Bought the game at release and played pve everyday and took a hiatus after downing Tequila about 3 weeks after he was released(just establishing went i left the game.)

I enjoy a game more when I’m a needed asset to my guild/party and potentially fill a role that not many people do. so instead of using my thief I would use one of my alts or just start making a new guy from scratch.

Classing I’m interested in.
Guardian: I lean towards a brusier/tanky build but not sure if guardians are still a dime a dozen in Wvw
Elementalist: From what I read they are not in the greatest of spots but the play style seems really addictive.
Necromancer: Always looked fun, would be willing to build one from level 1
Warrior: Same description as the guardian.

I searched and it seems most posts were before the all the updates so not sure how valid they are hence the new post.

Appreciate any feedback.

BTW: I would enjoy playing any of those classes so the play what you find most fun is invalid for this potential discussion.

Actually the classes you’ve named are all the top wanted classes in wvw at the moment, so it really does come down to play what you will find the most fun(melee or range? dps or healing?), or what your guild needs.

(Staff/Great sword Guardian) (2H Hammer/Sword warhorn Warrior) – Melee frontline that is always needed for their buffs and control/condition removals, especially since buffs drop on group first need one in every group, guardian spamming staff 1 will also end up filling your bags often.

Staff Elementalist – Water healing, valuable to any group in wvw especially zergs, also for taking enemy hard to reach siege off walls.

Staff Necro – High survivability, lots of aoe ground goodness with staff and wells, blinds with plague. (My favorite class)

Speak with your guild and see what they need.

Another derailing post. ^^
North Keep: One of the village residents will now flee if their home is destroyed.

Depends also on the time / server.
As pugs, at my times (offpeak/night), we often lack staff elementalists.
At other times, other classes are needed…

So :

I enjoy a game more when I’m a needed asset to my guild/party and potentially fill a role that not many people do

will depend on your server’s need at your playtimes…

To add to Xenesis comment :
Elems : Other than heal, useful for combos (fire/might – less used for static fields/speed nowadays with gardians’ staff speed stacking) and CC
Necros : also have debuffs – usually first thing put down in a fight.

Are you intending to roam around WvW with your guild/party in groups of 2-10, taking camps, sniping dolyaks and ninja-ing towers, or are you and your friends intending to take part in the larger actions of WvW, storming keeps and clashing with zergs of 30+ ?

I ask because this has a bearing on what to recommend.

If you want to roam, then all classes are perfectly good choices. If you want to fill a desirable “niche” that not many others play, I’d say decent roaming guardians are the hardest to find. Warriors are absolutely everywhere, Ele’s are pretty common, Necros are a bit rarer but still easy to find. But a proper roaming guardian, not just a pvt-staff who got cut off from the zerg, is not something you see every day.

If you want in on the larger action, again all three of the classes you listed are valid choices, but I’d say decent Necros are harder to find than decent Guards/Eles, so if you want to fill an empty niche then that’s the way to go.

Yup a lot more to those classes than what we’ve listed. If he’s looking to fill in spots for his guild it will come down to what his guild is running at the moment, havok, gvg, zerg size groups.

The builds and playstyle for all of those professions vary wildly between solo roaming, 2-5 man fights, 10-15 man fights, and 20+. It really, really comes down to what you plan to do a lot.

If I had one recommendation it’s to have two or more WvW characters so you can switch between things easily. Find what you like solo roaming with to relax, find what you like for small man stuff, find what you like for megazorgin.

Hit the nail on the head. Most of what you ask depends on what style of play you want to. Few classes excel in all styles of WvW play.
