If there is one thing that ruins a lot of WvW combat for me then it must be the abundance and relative ease of resurrections in combat.
GW2 is the only large scale PvP game where two large zergs can go at each other for minutes without anyone actually dying.
The fact that anyone, even defeated players can be brought back in a matter of seconds really has a detrimental impact on combat dynamics. More often than not it doesn’t come down to superior tactics or positioning but simply who can keep rezzing people constantly.
Even ignoring the odd nature of downed state, with the 300% normal HP, Rallying mechanics and corpse repositioning I think we can all agree that at least dead people should remain dead for the sake of PvP.
It would be hugely beneficial to WvW (and the game it total imo) if resurrections were only possible while out of combat.
At least that way Zerg vs. Zerg fights might actually be resolved.
I love the downed state personally. It adds a whole new dynamic to it all and provides a lot more strategy than one would think. How can you complain about long fights either? I don’t want a zerg vs zerg battle to be decided in 20 seconds. I want those fights to take a few minutes to play out. There is more strategy in play in 2-3 minutes than there ever will be in a 20 second fight.
If you’re just headbashing against each other all day all night you deserve to play a ‘boring game’ that you play.

I think the downed state is essential to the removal of dedicated healers from the game, essentially breaking up the trinity and allowing you to do everything in the game with whoever is just available rather then specific class combinations.
That’s not to say class combos don’t exist – that’s where the combo fields and other synergies come into play..
To get back on downed state, apart from some minor tweaks, it’s just fine as it is. I honestly don’t want those stupid fights we had in Aion, and yes, while sometimes somebody slips past you in downed state, it’s just fine.
It also allows us in mumble to call out “make them downies” or “double-downies”. But that’s just us… haha

I agree there, and you need to choose between fighting and stop fighting for a rez, offcourse
there is a limit of players that can rez a target already, so i dont quite get the rage on that.
P.S i rez downed players for ~1.5k+\sec.
I think the OP needs to find a different game. This must not fit the style she is looking for.

Just one thing OP is wrong about: rezzing needs to be removed entirely, not just in combat. Because if everybody can be rezzed, the winning zerg will always have zero losses, which makes fighting pretty much pointless when you’re heavily outnumbered.

I’ve been part of zerg busting groups of 15 v 40 and won these fights. It happens quite often actually. Lately with the way the meta game has been playing, numbers does not always guarantee you anything any longer. Not nearly like it used to about 2 months ago. Groups are starting to get very strategic and coordinated. It’s actually refreshing from most games where a zerg v zerg is done in about 15 seconds.

I agree with you if you’re talking about already defeated. I enjoy the down state minus the the disparity between classes, but dead is final. I think we’d see much more real action if that were the case as of right now either side can afford to leave teammates hanging during a fight as long as they can bunker long enough for the rest of the zerg to get there and they can rezz everyone after.

My opinion on the downed and defeated states:
1. Player base HP and Vit scaling should be doubled.
2. Downed HP multiple should be reduced by half.
3. Most downed state abilities should be removed entirely. Or, they should be strictly normalized between classes.
4. Defeated = respawn, not spy on the terrain for the next hour.
If the downed state is going to remain in the game (duh, it will), then I think it would be a better approach to increase the fraction of gameplay surrounding combat-while-living and decrease the total amount of gameplay that centers on rezzing people that already sucked enough to die.
Also, add a mechanism for lower health for consecutive downs. For example, being downed should give a -50% hp on your next down. Debuff lasts 30s and stacks to 3.

I dont mind about the ressing people,it’s imo the downed state that has no place in wvwvw,and feels quite unbalanced and a frustrating thing on most occasions.
With the maps being so incredibly small I see no reason not to just make people release once they get stomped.

Just because you can’t handle the extra challenge of finishing a downed player in certain situations doesn’t mean it should be removed.
