Separate PvE and WvW servers
There might be some resistance to this idea from those who are currently on servers with favorable participation ratios. This is more likely from those who spent money or gold to transfer and are happy with the results. How would you “distribute” players to avoid this?
I’m on Piken Square and frequently there’s queue to go into the map, expecially at night (21-23). If they add 2-3 servers to our border I will have to wait 1 hour to join a map…
If you don’t like WvW mechanics on your server then transfer elsewhere. There are plenty of people on every server that are happy with the current WvW situation.
Some people prefer the mass scale of the top tiers, other prefer the smaller more individually skill based lower tiers. Some people like the mix that you get from the middle tiers.
Please do not suggest that they should revamp their system and kick people off of a server that they have pride in just because you don’t like the playstyle in your tier.
-A Sanctum of Rall member that has experience every tier and would quit if they remove my server.
There’s a simpler enhancement that would be totally voluntary and natural:
- Identify the active WvW population by server, instead of the overall server population.
- Use this new number to determine which worlds are open to new players, etc.
- Periodically permit totally free transfers of up to a certain number of people from extremely high population servers to extremely low population servers.
The specifics of the last item are important. Limiting the maximum number of free transfers will both create a sense of urgency among the population that would consider leaving their server to avoid long queues and will prevent multiple large guilds from making a coordinated free move that creates another very high population server.
This is impossible, as I play both PvE and WvW. I don’t wanna have to rep Maguuma for PvE, and TC for WvW.
WvW imbalance is not caused by the existence of PvE players.

This is probably why server mergers haven’t happened already. If someone transferred from, for instance, SBI to a smaller server like ET, and we had a server merger that ended up with the player BACK on SBI, would Anet have to refund the money that that player had spent on Gems just to make the transfer? Would they need to refund money to EVERY player who had transferred to specific server that as then closed? It would feel, to many players, as though Anet one day said, “Hey, you know those permanent Axe/Pick/Sickle gathering tools that you spent real-life money to get? Well, the graphics are causing a problem, so we’re taking them out of the game and giving everyone a plain-looking, though equally permanent and effective gathering tool as a replacement.” I mean, sure, the game would go on pretty much as it had been, and the players wouldn’t actually be losing anything that affects gameplay, but lots of players bought those items because they wanted those specific items, and not some other thing that’s different, but works just as well. Lots of people paid to transfer to a specific server to play with a specific group of people in a certain type of setting or atmosphere. Shuffling people around through a server merger is fine, and I wouldn’t expect Anet to pay back the entire cost of the game or anything, as the game still works, but in paying for a transfer to a specific server, players were essentially paying for a very specific experience. If Anet decides to take that very specific server that they paid for out of the game entirely, would they need to refund the money people had spent to transfer to that particular server?
Personally, I think server mergers are actually a good idea, and would at least lessen the impact of many of the WvW population imbalances we see in the game now, however, I feel that 2 years of paid transfers would make a server merger very difficult.

You’re repping Megaserver in PvE, not Maguuma. So no need to worry about that part.
How is that different than the system already in place? We have heavy PVE servers, they are low on the ranks. All you’d be doing is moving the WvW population off them, which is just another name for a server merger, only the players who haven’t done WvW or only sort of do WvW would get locked out. That’s bad.
You could work on server coalitions that work together in WvW, but that’s just a complicated merger. Which many people don’t want anyway.
You could just give people free transfers, let them transfers where ever they desire, so there’s less risk of going to a lower ranked server. Transfer costs could be modified to reflect ranking, but I think people would just bandwagon on the one that’s winning anyway. If they are unhappy with their server and/or their ranking, let them move. The only other options to them is not play. They aren’t going to help their server if they refuse to play.
You could stop transfers being gold purchased, which prevents guilds from being purchased and/or mass transfers. But I think this is a terrible idea, because if you aren’t happy where you are, you should be able to move. Again because your other option is not play, and someone who doesn’t play isn’t benefiting their server. I’m sure there are better ways to stop the purchasing of guilds, but if they moved it’s because they wanted to.
On other forums I see people comment how terrible WvW is and how they just wrote the whole thing off. Guilds who tell all their players “Yeah don’t go to WvW, it’s not fun.” That’s bad.
I’m of the opinion you can’t fix WvW, but you could make it more fun and/or rewarding. That might coax players into playing it. After all we have tons of people on the servers, the problem is they don’t want to play. How can we get them to want to play?
There is a Point we might have servers thats are now Full while there is only 200 people joining wvw.
I’m not sure how many people can be on 1 server to give it the name full.
But can someone tell me if i buy the game and only gone play pvp and pve.
Whats the point for me to choose a server??
And whats the point for people who quited the game 1 year ago to still be attached to Our server????
So now you got a PvE Population attached to your server that will never have enything to do with your server besides the rubish server reward bonus thats only at his best on friday before reset. and you got an Inactive part of your server population that if they do come back after 1 year transfer because there server has changed to something else.
To be fair:
I don’t have a solution for this. because i don’t think i am fit to make a solution.
I do have idea’s about this but no clue if i should place them.
I only have 1 question and want people to think hard about it before answering.
Do you think PvE-Only, PvP-Only, Inactives(6month+ not online) should be Linked to your server??
Why not just make it possible for players to stand in as mercenaries for other servers, bar the ones that your home server is competing against? Make it so that you have to decide before the reset which server you want to choose (not choosing results in representing the home server) and you’re bound to that choice until the next reset. Extra points if the system weighs in your home server’s standing in the boards to decide which server will compete against each other, especially when a guild decides to commit to a world.
This rigidness seriously bums me and my guild out since we come from different servers. Especially since so many guild things are tied to WvW we can never experience without paying extraordinate amounts of gems (=money), since every European server is either rated high or very high population wise.
@Hmm.7902 your idea would be nice for Megaserver guilds. But it could make Matches really imbalanced.
Can you think of a 500man megaserver guild to rep the lowest server and play wvw for 4hours a day for 1 week. how wierd thats gone be if the match-up after that those people aren’t there enymore and they gained to much points that week. so they got into an other tier. that would destroy 2 weeks match-ups.

That’s why I said it should factor in where the mercenaries come from, especially when (big) guilds are involved…
Because when a 500 man mega server guild would start standing in for a “low level” server suddenly it wouldn’t be “low level” anymore for that week.

Gone be a bit wierd to calculate what server they should be fighting that week.
Since a guild can have a HUGE impact or No impact depending on what that guild wants to do in wvw.

Again, the idea would be to have new WvW servers separate from the servers we know. So instead of being on Blackgate you’d be on like.. I dunno, Rytlock’s Farts or Jenna’s Summer House and there’d only be like 10? of these WvW servers.
Small group play on lower tiers is a cute line but that small group play is getting worse and rarer as these populations get smaller. Since queues aren’t a thing, my proposition is that WvW doesn’t need that many servers anymore.
I asked a long time ago for an alliance system to be created. Where it removes WvW and creates a separate entity for us to join and fight for. Hoping there would also be themes, back story, and lore in said alliances. Heck, even add politics to fight for too! Have a Ellen vs. Evon battle that we get to join into. I’d OT like a mother on Ellen’s side just to pound those whiny lil brat snowflakes on Evon’s side into the ground.
For this to happen though, there’s one HUGE feature Anet would have to provide. That feature needed is voice comms. The dev’s know well what the server’s and guilds are doing with 3rd party platforms to make the game better. They need to step up and start integrating these things as in game features.

Wvw still can only hold so many ppl during a given time so by upping the cap for wvw servers chose would cause a lot more already Qed maps. As things stand there are not pve servers just wvw that shares the cap with pve ppl and that not a bad thing.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA
ANet has created a WvW system that cannot even theoretically work right. There is no way to balance competition with fixed server memberships competing on a fixed size battlefield.
The 24 hour day makes participation fluctuate wildly; and week to week participation can also change dramatically due to PvE content releases, school year, holidays, etc.
This obvious problem was finally solved for PvE with the megaserver, a system that should have been in place from the day GW2 released. Now they need a mega-server system for WvW that flexibly loads maps so anyone can get a good wvw experience at any time.
WvW imbalance is not caused by the existence of PvE players.
According to DB it is… They have a full server.
….. And Elementalist.
