Removal of Orbs was a success IMO
Removing the most visible EXPLOITABLE… item in Wv3 really cleared the air.
Anet would have been wise to rest the scores and started over… removing a major objective from the game has major effects.
We need a score reset to determine who is really serious about winning.

I agree, I am for sure enjoying the balanced feeling fights without being overpowered because I have 3 orbs or underpowered because I have none and my enemies have them..
Those kinds of buffs that aren’t universal should never be in pvp combat, how are you supposed to balance classes around a variable like that..

OK then I miss the feeling of going for the orb then defending it.

9 hours after reset and the scores are still split 3 ways between ioj, sos and sor. Usually by now it is clear which team is going to win, but it could go any way. (I think because orbs are gone).
Agreed, although I’d like to see the orbs back but not giving an advantage in fighting, makes them give them extra exp / karma / loot instead. And give the undermaned buff the extra hp / stats.
But as long as hackers can not be stopped efficiently, this is the lesser evil. I enjoy not seeing people fly across the map to insta cap an orb.

I’m glad they removed them. Not because I think they are a bad idea. I actually think some kind of Orb is a good idea. I like the idea because we can now see over the next handful of matches if the Orb’s really make a difference. Does the 3xOrb Buff have that large an impact that matches are shutdown by sunday.
Anet sounds like they will bring back some form of Orb later, but for now i’m glad they are good. Though i get the feeling they are being removed because of hackers more than the buff.
I think it’s still to early to tell the results. By Sunday we should know for sure the result of the Orb buff effects.

Just pretend your least upgraded keeps in borderlands, and SMC have the orb. It’s probably where the enemy is likely to hit.

The main thing is removing the exploit that gave an advantage to 1 server over the others.
This is a huge improvement, let the results speak for themselves now.
I absolutely love that the orbs as they were have been removed. They were a mistake. It was obvious from the start of this game and many have said so. If and when they return it should be with some bonus or effect which does not affect the outcome of the game one way or the other – no stat bonuses.
Personally I would like to see the buff directly applied to the keeps and camps. Offer the Orbs another benefit than buffs.
The idea would be a exponential scaled buff.
1 Camp or Keep(here on in as C/K) +1% to X stats
2 C/K +2%
4 C/K +4%
8 C/K +6%
16 C/K +8%
owning the entire map only offers a small buff. Once a camp is taken it cuts into the buff. Also keeps could offer other bonuses as some thoughts
Green Briar +2% move speed
BlueBriar(?) +2 supply capacity
Garrison +2% damage
……
It is quite obvious that orb bonuses were a mistake and bad for gameplay. I’m quite enjoying it now.
my guild never had an issue fighting and winning battles out manned against servers with more orbs than us or all 3 orbs.
it’s sad a layer of strategy has been removed, as has an added degree of glory when defeating orb buffed opponents.
hopefully they find a way to re add the layer of strategy in a meaningful way soon. and don’t continue to remove things.

I don’t believe any of that, seeing as your guild is on Tier 7 server.
You also speak about glory killing enemies who have 3 orbs, when T7 is probably full of PvE PuGs who are casually playing WvW with non lvl80 chars. How glorious you are. If you want competitive WvW move to WvW servers where you will see just how much of a difference 3 orbs make. It’s 15% hp and 600 stat points. It does not make someone invincible but it’s a huge difference.

the bottom 2 brackets have some of the best pvp/cloests score boards in teh game right now. main reason we are down so low is because of fair weather wvwers clogging queues during 24hr matches, server drama, and mostly just whining about orbs.
my guild has taken n battles in matches against servers that are much higher ranked now and done quite well…
nevermind that in mid to high brackets it’s all server hopping coat tail riders who want to be carried to score board wins rather than engage in epic theatre level pvp. quite frankly i’d be embarassed not to be in the bottom 2 brackets, right now, not the other way around.
