I am currently looking into an active NA server. my friend wants me to join his server (Yak’s Bend) i just want to be sure i enjoy the server as well. what would be the best choice if i enjoy roaming and guild zerging in WvW? P.S. im not a fan of seige war’ing…

Sea of Sorrows or Jade Quarry

even being new to the game? it wouldnt be too overwhelming in a high tiered server? im not even on my first month into the game ha. i mean i havent left WvW and i have 4 lvl 80’s already but theres still a lot that im learning.

YB is famous for their siege humping.

I think in future, Fort Aspenwood is an up and coming T1 server. I say this because of the large amount of PvP players they have.

Its a good idea to look at PvP leaderboards for player skills, JQ is the best server NA for PvP, I’d say FA is 2nd best.

But don’t let that idea of thinking discourage you from joining Sea of Sorrows, I like that server. Blackgate I wouldn’t recommend, they are starting to go downhill now, best to join strong servers. Jade Quarry is the strongest T1 server and most pure as well. If you want a strong PvP, PvE, Guild, WvW community, Jade Quarry is that server every other server strives to be.

Yak’s bend is a good active server that supports different kinds of play styles due to its rank and matchups. If you’re a North American player, you can consider any server between Tier 1 down to around Tier 5 (rank 1 – rank 15) for active roaming and zerging during your time zone’s most active time slot (usually around 5-8pm local, whatever your local is). If you’re not a North American player, you’re really stuck with the first 3 servers as your choices if you’re after an active zerging scene.

Every server does the siege warfare thing, as it’s a pretty central part of the game mode, but joining a fight/pvp focused guild will help with your experience.

As for uberkingkong, I think he’s just upset Blackgate beat his server a few times and is considered the dominant server

“I’m not fan of siege wars” – Well, you will HATE Yak’s Bend then…. You can ask anyone across all servers, the answer will be the same: YB is known for it’s legendary AC humping.

You’re terribly wrong if you think we at Yak’s Bend only siege humps. All servers do it but the difference is that we don’t lie about using them for defense.

Honestly. YB tends to hump siege a bit too much.

They open field once in awhile, usually with disastrous results unless they have a much larger force.

I was glad to see Mag gone from Tier 2, as they don’t show up anymore, but YB has been a huge disappointment for us at FA and I’m sure they disappoint SoS as well.

Just not enough guilds willing to open field and/or GvG.

If you look for zerging look into Blackgate and Tarnished Coast. They always have zergs

T1 isn’t actually a bad place for new players; that’s where most of them go for WvW. Any of them have enough population that someone is doing something you’re interested in.

Would stay well clear of YB though, they’re easily the most repulsive and obnoxious server of the lot at the moment. Bandwagoning does that to a place.

YB is super mellow… more than any server I have been on. Pretty much nobody gets tweaked when something flips that probably shouldn’t have. They also coordinate better than any server I have been on. Lastly they have a very stable population with decent coverage. The odd thing about YB is just how bad some of their players are. Overall fun server, filled with great people and a do what you want but please support the cause attitude. Roaming has been good and nobody seems to get fussy when players do their own thing.

Having fought FA for months (years?) they are a fight driven server. They do blob (often in a spectacular fashion) but they also have a large amount of skill groups and great roamers. Oddly though they are probably more fun to fight against than to be on because of this. I love fighting against FA and would consider any server opposing them as a good home. Overall they have earned a “Never Retreat, Never Surrender” attitude.

SoS is an odd duck. They used to dominate with coverage but that has faltered lately. They blob more than FA but they still have some great small scale fighters. They would not be my first pick but I don’t know anything about their internal culture. Overall they are like oatmeal… nothing really wrong with them just a bit average from the outside looking in.

Fought against them often enough – the amount of bad behaviour from that server is astonishing at this point in the game’s life cycle. Don’t get me wrong, you’re in for an easy ride on YB but at the cost of being despised by everyone else.

If you’re looking to have someone pay your way onto their server, Blackgate should be able to help you out with that.
