I have a question about transferring servers. I’m putting it here in the WvW forum because the only reason to transfer is for WvW. So I figured someone here might have done it and know the answer.

If you delete all your characters in order to transfer to free. Then on the new server you name your new characters the same names. Make them be the same races and same professions.

Will your soulbound weapons and armor be able to be used by your new characters incarnations of the same name on the new server?

I didn’t really think it would. So I guess I need to salvage all my runes and sigils before I transfer…

Tried it on deleting a character and recreating it once, and nope it doesn’t work. Soulbound seems to be bound to the specific character, not the name (or class/race etc).

With how much traits and everything cost now you are better off converting gold to gems and transferring. Or just getting a second account next time the game goes on sale

I went the 9.99 route to see what t1 was like. Traits are indeed a royal pain in the kitten , unless you have enough scrolls for sps and gold…..

Every character have an unique ID. This number maters not the name.

If your going that route just make sure to store all your items in your account back first, I would work on getting the gold for a transfer, do you really want to level up all your toons again with this stupid npe and trait unlock crap.

And as others have said, no to your question. Soulbinding affects the individual character it was applied to and every toon, every item has a unique id and code attached to it. So replicating a toon with the same name, race, look etc does nothing. Your actually just making a new toon with a new id, but same name etc so everything is fresh with it.

Warning: If you put soul bound items into the bank and delete the char, the only thing you can do with these items is delete them, e.g. you cannot take them out to salvage (extract runes/sigils) or NPC-sell them.

There is another alternative to transfer: Buy a new account. (Best when there is a special price offer) For 10-20€ special price, you not only get a transfer, but also 5 char-slots, 1 bank-slot, double daily/monthly rewards (e.g. double amount of T6 mats bought from laurel-rewards per month), with 2 accounts you can email items to yourself, you can share a bank-guild (no idea which restrictions of email and guild-bank access exist for NA-EU distribution) … at the price of no access to account bound stuff (ascended equip, karma, BoHs, …) and the need to buy any extension twice.

Thanks for the replies, that’s what I figured. I don’t want to buy another account though. I refuse to give Anet any more money until they show improvement in their attention to WvW.

And I have no where near enough gold – plus that would just be contributing to Anets coffers too.

So its either quit the game or delete and transfer. I’ve got to set a reminder to salvage all runes before I transfer – thanks for that piece of info Dayra.

You do have another option – step up and try and build WvW on your server. That’s what I did. I just spent 30 minutes typing up a few posts explaining to someone why my server has grown so much. Trust me, it works
