It’s always nice to see one server protecting the keeps & garrisons of a lower server. I was in a group (green) attacking the red server’s garrison when low and behold a blue server blob came and wrecked us before we could take down the inner wall. Amazing how the blue server didn’t go ahead and take the red server’s garrison. About 30 minutes later, we were attacking the red server’s West keep and low and behold, the blue server showed up again and attacked us while they let the red server into the keep. At one point, both red and blue servers were blobbed up on the same battlefield next to each other.

It’s fun for us, but we know what’s going on.

I think fights should stay as three-sided as possible.. Defending other servers’ PPT I don’t exactly agree with. However, there have been a few times when a lower population group from another server was getting mega-blobbed and we went in to smash the back end of the blob so their fight was more even.

I remember last week, where SBI was taking stuff from IoJ, and FA would show up. Guess what? We would wipe FA at the keep and keep going for IoJ’s keep.

Also, FA would come wipe us at times when we were taking an IoJ keep.

Sometimes you wait til the 2 are engaged, and then you run in and wreck the 2 and take the keep.

It isn’t collusion when that happens.

Yep, that has been happening on our server, too. Blue and red working against green together. Its really BS…. And only shows the lack of Red being able to actually play. Hiring Blue to protect them and help them get second…just lame.

During the first season Yak’s Bend completely colluded with Ebay to beat Stormbluff Isle. At one point they allowed Ebay to take their entire BL for PPT, and escorted Ebay’s zerg around so it could take SBI’s keeps and towers.

It was disappointing.

As I remembered, this only happened because both Yaks and EBay were complaining that SBI was gaming them first by getting people into the servers to waste supply and destroy siege like golems and such.

theoretically this is how it should work. the 2 lower ranked/weaker servers focusing on the stronger one more to balance the 3 way match.

LOL, But this is the top server and the bottom server focussing the middle server. I would love it if it was the bottom two focussing the top. But nope, its not.

My guess is the Swiss matchup system doesn’t help either, it creates some strange incentives for servers to engage in 2v1 behavior to finish ahead of as many of their competitors as possible.

Piken got ganged up on by Gandara and FSP last week when it was looking like we were going to beat FSP otherwise. It’s tough life and unsportsmanlike, but it happens and there’s not really anything anybody can do about it.

It’s a war game, not a sport game. All is fair until the devs program it out or ban you. Enjoy.

We are Kitiara (probably the same guild). Welp, either way, can someone enlighten me on how this is supposed to be a swiss-style tournament?

Looking back at the Tournament post, they didn’t say that there would be leagues (ie. gold, silver, bronze), so why didn’t servers get matched up against servers who ended up with the same match-up rank?

Ie. BG/SoS/FA (all were #1 in their matchups) – Mag/TC/SBI (all were #2 in their matchups) and so forth?

This week, the server I’m on finished #2 in their match-up last week, but we are facing two #3s. Why weren’t we pitted against the other #2s? This makes me think that they are doing a swiss-style tournament within leagues.

My feeling is that a swiss-style tournament that will be going on for 9 weeks needs more than 6 participants. Or it will be a “rinse and repeat” from week to week after about the 3rd or 4th week.

The top 12 servers should be involved in 1 tournament and the lower 12 servers should be involved in a 2nd tournament. Not the 1-6,7-15,16-24.

It should probably be something like 1-3, 4-9, 10-21, 22-24 for NA. Top three are stacked so high and bottom three are all but deserted.

But why even bother with tournaments when the results are known already beforehand? Just give prizes out every 2 months to servers according to rating.

I know Anet (and many in my server) feel it is a legitimate tactic but when it is not a true 3 way competition, I don’t see why servers winning this way can be so proud. Few servers no matter how strong can win against 2 servers cooperating.

This is a very reasonable tactic that makes immense sense in the right context. Preventing the strongest server in a match from flipping a weaker server’s T3 tower/keep delays the likely advance of said enemy. Sometimes harassing the stronger force is the best way to keep them from ticking more points and prevents them from dividing then conquering.

during tournaments it’s not a 3-way competition. it’s a 9-way competition (6-way in NA gold league) so you need to look beyond just who you’re playing this week.

Ah, that was a great thread. I’m glad they preserved it and didn’t delete it.

I have no respect for players/servers that focus the weaker opponent as opposed to fighting the stronger one. Losers will say “but….PPT!”; but the only way things will get better is if you can take on the strongest enemies and improve.
