I’m currently in Henge of Denravi (HOD) and we are currently listed as a full server, where no inward server transfers can be made.

I’m just wondering how long before do Anet does a server population count? Can WvW population be monitored as a separate entity because big server numbers doesn’t really mean high WvW numbers. Or will we actually get to see a breakdown?

It is detrimental to servers like HOD, where actual wvw population is not really high (maybe due to coincidental lack of interest in wvw in this server) but we are always full.. and we cannot even get our friends from other servers to join us.

Thanks.

The population of a server is based on how many entered WvW that week, not how many accounts are actually there.

If you’re listed as full then you just have a lot of PvE players that tried out WvW recently

They don’t do actual server accounts for population count anymore, not for like 2 years now. They constantly check wvw activity for population status, which means recently more pve and returning wvw players have been playing to get your server to full status, which is now sitting above the population threshold count they set.

If the wvw numbers keep up maybe anet can raised the population threshold.

Also most of these servers have been open for almost a year, the servers didn’t even go full until like a week into the new rewards, and now people are concerned about getting friends in?

Another derailing post. ^^

I played against you guys not long ago, and I can tell you, you picked up a LOT of WvW people recently (not this, but previous weeks), even before the pips. It started maybe at patch announcement time ? Your zerg sizes have gone way up on average, along with having a ton more roamers, hard to get to any place on map without running into a few HoD people around prime time. This is actually pretty good, even though I end up on the receiving end of thief pairs quite a bit, it beats the hell out of playing on empty maps.

For some servers like SoS, within past few weeks, it looks like they gained massive transfers/numbers. For us in TC going from 2 links to 1 has just about killed the server.

its a weird system that’s for sure, but so are player participation levels if we have population being counted on a weekly basis and “full” servers with small wvw numbers. if you shorten the population count to under a week then you create a situation where you get fuller numbers off hours and unbearable queues at primetime. i think a change may be warranted but I’m not sure how.

suggestion from someone else in another thread was to add a 5th tier and give 3 more servers “host” status. That might help distribute populations better and get some of the marginally “full” servers off the bubble.

as other said population is based on WvW only, the issue is if a server gets a queue it will reach full, even if is empty during 90% of the time.

servers need to have more informations, as in 3 time states, for morning stat, afternoon, and nigh population stat. not a laber thats is misgading and borking alot the stuff.

They’ve been doing this for quite some time.

Fellow Warriors of the Mists,

World population is visible on the labels on the World Selection and Transfer screen. It determines whether you can transfer to a world and, if you can, how much the transfer will cost. These measures historically have been set based on aggregate population levels around all game modes. But because World versus World is the only game mode to which worlds apply these days, we have developed a better model that exclusively uses WvW data to determine population levels and transfer costs.

We will be rolling out the new model soon and some shifts in the population levels should be expected. We’ll continue to monitor the situation, and we’ll make all adjustments we deem necessary to improve the WvW experience. As always, your feedback is very welcome.

See you in the Mists,
— Samuel

people are ALWAYS concerned about getting friend in, the issue being that you CAN get them in in the past but now u CAN’T. of course there is going to be an uptick of player for pips, however since this exist in all server it is not the server getting more full but a hardcoded number in anet being unable to deal with the change of interest in the playerbase change. what we need is a softcap based on overall ratio players then a predefined number that does not reflect traffic. as you said, server are not full so why suddenly are they all full? it make no sense.

furthermore, after the excitement has wear down and player population has drop, because of accumulation, server are still reflected to be full. this is very unresponsive to actual server condition. since the wvw match only last a week, the buffer shouldn’t be longer than a week. the server are too unresponsive to condition, this also add to the problem of server link imbalance.

And right now, what concerns me most… is that the amount of complaints/feedback/suggestions that have been put forward and ANET seems to have NOT replied any of these issues on server population.

WvW is what makes GW2 so unique and enjoyable. Please spend some time to understand the inherent problems that we are facing.

When you see the hard core WVW servers almost being punished for having a good WVW player base that actually plays it’s sad. What it looks like the problem is, is that Anet bases population on WVW server population. So basically the servers that don’t get their server players involved in WVW don’t have enough players. So they get linked, then they have more players and a higher WVW population which is good. However, the linked servers then notice this link and all the people who rarely WVW on the linked servers decide to WVW and outnumber the other server that has no link, so it kind of backfires. Then you see T1 servers (all except BG ofc) dropping from 1st to 5th like Mag or 3rd to 12 like TC right now. It’s very unfair to punish the servers that actually get their players involved in WVW, but I’m not sure another way they could go about fixing this to make it fair for everyone.

That’s not how full server works, they will still be full.
