I have been thinking with all the server transfers happening how some servers remain with very high populations. I have been on GoM since release except for 1wk spent on SBI a few weeks ago and there was a drastic difference in the amount of people milling about in LA. I know its impossible to get a count of people and compairing GoM LA to SBI’s may not be the best either but it made me wonder. Could servers with very high populations actually be much smaller from inactive accounts being counted towards the population? Does a-net have a time limit for accounts that are inactive or are they forever linked to a server and artificially inflating the server size?

We will never know. Arena Net never shares their metrics. Sometimes they drop some obscure pointers to data that could mean a million different things depending on how they were acquired.

You could assume things based on your own experience but that assumption could just as easily be discarded due to a myriad of things.

They won’t assume that the way the count is bad.
But don’t worry Dave, I’m from GoM too. I regularly guest on multiple servers for Meta Events, mostly on TC because they seem like a nice bunch, even when I’m not doing a meta event.

And on all the very high population servers I guested on, GoM is the only one where I experienced :
-Being the only one at Maw. The only other thing going on was Jormag, and we were 15.
-Failing the Shatterer, or seeing that after 30 minutes the pre events weren’t done (I wasn’t there to do them)
-Doing old Teq with 4 other players
-Fire elemental with 3

Oh yeah those things were mostly during dead hours, but I also play on other servers during those hours and I have yet to experience something like that.
So either peak population is enormous (what time is the peak ?) or most people permanently guest on other servers. But I have my doubt on the peak population, because during the same day a server can go from “high” to “very high”, yet we always stay “very high”.
Or maybe people are hiding.

Server Population /= WvW Participation. As well, server population fluctuates depending how many people are logged into that server at that time.
