I agree, however this is what I have been doing.

If I run a teal set of armor, sometimes even green sets, (pre level 80 green sets) I could sell my armor to a merchant and rebuy my armor on the black lion and spend about a silver at the most repairing.

However now it costs me around 6 silver, and that is because I ahve to rebuy the shards on that armor.

My gold set of 80 armor that I have for fighting not farming, costs me like 30 silver to fix, and I don’t plan on fixing that armor again.

They should have separated the breaks from pve and pvp, and pvp breaks should be significantly cheaper.

Maybe if people could learn to economy this wouldn’t be a problem. Everyone kept prices high in rift, At first I thought this was a terrible idea. In reality each drop you get means a lot more cash when everyone is throwing around huge sums of cash for everything because everything is expensive every drop you get costs more, therefore you make money so much faster. It means about the same since everything is higher priced, however it really changes what you can buy from the game ie repairs etc.

People have completely destroyed this games economy partially due to greed when you compare it to a lot of things that you have to buy from the game itself, in contrast to what you make for services/drops.

There’s two ways to look at this the economy is good because everything is cheap, or the economy is terrible because everything being cheap means the prices for repairs/siege/etc is ridiculously high when you compare it to how much you get for selling stuff.

I must’ve missed the sign that said it was a fire sale.

I think the problem is that armor getting to fast damaged they should reduce or increase the durabilty in wvwvw 1 dead is already making your armor pretty badly damaged which i think is wrong

I agree also, there are already gold sinks in the game, at first I didnt like the price for up grading character and account stuff, but now I think its a good idea, gives soem thing to spend that gold on.
But in wvw it starts to realy feel like to much of a chore, I have to stop fighting and try to make some silver to make shure I’m not going to be loosing money by partaking in wvw.
One thing I’v noticed and iritates me is not geting drops, either from mobs, and especialy form player or faction npc’s. You should always get some thing in those cases and up drops from mobs.
Honestly though I dont think that pvp should be one of the gold sinks, removing loot all together and the repair damage mechanic might be a good thiing to do, we go there to fight and have fun. Reward us in other ways for the combat.

Don’t die. Range as much as you can and let the guardians and other melee classes die. If you take damage run away. That way I made a bit of money while running with the zerg and getting gold medal in events.

Of course the guardians and other melee classes can just start another class too if they want. No problem with the repair cost. It is working as intended and making you play the game more efficient instead of dying thousand times.

And pro tip: Buy gems with real money and trade them for ingame gold. That way Arena.Net will make more money. I think they will like it. Maybe even higher repair costs? Why not? Or farm some stuff PvE.

I really like how the economy is integrated into each part of the game and hope wvw repair/loot stays the same.

Currently I profit quite a bit in wvw as long as I stay strategic.

ANet nerfed the rewards from WvW so the repair costs should be nerfed too or removed altogether.

I have no issues making a profit in WvW, even with repair costs. Drops + money is enough to easily cover it and net me a hefty profit.

I make a pretty hefty profit as well in WvW. If you are having money issues, than it is a money problem on your end. Learn to handle your finances. Granted I usually only end up with about 4-5 silver at the end of day, but That is still TECHNICALLY a profit.

I can farm a gold or more easily in PVE, should I have to just to play a round of WvW? Those of you claiming profit in WvW, have you spent 12 hours upgrading a keep to full, merely running supply back and forth and escorting yaks. Doubt it! Do you play as a support class that get the minimum amount of loot? Do you have a full exotic set of gear at level 80? I played as a healing Ele, each death costs me around 10s and I would get about 2 silver in loot. Thats not counting siege and upgrades to keeps. No big deal I just spent 1-2 hours farming in Orr, but there are those that just wanna hop on and do some WvW.

Repairing costs in PVP is garbage, there are enough $ sinks in WvW. Do you have to repair in the 5v5 pvp?

I’ve never found repairing armor to be costly, sounds to me like you do not have a good source of income. It also pays to not die 5 times in 10 mins, you must practice more caution, escape tools. Btw I’m from Borlis pass and our server is heavily outnumbered, I still manage not to die often.

I think repair costs should be nerfed as well.

As they are, it rewards conservative play, and people running away from battle.

They also disadvantage melee classes who die a lot, when melee classes need all the encouragement they can get vs range.

Not sure on a personal level where the complaints are coming from. I repair several times a night. I still come out wayyy ahead in terms of coin. Even after buying probably 20 25 silver of siege a night. Last night, after repairs and siege spending, I was still up somewhere around 45 to 50 silver. Which is pretty typical in my experience.

There needs to be some penalty for dying. Repair costs seem to be it.

As someone who has deliberately run a WvW only character from 2-44, and counting, the repair bill is indeed too high. While it is true that if you’re getting some kills and completing events you turn a profit, but if you add in any of the things that help your team win other than straight kills, you are well into the negative. Want to have siege for that tower assault? Better think real hard about that, because otherwise you won’t be able to afford your trait book at 40. I often do suicidal actions like push into an enemy line to draw fire and remove the AoE wall of death, and I get severely punished for helping my team win a fight. Either lower the costs, remove damage entirely (running time back to the fight alone is a penalty), or perhaps change how many defeats kt takes to incur damage.

I agree that armor shouldn’t break in WvW. It’s a war people can’t just “not die” unless they’re running away really quickly (which means they’re not helping). If not removing armor breakage, then at least slow the rate it breaks in WvW, but not the actual repair cost (or people will just hop to wvw for their fixes).

We were told there would be no death penalties in this game, but they not only have death penalties, they have them in PVP. Death penalty PVP games suck, which is why most people don’t play them. The majority of people who play EVE, Pirates of the Burning Sea and other death penalty games hang out in the safe areas and don’t venture into PVP zones.

There are too many gold sinks in this game already and all they do is discourage people from participating in the game by punishing them when they do. The whole idea of punishing people for playing a game is idiotic.

I agree!. I found the pvp link when I was 38 and had a blast but had to stop because of death and needing the cash for my level 40 book. Make it free for people under 80 as we are undergeared, undertraited fodder anyways.

I wont go back in until I have the cash for my next book saved up with a little to spare for reparing

Armor should have no cost to repair in pvp. Many other games do this and I find them far more enjoyable than one you have to pay for repairs. That or make repairs cost very low specifically for pvp. To those saying that you should die as much or purposely play in a zerg, how does your logic produce good pvp? It doesn’t, it produce stale lame ranged zerg vs zerg fights that sometimes turn into staring contests shooting back and forth a little bit. If you enjoy that then so be it, but to me and a chunk of the player base it isn’t enjoyable. I do like zerg vs zerg fights when they do not transpire as I stated above.

It also does not encourage melee combat. Some people prefer melee. To force people to play ranged serves no positive purpose. Playing aggressive is not a bad thing. Some people prefer that play style. We need them to get kills, to get killed, and to start action. Several aggressive players can cause many epic battles while people try to kill each other. They end up getting the other side to react to them causing them to attack and/or pursue thus the other side reacts in a turn and boom you’ve got a battle on your hands. That ladies and gentlemen is what wvw should be about. You go out there to pvp that means players fighting and killing. Not players starring each other down doing a bit of damage here and there.

Another thing someone dying a lot in pvp does not make them stupid. Maybe they are new, aren’t that good, just playing for fun(imagine that) or they are aggressive. We were all new at one point and weren’t always good. Plenty of people play for fun. It is a game after all. Yet some like to play aggressively and I probably fall into that category on occasion. In several other mmo’s I could care less if I die a lot and played aggressively to get stuff started. It was more fun, and I usually play a melee class. If you want to laugh at me for dying a lot go ahead I’m enjoying myself playing the game my way.

The problem is that this game tends to punish you for dying in pvp, which IMO isn’t right. If that’s the model ANet wants to support than so be it. However, I feel players would get much more enjoyment out of not being penalized for dying or not as severly. This would cause other players to go back to some of their play styles that they may have otherwise be forced out of, and would give us more of those players that cause fights to start, causing more fun. Aren’t video games about fun. Isn’t that what we all should be after? If you have fun with the current system and like to stay back all power to you. Please respect others differing opinion of what is fun to them.

This is not intended to say certain players play a game the right or wrong way. It is intended to get across the point that everyone plays differently. Not addressing how other people feel about the system does not help solve the problem. Developers need to do one of the things that they should be best at. That means take in the feedback listen to what others have to say and see why a change is needed without doing the extreme.

i think you guys are missing the bigger picture here.
you get much better loot drops in wvw. take away the dieing repair cost and every PVE’er and there mom will come there to farm. even bots will show up and expect a much longer que to get into WvW. the repair cost is the risk and what keeps pve farmers away.

If it costs 30s you’re probably full exotics and you waited until 1 or more pieces are completely broken. In that time you should easily have been able to get a few kills and take a few objectives. Personally I repair every time I respawn and it’s rarely more than 2-3s. And I usually make at least 5x that before I have to respawn (if there are decent enemies around, if not I can go an entire evening without dying).

I haven t tried that but I would not understand why this would work at all. If you can t swap weapons while in combat then how come you should be able to disrobe in less than a second?

Furthermore this does not address the issue but merely is a workaround that is not convenient.

not that hard… press H, then click at that town dress icon…. easy… of course do it when you know you’re downed and won’t survive…

At level 80, I earn about 20s an hour from drops and DE awards. If I die 5 times in that hour in full exotic gear, I have to pay about 7s in repair. Mastercraft and rares cost far less to repair.

Honestly, with this attitude, you probably SHOULD stay out of WvW. Queues are often a problem for many servers, and lots of people are dedicated to WvW beyond just earning a little xp and karma. By being in WvW, you’re taking up a slot that a hardcore PvPer could fill. And it’s much faster to level in PvE, anyway. Plus, WvW is a gold sink, and it sounds like you’re worried about gold if you’re fretting over repair costs. Go make some money in the PvE areas.

I find that money gain in WvW is an issue if I decide to make any upgrades or buy siege for my server to use. There are only a handful of dedicated players and commanders altruistic enough to shell out this money to advance their server, and they are going broke frequently.

Personally, I save up badges in hopes that I will one day reach that sum of 3000 to buy a set of gear for ONE character that will make him optimal in WvW. Since release, I have earned almost 200 badges across all characters. I don’t see how buying siege with badges can be expected of players if they hope to ever earn the exotic badge gear.

Unless you are on the losing team or not in a giant zerg where capturing points will cost you some deaths and repair costs. and even going arounded gathering will get you ganked because your entire map is taken over.

I dont even have an incentive to mindlessly suicide fight ppl for fun since I have to pay for dying.
