Hello,
I saw the essence of this post in another thread but now I can’t find the thread to make a comment.
The Swiss format of tournaments is fine. It’s commonly used in chess tournaments. But I don’t think a Swiss system of tournaments is suitable for a section of six teams. Rather, I think that a Swiss tournament of nine rounds can be run with all 24/27 teams.
Before the tournament, scaled discounts for server transfers would be offered. Free to T7 and below, 1800 gems to T3 and above, maybe 600-1200 to T4-6. I’m guessing that some guilds have grown tired of the T1 queues and blobbing and want to transfer.
Pairings would be done similar to what is done now. Teams with higher scores would be matched together, with seeding as the tiebreaker.
Rather than a fixed reward per person for first through 24/27th place, I think it would be best to instead give a fixed reward per server. Then, the server reward is divided by the number of participants who completed the meta achievement.
So first place might be 2,000,000 mistforged weapon tickets. If first place is a T1 server with 10,000 participants, that would be 200 tickets per person.
Last place might be 500,000 tickets. If there are 1000 participants who earned the meta achievement, that would be 500 tickets per person.
The minimum number of points would be 200 and the maximum would be 500, like it is now.
The only special reward for first place would be the title of “Season Champion”.
