Hi,

I play on Yak’s Bend and most of the time our population is insufficient to trigger ques. This allows non WvW players to get into EB with great ease. People that don’t care about wvw or the performance of their server. These people only come to farm Season 1 achievements. Now, this in itself is not a bad thing. Indeed, most Season 1 achievements promote helpful behaviour like capturing objectives and killing players.

The repair achievement, however, is a curse. I’m sure that winning servers don’t get impacted by it alot, but we are currently in second place with limited access to supply and our Overlook is constantly getting trebbed from Stonemist Castle. OL has been sitting at 0-70 supply for hours due to the fact that achievement farmers keep wasting its supply on repairing walls that are actively being trebbed. This is greatly hurting our efforts to siege up and hold OL and its surrounding towers.

The repair daily was bad enough in my opinion, but this one is significantly worse. You hardly felt it when the ocassional casual would waste 25 supply on a wall, but 500 supply per person? kitten , that’s harsh.

IF there is a season 2, the emphasis on killing players needs to be higher as well. lol 400 players in 7 weeks? I got that one hour on IoJ, of all servers.

There are THREE achievements for jumping puzzles. But there is not a single achievement for defending anything.

There are achievements that motivate people to waste supply on pointles repairs, or hog siege with no mastery slowing down the whole zerg.
But there is no achievement for upgrading a tower or a keep, something that is universally a good thing and doesnt detract from anything.

I say let these PvE’ers spend there PvE gold to upgrade keeps and towers. And rather then do silly jumping puzzles that contribute NOTHING and only take up space, let them escort dolyaks.

But my guess is, the reward from Season 1 will be a big disapointment as all WvW rewards are. And this will come as a shock to the pure PvE players who expect atleast 2 rares for every 10min spend autoattacking, and they will come to the conclusion its not worth the trouble and we see a lot less PvE’ers in season 2 as a result.

The repair achievement is detrimental in most cases. People new to wvw don’t understand the supply chain, so I don’t blame them.. but sometimes you explain it and get, “why would I run to the supply camp when I can get supply right here?” Resulting in keeps and towers unable to receive upgrades. I like seeing more people in wvw, but please stop rewarding them for bad behavior.

I acknowledge that in my original post, and I think it is a good thing that more people are getting into wvw. It is just this particular achievement that promotes very harmful behaviour (and a a lot of it with a requirement of 500 supply spent on repairs).

Come to think of it, the Demolition Expert achievement is also terrible. People purposefully run ahead to drop their regular rams before the commander can drop his superior rams. Inattentive players then waste their supply on paper siege. Also, they deny siege to people who actually have points invested in ram and catapult mastery.

This slows down groups greatly, giving defending forces additional response time, and is harmful to all servers.

i saw so many ppl wasting supplies on trebbed walls and when you ask them to stop and help build sieg they tell you " but i gotta get my archiv" etc.

wvw is getting griefed by pve’ers and they have all right for it too, sadly

at thies point i honestly just want to go and grief teq runs

achievements should be focused on things that need to be done “regardless”. like for example, killing people. or taking shiet.

but upgrades, repairs, etc these are often not done ASAP and not all of them needed at all times for various reasons. people new to WvW should learn these thigns as well and the achievements focused on these (repair in the case of s1) teach them otherwise.

I agree pretty much wholeheartedly with this. Definitely great that more players are participating in WvW, but a few of these achievements are downright detrimental and, simply put, teach bad habits.

I’ve always thought it would be great to have a tutorial instance new players are launched into upon their first time joining a WvW map, similar to the Heart of the Mists tutorial instance. I think that would go a long way toward getting new players up to speed on the mechanics of the supply chain, defense/offense, placing siege, etc. Maybe we’ll see something like that with the new Edge map in the near future.

I think the problem with this is that are player concerns (chains), that players make up as the game goes along and when someone doesn’t follow the norm of those chains, they get mad and say “This is the way it HAS to be done”. Yes it sucks about losing lots of supply but I have never seen Anet or any official say you can only repair when there is not a treb or only use supply camp supply, but I feel your pain and hopefully more players understand there are smarter ways of using supply either building or repairing.

Technically speaking there is a tutorial expert at the start of every BL that explains the stuff. But most people wont stop to read what he has to say.

I would agree, a tutorial zone would be a great idea. It obviously cant be too detailed, as some tactics are not necessarily universal truths.

But ya, explaining the idea’s behind them could be a great boon.
For instance camps. “Camps prove supply to the invaders who control them. As well, if a nearby tower or keep is owned by the same faction they will send out dolyaks. Dolyaks upon reaching their destination provide supply to these fortifications. Defend your supply camps to help your team. Take enemy supply camps to hurt the enemy supply lines. Be cautious though, a lone wolf may have trouble taking these by themselves. A friendly ally might be able to help.”

But as for people repairing a trebbed wall, I dont think they can tell people to do that. As that is not a universal truth, and more of a tactic. A smart one, but a tactic all the same.

The best thing they could do about people repairing trebbed walls, is not to have repairing as part of the acheivement for season 2.

I’d rather they not have acheives for season 2, but would be nice if they could handle them a bit better.

Saying what has been said a thousand times before. Achievements for jumping puzzles, but none for defending. Acheivements for taking camps, sentries and merc camps, and destroying walls and gates, while helpful, don’t do as much for your team as defending an upgraded supply camp, escorting yaks, and repelling enemies from keeps and towers.

Maybe make the upgrade achievement specific would help? “Start # of structural upgrades.” At least if you make it specific to structural upgrades you have a 50% chance of people starting the needed upgrade.

Not really, both are just checks to see if you showed up. Killing hundreds of guards and players should be automatic. What the actual number is isn’t important.

I like the achievements. It caters to my AP hunting self (Currently at 11k).

I just got the repair achievement last night. Granted I was actively going after the repair achievement. Normally I leave doors and walls unrepaired because it is more fun to kill people. It is quite doable even if you don’t normally defend.

Here’s a strategy. Go to the enemy borderland. Find a keep with at least 500 supply. Build 1-3 golems and cap the keep. Go cap the nearby camps or a tower while you wait for crossed swords on your newly acquired keep. Let them ram down the outer gate and part of the inner gate. Drive them off and get most of your repair achievement done.

If you WvW on a regular basis, most of the achievements will be accomplished without any extra effort. I didn’t get my Advanced Mists Invasion Defender in an hour like someone else earlier in the thread but I did get it within a week.

Would you get credit for a failure? You have to rely on a group of (probably unorganized) individuals to assist in repelling an enemy attack. I also dislike this because defense is not fun.

As for upgrading, there is only so many upgrades possible. Having everyone compete for an upgrade would be silly. If your server is overwhelming the other two servers there would be nothing to upgrade after reset night.

While I hear your sentiment, wall repair is the ONLY defensive achievement currently. To me there are others WAAAY more difficult, like wall/door dmg. On our server if you aren’t all the way up on Ram Skills they won’t let you on a ram, and the way we take keeps they don’t want you pounding on a door less swords go up, nor do you want to as the Blob will soon show.

The amount of Sentry Areas taken is ridiculous, I won’t sniff that either. Oh and Dolyak kills is another unobtainable. If your anywhere in the middle of a zerg to the back, you may SEE the dolyak but you won’t tag it before its dead.

Less you think I jest, I’m 11 or 12 of 15 with a few more on the cusp of completion, will be done by the end of the week, I’ve WvW’d a lot. Yet I only have like 50 dolyak’s killed and maybe 60 sentry points? What maybe 2 walls down?!?! Yet keep and tower takes were the first two achievements I finished.

I am not a fan of the repair achievement but getting supply is relatively easy by going to a camp or killing a yak. Seven weeks is a long time to drop that supply. I finished mine in the first week fighting YB without taking tower/keep supply.

Go roaming? I got the yak, sentry and camp achievements in the first week. Do you mainly zerg? I had a hard time getting a hit in on a yak while zerging (I was on JQ for while) and the zerg never stopped at a sentry point.

You don’t need all those achievements though. They’re just meant to appeal to the people who like small group fights.

JQ has an easy matchup this week. Buy some siege and throw it down and bump whoever it is off the ram/cata. It’s not like it matters if you take an extra 30 seconds to knock down the door.

It shouldn’t but the commanders pitch a fit if you aren’t a Ram Master on the door, and while yes, JQ has had an easy run, on the maps you can actually get on to play very few are competitive, with several completely all points owned by JQ, kinda hard to take camps when you own the map in its completeness while you sit in an hours long EB que. Or you have pushed a team into a corner where they basically have their map blob running in just one section and taking anything in a small group isn’t possible.

Like I said, I’ve completed 11/15 and don’t see a problem with completing my 15, but these that I mentioned have been particularly painful to come by.

Edit: To give you an idea, I just logged in and checked, on the 3 non que maps I can log in on there is a total of 5 camps that I can take spread out on 3 maps.

No to any kind of defensive achievements.

You think repair is bad (and wth, it’s been 3 weeks and your PvErs still don’t have the achievement ?!) but it will be nothing compared to every other suggestion of defensive achievements.

-What’s that ? No supplies in the the tower and someone launched the fortify upgrade (doesn’t even need an achievement for people to do that)
-Dozens of people escorting a yak
-People clamming stuff when they don’t have any active buffs (which already happens way too much)

As for the ram master debate : I’m pretty sure they don’t mean level 5. Level 3 is enough and they can’t even see if you are level 5 or not aside from standing right next to you and not seeing the buff, which would mean that the other rammer (because it’s rare that only one ram is down) also isn’t level 5.

IMO Anet made a lot of bad game choices lately as far as WvW. They’ve never shown the slightest inclination to back-track on similar changes so live with it or leave.

I agree with it being a nightmare, but for other reasons; I had t run back from keep to SM with 10 supplies at a time in on eday to get that achievement.

Though I understand that it hurts the server, Im also not going to hold back on it given that the options to complete the meta achievemnts were all as equally BORING.

I would’ve been fine with getting a “daily WvW” which would count towards it, and make it so that the meta was a total of 25 total “steps”

I go to WvW fairly often now (thanks to the Meta luring me into WvW and rediscovering the fun of WvW, which tbh after getting rolled so many times I simply gave up on it)

Though I would recommend you to ot bash the PvE players too much, after all, you are only hurting yourself. Like them, Im also a PvE player which had little to no interest in WvW. If WvW players start bashing me for not knowing what to do, instead of kindly explaining the reasoning, I will assume WvW is not for me and leave the WvW again (like many people have already). So bear with it for now, after all, you are now getting PvE players who had a taste of WvW and might be giving it a try!

As for the rewards, I dont expect anything higher than 2 blues, perhaps even greens, a couple of champion bags, 20 dragonite/empyrial and maybe 100 badges, but nonetheless, I want my rewards because Im a completer; I complete stuff.

There were a couple I didnt do either; Camps because the LS sure is harsh, even my completely geared lvl 80s have a hard time killing those HP bags veterans there, which are too many as well.

SM is 4/5; losing weeks never have it, winning weeks, never have it.

Sentry…….. too much , did dolyaks and was painful.

The achievements weren’t bad, but they do need to diversify their gatherings a bit. And all of them were attacking, there was literally no reason to defend anything.

“Hey someone attacking SM, HELP!” “eh sorry need two more of those…”

Have yak killing escorting and killing attackers attacking the yaks or something. I just wish they though of the numbers before hand, 225 yaks with like a 5 min res time is zzzzz

I would’ve been fine with getting a “daily WvW” which would count towards it, and make it so that the meta was a total of 25 total “steps”

The achievements were chosen terribly.

There are THREE achievements for jumping puzzles. But there is not a single achievement for defending anything.

There are achievements that motivate people to waste supply on pointles repairs, or hog siege with no mastery slowing down the whole zerg.
But there is no achievement for upgrading a tower or a keep, something that is universally a good thing and doesnt detract from anything.

I say let these PvE’ers spend there PvE gold to upgrade keeps and towers. And rather then do silly jumping puzzles that contribute NOTHING and only take up space, let them escort dolyaks.

I agree with this part, although I wish there were no achievements for the season whatsoever. They’re the same as the Living Story: meaningless, grindy, and only intended to get players to switch game modes because the content doesn’t speak for itself.

…and we see a lot less PvE’ers in season 2 as a result.

I’m hoping there is no Season 2. Enough with the random matchmaking and get back to the solid tier match-ups that were actually fun.

I got all my achievements over the course of 4 weeks with a mixture of zerging (demolition – you just have to auto attack a door, no need for a ram, player kills, keep/tower/smc/camp flips, repairs after defending a keep/tower) and roaming (dolyaks, sentries, ruins). It’s pretty easy to get through natural progression and I disagree it’s boring. You’re not supposed to get them in a day or two. It’s meant to be over a period of 7 weeks.
