Returning Player question on Class balance

Hi all,
I am thinking about returning to the game after quite a break (ESO & BDO). I use to solo roam a lot on my engineer we are talking a good 12 – 18mths ago. I have 7 x level 80’s and really enjoy condition builds. So my question to you all is how are things now? I was thinking of playing my Necro but thought I would ask for some feedback fist. I understand a lot has changed, how is balance? I am not buying the hot expansion yet until I dip my toe back in for a week or so to see if I may return.

Any help advice or tips greatly recieved.

Thanks

If you play conditions you’re in luck. That’s about the only thing usable for roaming now because the profession and stat balance is so pitiful.

Balance pretty okay i’d say. Contrary to what the above poster says there is quite a number of power builds you can play that also work very well. When i roam on my engi i pretty much never feel like it was some gross imbalance that killed me but rather me failing to dodge a key skill or missing an important interrupt in short my own fault. That being said condi mes still shts on everything in 1v1 but that has always been the case.
PS: balance being pretty okay considers the elite specs. Without them you will generally feel very underpowerd with a few exceptions.

Don’t roam on a necro… it gets kited to death and cannot escape anything. Vanilla mesmer and maybe warrior or ranger for roaming. Everything else really needs the elite spec to maximize escape from the large groups and remain highly effective for roaming. Otherwise you will start most 1vX fights with one foot already in the grave.

Now in zergs and skirmish, vanilla necro, ele, guardian, warrior, mesmer are all good. You can probably make some other classes “work” if you are highly skilled but as noted you will be at a disadvantage in most fights.
