Reviving - Aarrrghghh
I for the life of me cannot recall any feature in any MMO that has been such a constant source of grief and frustration to me as the revive mechanics in this game.
I have to wonder if this was ever play-tested in a real fashion or if it was only implemented in PvP because it worked in PvE.
I like to roam around solo most of the time, and when doing so I even like attacking smaller groups just to test my skill. Often I lose, but sometimes I down a player.
The frustrating thing is that all it takes is one of his buddies to F him for 2 seconds and he’s back on his feat, rendering my already uphill battle absolutely pointless. Even if I kill him again…as long as buddies near by he’s back on his feet faster than even an uninterrupted finisher can channel. Not that you get very many uninterrupted finishers.
Siege situations amplify this frustration because even if I kill a dozen players attacking all their buddies have to do is keep on rezzing and there’s no way they’ll ever fail.
HOW IS THIS ACCEPTABLE in a game that seemingly takes pride in its PvP? I cannot fathom in which world this would be considered viable. This feels like Rift PvP where everyone has a Battlerezz instantly available.
It seems like no matter how good or clever I fight I don’t have to tools to overcome someone who is simply resurrected by his buddies constantly. It’s not even like damage interrupts the process. On some profession I literally have no other choice but to stand by and watch another player rezz with kitten all I can do about it.
If there is ever going to be a feature that causes me to quit this game, this will be it.
It is by far the most frustrating, skill-undermining, group-safety net I have ever seen in an MMO.
Just imagine how LotR, Rift, WoW, Counterstrike, DotA, LoL or any such online game would play if people could rezz their allies constantly in a matter of seconds (faster than your standard execute and interrupted by damage).
The Stealth Rezzes are one the more moronic features of this game..Oh.. and Mobs Ressing every player around them that dies..

You can sometimes cascade until you have a whole group downed, then jus paint them with AoE. Of course this only works against people who don’t know what they’re doing and/or low-level characters. Coordinated groups often have a couple players with instant-res skills equipped.

How does attacking the reviver help if you don’t have an interrupt, stun or CC? Taking 20% off his HP isn’t going to help much when you’re fighting two people 3 seconds later.
And let’s not forget the downed-interrupt everyone and their mother has.

That just buys them more time to revive. And revives outheal my DPS by a long shot.

I just don’t like how they can revive faster than you can finish in a 1v2. The odds are already skewed, why skew it more?
It’s “fight to survive” not “lay there while someone revives you in 3 seconds”
It’s one of those things that I think reinforces the Zerg gameplay seen everywhere in the game. XvX never occurs in this game, it’s always something like a 3:2 ratio. Also, not really complaining about this, but one more thing to add to your point; I’ve gotten ‘lucky’ and ran into a group of 3 players with low hp, downed them all at the same time with 100blades, then summarily got pelted with downed abilities until I too was down. Fears, knockbacks, and the simple downed attack compounded by multiple people centered on the one guy left standing sucks.

it works well if you’re Glass Cannon and can do that…Condition Specs get kinda screwed by down state (It removes all conditions on the target instantly once they’re downed)

There’s your problem right there. These skills are important both for finishing and for preventing downed allies from being finished.

The more I play this game the less I like the downed state as well, at least for PvP, WvW it should be modified in some fashion or something done to balance it out better.
What class are you? You can win those fights once you get used to the mechanics. Just have to know when to keep applying pressure, know when to stomp, and know that sometimes the revive will occur but you can punish it hard if you have the right tools, so even if the 1v2+ continues, you will have the advantage.
Honestly when that happens if am on my ranger what i do is i switch pets really quick to give myself haste and stomp them in half a second

Learning how to stomp in an unfair fight is a skill you need to attain. And yes, sometimes its impossible to stomp someone. If they removed down state and just doubled everyones HP, you wouldnt have downed anyone to begin with.
