lets say it like this nerf BL’s to bring them to the level of EB instead as retaliation is still very sstrong in eb and out of this world in the BL’s.
in a bunker support build a guardian with pvt gear can take down some of the fast hitting glass cannon classes without hitting them by useing there abiletys right(stacking retaliation and regen in the right way and time with the right use of virtues)

Its a joke really in the big picture. A month to fix this. Not to mention this new freeze crash bug put in from new patch with everyone screen freezing. still not fixed. Unable to place siege on towers last 2 nights. This stuff should be hotfixed asap not left for ages. But then what can we expect after AC is still gamebreaking and yet to be fixed.

We’ve identified the problem with retaliation and are getting a fix in so that it will function as intended on all the maps. When it is fixed it will be mentioned in the release notes for that build.

Well I was going to put a bit more effort into this post but that would be a waste of my time
Maybe if they started supporting WvW a little more I may actually put a bit more effort in but I wont hold my breath.

It hasn’t really been that long… The fact that they are willing to acknowledge it and try to fix it should be good enough for everyone. Retaliation isn’t even that bad.
SET YOUR EXPECTATIONS APPROPRIATELY.
This is not a game breaking bug. It’s annoying, yes, but the game still works fine overall.
Don’t expect a fix until next month’s big patch.
I’ll be happy to be wrong about this though, if they release it sooner.

Have you considered putting an ICD on retaliation?
At the moment fast-hitting and/or AoE attacks wreck their user in the face of Retaliation. Most noteably in WvW against a zerg. Due to the very nature of Guardians, just littering the field with Light-combo fields, Retal is a boon that is up a lot of the time on a lot of people in the same zerg. As a mere side-effect, not one of tactical choice.
As a result, trying to put Aoe on that zerg will return insane numbers back to the user. Ranger, for example, don’t uncommonly Down themselves when they use Volley. Engineers with Grenades splash upwards to 15 different targets at a time. Taking 4-5k damage back while deal minimal damage.
Flamethrowers make 10 rapid, but weak, hits against upto 3 targets. Returning as much as 30 instances of Retaliation in just 2 seconds.
When Retaliation easily hits 300+ dmg, i hope you too can see that is going to be a problem. AoE should deter groups of people from clumping up, and “motivate” its targets to move out of the AoE. But due to Retaliation its more beneficial to just eat that AoE and watch some poor sap on a wall kill himself.
So instead of trying to balance the damage Retaliation does between two extremely polar situations (1v1 vs 1vszerg), which imo i don’t think you can ever balance, adress the rate at which Retal procs.
Or another thing that I would prefer is to change Retaliation in a way, that it only returns a percentage of the damage dealt to the player. So a hard hitting attack will be more punished than low damange attacks. It can’t be that retal returns 3 times the damage that has been dealt…
I have never noticed how incredibly powerful retaliation was before.. With the 100% uptimes people have its actually rather ridiculous and much worse than confusion ever was imo.
Confusion was easily cleansed by yourself or people around you & -duration vs Retaliation which guardians have up 100% of time and then can buff everyone around them and not every class can strip a boon(no defense).

I give myself an extra butt-pat every time I defeat someone 1v1 in the BLs if they used Retaliation. Two extra butt-pats if it was a Guardian.
