It seems very odd there have not been any moderator posts in the past few days/week to touch on some more details of the WvW update. I would figure if Anet wanted to have a truly successful WvW “makeover” they would have to keep open communication with the community that plays WvW 24/7.

So this is that opportunity since most players do NOT use GW2 twitter or if there are any other social sites that Anet prefers to use instead of their own official domain.

(No quoting/posting updates/status from a month ago, that would just make you look silly to say the least)

What baseline can we expect, this is a very simple question that should be able to receive a really simple or even detailed response that might be similar to a table of contents. Granted Anet will say “We cannot tell you what we will do because even we do not know until the last minute”. Which is true somewhat, but mostly that is used to make it seem like they have no idea what CORE elements of WvW will be addressed.

For example: (Anet, you can list with bullets what main issues you would like to address

  • Culling
  • WvW reward
  • Badges of honor reward
  • Dynamic event credit reward
  • Dolyak guard npcs not efficient/effective
  • Siege blueprints being soulbound but still able to transfer between characters (seems like 2 people in the same department disagreed on this solution which is why we can trade the blueprints by dropping them but yet they are “soulbound”)
  • Bigger or new map(s)
  • Rework npcs such as Grub/Champion Tree/Mosquito event/Quaggan/Temple
  • The water in the Borderlands that every single person hates
  • Is the “glitch” where the waypoint is available for 1-3 seconds after Repel Enemies event going to be “resolved” with this patch or is that still a method we can use to reinforce falling Keeps
  • Is Outmanned buff going to receive an update? We all know how pointless that buff is and HAVE known since release of this game 5months+ ago
  • Will Orbs come back? If not what are we doing to replace them? WvW has become even more stale since the removal
  • ADD THE OPTION IN REPORT FOR HACKING/EXPLOITING PLEASE
  • Resolve current queue issues that have recently been reported but have not been addressed recently
  • Current WvW titles are far out of the limit of many if not everyone who plays GW2, all kittentalk aside nobody can rack up one of those titles in 6 months – 1 year unless 24/7 focused on that single title
  • Guild claiming currently has no purpose unless to activate guild buffs when under attack, why can we not see who claimed the location and or have additional options upon claiming a Keep/Tower/Camp
  • Additional rewarded loot for killing enemy commanders (and/or higher loot table)
  • Invulnerable zones/anti camping zones that reach into supply camps in the Borderlands (These are not a big issue by any means, but lots of people are ….. and believe this is hacking/exploiting and I’m sure that’s racking up the bug reports/paperwork, would be efficient to remove so that frees up time for whomever has to read all those support tickets)
  • Address siege locations that “cannot be countered”, remove or maybe even add more
  • More high ground/cliffs everywhere, Borderlands and Eternal
  • Incentives for WvW both for guilds and for players (The virtual score that may or may not get reset has no bearing on if my guild is in WvW, rather if we feel like doing pvp together we go into WvW, which is always . But we are not an entire server and at many times servers lose even when there is enough active population, but not enough actually in WvW due to score and/or seeing a map 100% another color or the fact that there have been literally no incentives to WvW (other than PvE world bonus maybe? I personally don’t believe anyone has seriously considered those that valuable enough for PvE players to get into WvW.

Without incentives this has created a catch 22 where if a server loses, morale drops, participation drops, server’s ranking drops, server drops whole tiers, people transfer, dead server until massive alliance comes and makes active again. Granted with paid transfers, not every situation will immediately result in transfer, but with weeks of terrible participation in WvW combined with constantly losing, players will either leave Guild Wars 2 (which many have) or they will just leave WvW (which far too many have)

(Again please no quoting from 1 month ago or even 2 weeks ago; issues like culling and queue and maybe a few others require constant update as those ARE game breaking, but this thread is not to agree/disagree on these topics as much as it is to help Anet create their own “table of contents” of what they KNOW will be updated)

be happy that culling affects both sides. could be worse where only 1 side was invisable.

rewards will come in time be patient.

The dynamic event reward is fine considering that they occur more often then reg pve events.

The dolyak guards are fine. supplies are suppose to be a weakpoint of the forts, otherwise itd be a nonstop siege/repairfest. guards harass people trying to solo yakkityyaks making it somewhat more complicated. want extra protection on supplies, escort them.

blueprint swapping is a bug.

sigh bigger maps but you complain about culling…. not even gonna touch

dont understand the rework npc one.

dont like the water, stay outof it.

bug indeed most likely in the works to being fixed.

agree on the outman buffs… lol that developer was asleep while deciding what buffs it would give.

The titles are fine. we dont need a system that rewards you for every minicle action that we do " look left, congrats !!!! you now recieved the left-dominate title!!" You only care about it becuase its not easy to get.

There are so many things wrong about that post it’s hard to know where to start. First of all, the OP asked for actual updates on the issues … not BS like “they probably are working on it.” Saying that culling is OK because it affects everyone is simply inane, larger maps would NOT make culling worse (sigh), and ANet has already already stated that blueprint swapping is NOT a bug.

The issues listed by the OP are a compilation of those raised by hundreds of user threads in the six months since launch, and Anet has done an absolutely horrible job of acknowledging/explaining them or proposing fixes that they actually follow through on. ANet doesn’t simply deflect … they ignore. Rift had terrible open world PvP (which is why I left it), but at least their devs were candid and communicative (which is why I stayed with it as long as I did.) The only people responsive here at ANet are the forum moderators.

As with any problem always start from the top HEY oohhhh

9:00 john arrived to work.
9:45 after some friendly chit chat with co-workers john sat in on the coding department meeting to discuss future changes.
11:00 john had lunch break ( turkey club from subway, it was delicious)
1200 john settled in his cubicle and begin going through the hundreds of lines of code looking for that one piece that was conflicting or not as quite efficient as it could be.

note this does not take 30 mins, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours Etc.

6:00 john left to go home to see his family.

there now your updated.

There are several dozen of threads on culling alone, and at least a couple of dozen more on the problem of erratic queues. Learn to count. In six months time ANet has offered exactly one informative post on culling and zero informative posts on queues … with zero progress on either to date. Anybody who has had the slightest responsibility running a business will tell you that the surest way to lose customers is to ignore them, and the businesses with the strongest customer loyalty are the ones who don’t.

This is the best list I’ve read in a while. Not 100% on everything mentioned, but it is a great start and definitely things that need to be addressed.

Please communicate with us, ANet. When you leave us in the dark because our updates aren’t coming, it just adds to the fear and speculation that we are being ignored and pushed aside.

There’s a problem with the doylak guards? I always thought that capping doylaks was obviously an event designed to allow solo players who maybe aren’t confident enough to try soloing a camp and don’t want to be limited to sentinels, an opportunity to contribute and generally just get involved (hence the relative ease with which they can be dispatched). I’d rather that doylaks were easy prey even with the additional guards, than having new less experienced players feeling like they have to assimilate into the zerg if they are to contribute. Doylak guards do prevent doylak deaths due to PvE mobs, so they do have a useful function.

Why are there stickied bug compilation threads in profession forums but WvW bugs are instead supposed to be put in Game Bugs forum. This can also be expanded to include bugged skills in WvW or skills that are too OP or worthless in WvW.

Granted with paid transfers, not every situation will immediately result in transfer, but with weeks of terrible participation in WvW combined with constantly losing, players will either leave Guild Wars 2 (which many have) or they will just leave WvW (which far too many have)

(Again please no quoting from 1 month ago or even 2 weeks ago; issues like culling and queue and maybe a few others require constant update as those ARE game breaking, but this thread is not to agree/disagree on these topics as much as it is to help Anet create their own “table of contents” of what they KNOW will be updated)

yeah, i can confirm that.

Lot s of players, even whole guilds, are loosing interest in www due to the lack of attention Anet has shown. Lot of players are actually quitting the game.

As i already wrote in a lot of other topics if Anet want to epic fail with Gw2 they surely going the right way.

Worst thing ever is we have to wait 1 and half more month to see something for the WWW comunity. Well, i really hope this game will not loose half of our players for that time.

I can t belive they think the TP Preview will keep ppl playing this game… how sad.

chillax mien. these things take time. Be happy with the fact thats it pretty deceant considering its free to play as well as they are coming from private instances.

be happy that culling affects both sides. could be worse where only 1 side was invisable.

rewards will come in time be patient.

The dynamic event reward is fine considering that they occur more often then reg pve events.

The dolyak guards are fine. supplies are suppose to be a weakpoint of the forts, otherwise itd be a nonstop siege/repairfest. guards harass people trying to solo yakkityyaks making it somewhat more complicated. want extra protection on supplies, escort them.

blueprint swapping is a bug.

sigh bigger maps but you complain about culling…. not even gonna touch

These kind of posts ALWAYS give you a crystal clear picture of who has true care bear mentality and who wants to experience a more skilled base pvp system.

Viper, cheers for taking the time to put this list (which has been in 4000 threads in past 6 months) of serious (population changing) flaws together for Anet to hopefully see.

Our guild laughs in vent every night when we come to the conclusion of “honestly if they just fixed culling at this point we’d be extactic”. There are so many other important issues as you pointed out that need fixing as well. Anet makes sure we see all the Mosquitos, scales, drakes, snowflakes, Krait, rabbits, shimmering water, more snowflakes, dolyak mobs, ect ect ect…. More Mosquitos. How about let us see (since we run a 5 man) the 20+ people running towards us so we can bail and survive rather than watch our healthy drop 5x the normal fights pace while seeing 4 reds and 22 Mosquitos and drakes?

Regardless of the at least 10 serious issues needing fixed, anyone that tries to defend Anet is just inexperienced, ignorant, and hasn’t played enough games to know the difference. It’s comical when people say the blatant problems like map size and being able to treb to treb to treb because tower distances are so close are perfectly fine. OPEN YOUR EYES.

I think it would really help if Anet would give us a heads up on the plans for the March PvP/WvW update. Right now everyone is in the dark and have no idea what Anet have in mind. And given their track record (WvW rating reset, dungeon way points, etc) a lot of us are worried about the huge differences, between what the players “want” and what the devs “think” are great ideas.

Communications are the key. The devs should give the players a head up on their ideas, and get the players approval/support/opinion, before they start spending actual man-hours on coding anything.

For example, they said that they are

“Exploring ways to help get more people playing WvW, as well as dealing with queue issues that come with those inherent issues of player population and demand.”

Well cool that sounds great in a general sense. But what actual ideas are being considered and what is being implemented? Are they actually good ideas? We players should be informed of their plans, give our opinions, before Anet spent man-hours on these ideas.

Do not waste man-hours on some idea, and then later found out that the players hate that idea, but that idea end up implementing anyways because of the man-hours already spent. Throwing good man-hour after bad man-hour will only disappoint the players.

If you followed the development threads in the years before release, you would know that Arenanet basically gives you large amounts of information at one time followed by long droughts with no information at all. Essentially feast or famine style communications. I ve never understood why they dont have a PTR for their changes but… oh well.

Guild Commander Tags – These are tags only guild members can see. Make them show as a gold icon on the map.

Camp upgrades – Allow for more, better upgrades for smaller guilds to defend camps, those guilds who can’t really afford to upgrade towers/keeps. Something like putting up easy to break walls, set up traps, or any number of things.

Character travel time – I thought you had the right idea giving the Ranger, Necro, and Elementalist a full time 25% run speed, even though I didn’t think the Elementalist needed it. But you forgot the two slowest classes in the game, the Guardian, and the Mesmer. Please consider adding a more reliable movement speed for these two classes.

Orbs – These should be keep specific items that are captured, and moved to a keep to strengthen those who fight “inside the keeps”.

Guild buffs placed on claimed keeps – These should be zone wide for the guild only.

World vs world should be a FOUR SERVER MATCH UP.

Reward system: Defense reward system kind of sucks because you constantly see the timer tick to zero, while the enemy is still beating on the gate, and you do not get rewarded. This is the best place to reward PUGs, or give PvE players a reason to leave PvE, and defend keeps/towers thier server owns. To encourage more participation in a defense, a person should be rewarded every single time the defense timer ticks to “zero”, even if the enemy is still beating on the wall/gates.

UI Changes: I think the most important UI change should be putting a place where we store our consumables so we don’t have to open our bags to use them. Better yet, if you didn’t want to apply this UI change, allow for us to apply an “auto consume” feature on our foods so that once the duration has run its course, our toons automatically use the consumable again. We had the auto consume feature in Everquest II, and it worked extremely well.

Supplies, more importantly supply runs: The 15 supply buff from guilds should be a 20 supply buff “AT” supply camps, and players should be allowed to assist keep/tower workers in thier upgrades, allowing them to run to a supply camp, pick up supplies, and go click on the “structure” being upgraded inside the keep/tower. That alone would solve a lot of problems for guilds trying to do upgrades.

Road Marker “Banners”: These should emit a pulsing buff (600 radius) for 10 seconds of swiftness, instead of the need to click on them for a buff for 20 seconds of swiftness. This would require more to be used, and allow for a better synergy, with use. Also there is a major bug with these that makes them disappear too early.

A major class change I’d like to see;

Warrior I’m seeing fewer, and fewer banners in WvW, probably because they’re tedious. To assist Warriors out, I thik once they pick up a banner, it should put the banner on thier back, or the back of the person carrying the banner. Allowing for them to carry the banner, and utilize their weapon skill set. This is a UI change, basically making “F8” the banners special buff, like Banner of Disc’s “Fury Buff”, and making “F9” the Banners Swiftness buff. This would allow for one Warrior to provide multiple banners to be moved by multiple people in a large scale fight, without losing the weapons they’ve traited for. It would also be cool if the banners represented the guild the Warrior belongs to.
