There 3 leagues will now be tiers 1 and 2, 3-5, and 6-8. The season will also start on October 18th instead of the 4th.

This is a pretty awesome change. Props to the devs for being willing to change their mind and making 3 leagues instead of 2.

As I said in another similar thread: It’s not the 4 of 6 I wanted, but it’s something.

This is good, but it really makes me want to get out of Gold league. I feel like silver and bronze are going to be really intense, or at least have some relatively okay matchups.

Well I’ll be happy about this if dragonbrand does not sandbag the next few matches and toss SOS up into the gold league. our (sos) coverage isnt nearly up to par to put up a decent showing vs any of the top 5 in any timeblock outside our oceanic’s primetime.

Not looking too good on that front however. DB shouldnt be doing that poorly vs Mag and EB on reset night.

I sorta wish my server was in a position to tank for silver league. Unfortunately we will have to deal with no chance in the gold league with the losers (that cant tank enough) from the tank-a-thon.

Don’t think there’s anything we can do other than be trapped in 4th and 5th place guaranteeing us at least 6 out of 7 weeks of lag, bloodlust, and the worst forum warriors in the game.

Doubt it will happen though – our last two matchups (all servers ranked at least 4 levels under us) give us no way to raise our own rank. The only way would be to keep 600+ points and we would never do that! (KN and YB would not let us either)

well it looks like there will be some competition for the last spot of gold tier between sbi sos and mag cuze i know most mag would rather have to fight blobs than not fight at all.

SoS isn’t going to try and lose any matchup. And neither would Mags or SBI.

I can’t see how you would stage manage a loss anyway. You can’t make people stop playing.

Nice to see some players do have some pride left. Looking forward to facing the winner.

I have been on SBI since launch, but didn’t really get into WvW until Jan, which was after many guilds left and we fell down the rankings to 14th (or 15th was the lowest). I can say that the people who never transferred off of SBI wouldn’t mind being 6th. All summer we had a strong core of people, and we could compete with almost all the servers we faced during primetime, we just didn’t have the coverage during off peak hours.

I remember one day, complaining about ppt, while we were facing DB (and gettin killed), and Star Player told me to just focus on fights, not ppt. Great advice. I can’t speak for all of SBI, but it seems to me that we have fun out there, no matter who we face, even when DB was stomping us.

Now, that we got a lot of guilds that transferred in, our coverage has gone up. I don’t know why they chose our server, but I am glad, because they brought some skilled WvW players with them, and it is fun to run with them.

I think Gold league would be a blast, even if we finished last. But, with the people on our server, I bet we would give some servers hell. We tend to stay close enough to the higher servers in terms of ppt, to make them drop a rank (I seriously don’t understand the math behind the rankings).

Anyways…see whoever we face in the leagues. It will be a blast (at least we can get some achievements, unlike the current WvW achievements).

The trouble is that the difference of powers between 7 and 15, and 16 and 24 is still much too great to have interesting matchups.

4 leagues of 6 would still be much better.

You could just look into things before accusing a server of tanking on purpose. Bad enough all their guilds got bought by T1 recruiters, now they get to enjoy being accused of crap by dumb people in the process of settling towards the bottom.

They server stacked because they wanted to dominate in the second league. I doubt they share an interest in getting to the bottom of gold.

Well I said if they made 4 leagues instead of 2 I wouldn’t complain. They made 3 leagues so I’ll halfway complain.

I was actually really looking forward to SBI facing the top servers. A lot better to be getting crushed than be doing the crushing. I logged out after 20 minutes last night, just couldn’t take it, we already had 300+ PPT. I would never have believed it a few weeks ago but now the servers near us in ranking are no match for us at all.

A better split would be:
League 1: Rank 1-9
League 2: Rank 10-15
League 3: Rank 16-24

Devon, if testing the changes as you say in your blog means looking at the matches and determining if your planned split will give the best combination of variety and quality, I urge you to consider the above split when analyzing the data.

7 weeks with t1 servers. no. that means 7 weeks for us sitting on 60 ppt every night. great. and jq/bg/ sor keep getting more and more guilds.

well no wvw for me for 7 weeks then. the past 4 weeks were a pain for us. we never wanted to fight t1 ever, then they changed the matchup system and we were forced to. now its the 4th time in a row fighting a t1 server. it is painful when u get steamrolled by 60+ every time u take 1 thing or attempt to.
really just put the t1 in 1 league. i was on fa since the start and dont wanna move because we are forced to fight t1.

yeah but now anet destroyed 7 kitten weeks for us. no fun. u know facing a t1 server once in a while can be a challenge but those servers are soo stacked that they can fill every bl with 70 manmass blobs. i can siege up garrison all i want . that blob is in within 30 seconds then second gate another 30 seconds, than boom done, the rest of the bl will dissapear within 10 min max.

I’m really excited about the bronze league as currently planned. I’d say just about anyone in the bronze league could go into it expecting to have a reasonable shot of winning.

After a nights sleep I feel really bad about what I said. I had heard that a lot of the older guilds on DB were staying, but I didn’t realize it had reached this point.

This might be enough to kill SoS a second time. At least two leagues of 12 would give SoS another server to beat, but 7 weeks of tier 1 and 2 matches is unplayable.

Every single T1/t2 server I’ve fought has one big glaring problem: They’re collectively dumb as rocks. Trust me, theres plenty of fun to be had in WvW even when facing blobs by making them look really really dumb (not hard). As long as they won’t find a way to reduce the difference in strength and coverage between servers, nothing they will try to implement will work.

The only time we had a semblance of balance was when they made the servers of the same tier fight one another. But then, Anet decided they wanted to add diversity in the matchups, and since then, we saw mostly unbalanced matches.

this wont happen to a t1 server. before jq got the mass transfers, we actually had fun matchups with them. now its just another sor giant. sor/bg/jq have received soo many transfers over the last few weeks that right now noone can even have fun when facing them.
please anet make t1 a league ore allow alliances. but 7 weeks like this is gonna kill all t2 servers and after that slowly every other server out there

A lot of Dragonbrand’s WvW-oriented players left the server over the past two weeks. It’s also lost a lot of its SEA coverage since the server’s peak. It’s not an organized effort to tank the server’s rating. Sorry SoS, but it looks like you’re stuck in gold league. I’m wagering that SBI will stall out in 7th or 8th place.

And that’s not really that bad. That will mean almost all of gold league has decent coverage for at least some period outside of NA primetime. And the silver league servers will all be primarily NA coverage. Also, with the league change, you may see some of the top 3 servers de-stack a little to the rank 4-6 servers if the queues are too long.

The T2 servers are the worst place to be of the 24 servers. You will never fight anything but T2 and T1 servers and you are guaranteed to fight all three T1 servers (currently TC has close to T1 numbers so every week for 7 weeks you will more thank likely be crushed). There is no incentive to transfer to a T2 server unless you like getting your kitten kicked. T1 should be it’s own tier, never has any server below T1 come close to not being a blow out since the new matchmaking system was implemented.

If players want to fight T1 servers, let them transfer to T1 servers. No-one else has the numbers to reasonably compete.

The new league system is better for most servers but it’s a disaster for T2 servers. Population imbalances are a monster of a problem in WvW and nothing has been done to address it. The new league system is going to guarantee is a significant problem beating down on a handful of unlucky servers.

Match variation doesn’t matter anywhere near as much as some semblance of match balance. yes please anet make this happen u are destroying 2 servers at least. can we please have to option to not be part of the league then? can we decline. i dont wanna be part of a league where we are getting smashed for 7 weeks straight. a lot of people are already not logging in anymore because of this.

Dumbest idea. This would just benefit TC. Suck it up and be in the 1-6 league.

Man, you all complain too kitten much. Either participate or don’t. I don’t care if I get stomped during the season, I am still gonna play and have fun. And I do believe that getting stomped is more fun than doing the stomping.

Making T1 the Gold league by itself won’t help push players into transferring to lower tiers (which I believe is one of the reasons behind the League idea).

With T1 and T2 as the Gold league, there may be just enough boring weeks of blowouts that some guilds might consider transferring, but not enough to destroy WvW with too many blowouts.

Everyone complaining about t1. No one had noticed with the new division of league the NA NSP server is now going to be sitting on top of bronze league. The same server that Devon said he would be playing on and earnin the mata achievement …. Convenient much?

Love his “and I WILL be getting all the achievements” part… gotta love it. Going to the largest of the league and then saying he will get all the rewards… nice way to rub it in and say “you too can be a winner, juck stack!”
