This is a very simple topic, I was brought here after being inspired by a reddit article asking for there to be a limitation on trial members ability to spend supply points. There are people who create trial accounts solely for the purpose of griefing other servers by building enormous amounts of useless siege, typically batter rams inside of a friendly keep. The suggestion is to prevent trial members from placing or building siege, but this is a whole different problem that is not the point of my topic.

Why are full accounts allowed to grief in wvw without repercussions? I play on Blackgate, and if you play wvw on Blackgate, there is a name that you know.

He is the most dedicated griefer I have ever seen in any videogame. I have caught him building 200 flame rams inside of our own garrison, draining it of supply. He follows around other commanders, constantly placing ballistas around where we are trying to build catas or rams, making it impossible to access. He even has paid for a commander tag, and leads pugs to useless locations, and I have even seen him lead people off of a cliff.

He has been reported thousands of times, I literally don’t know anyone who plays the game and hasn’t reported him at least a few times, and I just saw him playing yesterday, doing what he always does: griefing. Why should season 1 matter if griefers are never held accountable?

If season 1 is supposed to be the serious turning point of wvw, why is this guy still around? Just please ban him from wvw, I do not care what he does in pve or spvp, but the man is a menace to Blackgate wvw efforts. Again, if you play BG wvw, you know who this guy is, he is very blatant about his work. I’m just wondering why absolutely no action has been taken against him with so many user reports, some with screenshot evidence to his doings.

I don’t think ANet does anything about hackers and griefers. The fact that there’s no actual way to report them for hacking and griefing says as much. But this isn’t new, there are still bots in Plains of Ashford.

That’s terrible. One would think that — even though Anet doesn’t really care enough to do anything about griefers — in such an obvious and extreme case, some action would be taken.

Have you all tried reporting him for verbal abuse? (Isn’t that one of the report options?)

How do you know that griefing isn’t ANet’s idea of a feature to build tension in the game? How is it any worse than many of the other things they’ve implemented in WvW. It’s not like anybody (including ANet) takes this mess seriously anymore … at least not in the context of what it was supposed to be.

Sarcasm aside, after a full year of not doing anything about bugs, hacks, and abusers I don’t think you should expect ANet to do a kitten thing about griefers.

maybe all is fair in love and war and wvw is supposed to involve espionage and treachery?

but then again that would mean its competitive right? and Anet caters it to casuals. so that makes no sense either.

This issue is increasing substantially with leagues.

As far as I know, every server suffers from it. It kind of just even itself out. Every Match up there seems to be claims of “spies”. Honestly if there is no WvW or PvP, there are AH’s who will always do things like this. Get over it and play the game.

Hey Star didn’t think I’d see you on the forums. And yea Colder also claims to have been part of the military and discharged for medical reasons. That guy talks out his kitten so much. BTW nice GvG against CORE man, I saw the end of it.

We on Gandara have one in the form of [mod edit: name removed], runs around flaming every commander and placing ballistae build sites whenever we’re grouped up, wasting our supply and cussing any commander near him. Most everyone has reported him and by now we know it will do nothing… we all have him on ignore now, but recently he realised the forums don’t get blocked so he has a post there, yay

I feel a lovely sense of community and mutual hardship with you guys, you have my sympathies.

Your Griefers are nothing like the once we have at our server -

1.putting siege build sites on destroyed gates so we cannot repair since we cannot interact with the gate
2.putting siege build sites on mesmer portals just to making mesmers portals a useless feature for everyone.

Oh god another free trial… while I understand they want to grow the game… this causes all sorts of problems in WvW. It doesn’t seem like the dev’s even care about WvW very much other than to try to get us into sPvP-> ESPORTS!!!!!.

Just disable WvW for the free trials. If a legit potential customer enters at level 10 or whatever joins in WvW they’ll just get rotflstomped and not want to buy the kitten game specifically for it anyways.

TBH griefing like that sounds like itll be alot more fun than actual wvw during leagues……..

4. As many details as possible about the griefing, including chat logs and images to back it up.

Upload your images to a site like photobucket.com and include links to the images because Anet’s system automatically rejects images over a certain size.

Do not rely on in game reporting function if you sincerely feel this player is violating terms of service. The above steps helps anet help you. It has worked for me in the past with some pretty heinous griefers, but it does take about a week for them to investigate and take action.

Having to do all that sounds like griefer heaven. I mean, the griefer knows that if he makes himself a pain in the kitten for a few minutes that he’s going to make someone else spend a LOT more time putting together a report that ANet might actually follow up on … not to mention ruin even more of their in game time documenting all the information and doing all the fraps captures. No wonder that so few bother. GJ ANet.

I think you are asking for the wrong thing.

You should be expecting ArenaNet designers to build systems that are resistant or immune to griefing. They cannot make constant judgement calls on the fly about who is using supply “incorrectly” so they need make it intuitive and difficult to abuse.

There’s a lot they could do, possibilities:

- The supplies delivered to structures should just automatically go towards upgrades and repair NPCS so we never have to hear "don’t take supply from the keep!’ in map chat again.

- Do they really have to limit supplies at all? I am not really convinced a system where you go to the camp you get 10 supply wouldn’t be better. The only real issue with it is the power of arrow carts and ability for zergs to drop tons of them, but of course they already can just slightly slower…

- Hookpoints and limits on key siege pieces like golems and trebuchets.

The only thing that this discussion has taught me is that Anet is far more interested in policing their forums than their actual game. Moderators had the audacity to tell me in a pm to report the player in question, something that I have already done over a dozen times. Months of griefing with no action taken whatsoever, but I’m called out within less than 12 hours based on naming names? Also censored for swearing, despite my only intention was to quote the person in question.

I am offended.

Look at the above posts moderators, most of the people in here believe that you don’t care about griefing in the slightest, or even worse, that you are inept at managing your own game. Is that the image you wish to maintain? It is certainly the impression I have been left with.

I realize that forum moderators most likely have no say so in account bans, and you are just doing your jobs. But this has left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

Maybe there’s a ballista in it.

Indeed, he could be a bad player, a special needs kid doing his own thing or a 1st grader that is allowed to log on his parents account.

Spamming chat with vulgarity will warrant a ban, I doubt however building useless siege in game will be enough for Anet to step in and cut off his/her account.

Worst part…free weekend this weekend I believe Right after reset…last free weekend we had 4 accounts (all upleveled with random or troll names) draining keep supplies, killing golems, etc…

I had a buddy get gkicked for siege trolling one of our karma commanders. He sent me 2 minis worth 400g when he quit the game after. Play whatever roll you want in this game imo.

I fully agree, but I came to that conclusion early last winter.

So I understand this guy got banned … I assume someone actually took the time to file a ticket? It’s the only way I know to resolve issues like this, and if you take the time to document it, the issue gets resolved.

You think after all that griefing, no one thought to submit a ticket until now? More like Anet ignored this issue for months and months, and for whatever reason decided to act now (if indeed rumors of his demise are true).

My guess is it wasn’t filed under " violations" before.

I’ve spent much of my game time doing this. Not just in WvW, but also with ‘Teq Turret Trolls’.

Same people still there!

The problem has been there for many many months – with people building hundreds of arrow carts near the orb spawn in BL or leading golems to suicide jumps. It’s easier to pull in a free week-end but it was always there. Not to mention “scout accounts” or “transfer hackers” that make your server look bad.

But it’s true that some of them could be just “bad players”. Or looking for the build achievement like that arrow cart guy claimed to be.

Still – there is little Anet can do to stop them without risking to do damage to innocent players. The way they recommend (and it’s working at times, I can confirm) is to report them. But this is also open to grieving – I remember when the leader of a very powerful guild was banned for botting because of a synced report effort of the enemy server….

There is no easy solution. And starting witch hunts is the worst one.

Cause the Forum Moderators are also the ones GMing in game. If that were true then they probably messaged the guy and/or sent him a warning via other methods. What Anet does with another player is between them, in fact pretty much every game company out there has the same policy. You report a player, they act on it and do not publish or tell you how they respond. Note that if you didn’t broadcast them PMing you to deal with you, no one else would have known. So unless this guy broadcast any punishment he might have gotten, no one else aside from him and Anet would know.

The OP said he’s been reported, he also had an account on SOR and did exactly the same thing and has been reported by many people on SOR including myself. The accounts were very similarly named.

From what I understand an anet dev actually witnessed him griefing first hand and banned him on that basis. Nothing was done as a result of reports unless this dev was investigating him as a result of reports.

Disable sent/recieve mail for trials.
Disable siege placing by trials.
This way trials get the idea and feeling about WvW and griefers can not do this sad thing anymore.

And yeah you can say itsa war, but were playing a game afterall and this is not the way it should be imho

Disabling certain actions in wvw is not sufficient.

We saw several months ago that people could abuse siege and waste supplies. Anet’s solution was to impose a refresh cycle on siege and a siege limit.

With trial accounts you don t even need to do anything with siege. One can simply hold a spot on reset night and that would mean wasting a spot on the enemy map. Have 10 people do this and you have a serious problem.

As long as trial accounts are allowed in wvw, their presence is sufficient to be equivalent to wasting a spot. Limiting their abilities will not solve the issue. Not allowing them in wvw in the first place is…or allow them but do not make them count towards map cap and only allow them to repair not build
