Roamer - gonna miss desert bl
You know I didn’t hate everything about it. Some really good work went into that map, but it lacked practical function for what we do. IMO the WP system was better with the alpine map and the layout for the keeps in the desert map was just too disjointed and lacked flow.
It always ticked me off that I had to jump off the wall and face-plant just to fix my armor after wp’ing back, or run all the way around to use the stairs that should have been right there to begin with. I always thought that was kind of a jerk move on the part of the designer. (sorry but just being honest here).
Me=roamer, I won’t miss it. Boring.
Roamer that’s not going to miss the deserted bl
Ex-(Solo)Roamer, I will Not.
I am a roamer and the leader of a roaming guild that generally runs 1-6 people, none of us like roaming on the new map. Not enough fights (We’re on Blackgate even.), the terrain is a pain to navigate. Barricades, random walls popping up on you when you’re trying to walk around, random crippling, randomly getting knocked off ledges by things that are blowing on you for no reason lol..
There are so many reasons to dislike the map, as a roamer who accumulated over 2000 of WvW ranks (of I think 2300 or so?) from just roaming, I think my experience should be important. I’ve spent over 4000 hours in WvW roaming as well. I don’t like Zerging, I don’t like EOTM, large group play in general is boring because it doesn’t showcase individual skill like roaming does.
When HoT started, the clear issue with desert bl was low population (at least playing from NSP). This would have happened to alpine as well – everyone was doing elite specs and trying HoT content.
This would have happened to Alpine and WvW in general for a SHORT TIME.. The expansion has been out since October, that is almost 7 months now and a large amount of WvW population does not play anymore because of the new maps. I stopped for a long time and just did PvP because of it too.
I used to be an roamer on old alpine, i did not like the new map. looking forward to alpine maps return.

I definitely feel you on this, though I’m sure it’s staying in rotation. That said, there might still be technical issues with quickly changing the maps.
No, DBL is horrible and caused a huge drop in WvW population. Please don’t bring it back until some significant changes in WvW/PvP direction are made.

same. i tried to like the map. i did the elite specializations and i hated this map so much. and all the guild changes and the horrible banners and 0 balance made me quit. desert borderland felt the same way it felt like watching the new ghostbusters trailer….a disaster!

Pretty much sums up desert BL for me.
DBL will not be missed here.
For the dozen or so that like the dbl, dw its not going away. The update this month will include improvements to it. Alpine will be back eventually no eta. And their will be a rotation of maps done once they can make the tech work.
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

I’ll miss DBL when they go, but I think I am one of the few to take the time to learn the new map and how to get around quick after HoT hit.
I’m interested in if the changes might make it appeal to a wider base.
Leader of TACO mini-roamer guild, Kaineng.
schedule:
alpine in rotation- roam, secure home bl, go to ebg if all is clear
dbl in rotation- log in (maybe), ebg (maybe) log out
DBL will definitely be missed, but should be in a rotation since they are reworking it. I enjoy the roaming in BL, get into very fun fights. Main problem seems to be the lack of enemy roamers, majority of enemy stay in groups 5+ and get upset when they have to contend with close to equal numbers. Most who complain about DBL appear to be large group players who don’t like to have difficulties winning.

So there is a lack of enemy roamers, yet you think only large group players dislike it, okay…
I hope it stays in the rotation going forward.

Currently, the desert bl tends to have some decent roaming fights, typically plenty of camps and towers to take, and pretty easily competed dailies – all by just going to an enemy bl and moving along the south edge of the map.
The scenery is nice, you can knock down a tower wall pretty quickly with a cata, and if you get into a lord fight in an enemy tower that’s a 2v2 you can get some pretty fun combat (there’s enough space to fight, and the lord attacks are meaningful sometimes).
Anyway, I hope that desert bl comes back frequently. I have fond memories of roaming on alpine, but I’ll really miss desert if we don’t see it again.
I can sympathize I will miss DBL. Have always enbraced change. Makes life more interesting. With the shrines there was always something to do for small parties. Will miss it all. Especially lich tower amd fire keep.
I hope it stays in the rotation going forward.

Missing all that pve stuff..you sure you want to play wvw?
I won’t miss them at all, if and when they finally get replaced by the trusty old Alpine maps.
Really what they need to do is have one EB and one border map – bigger and with a larger player number cap but made so that in order to cap A you must already hold B on the other side of the map (or something that splits the zerg into two zergs and needs some tactics).
Three BL is excessive except in peak time, so they should be working on a competition at the peak times that affects the score, involves wvw guilds having to co ordinate and generally makes for a better battle experience. Matched number instances- anything to liven it up a bit and make it worth logging in at peak time.

Its not necessarily about pve stuff, some people like the change of scenery and many small groups love stuff like shrines because its something they can do solo or with a small group and contribute to their side. Since there are multiple shrines, they could run around the map working on them, capping recapping, encourtering enemies, taking a structure every now and then, doing some mobile scouting. Where as on alpine, it was less dynamic for small groups.
