We are all aware of most of the exploits some players are using, yet Anet do very little about it and are very slow to act upon it.
Yes, they may eventually ban the players involved but that does noting to balance the difference these players have made or the harm they have done to the opposing server.
I personal feel the time has come for Anet to get tough and not only punish those who exploit but also the server they are on as well.
I know this may seem very harsh but blame the bad apples and point them out.
The more players who do this the faster Anet can get things fixed and the vast majority of clean players get to fully enjoy the game.
The simple fact that there is very little if anything zero counter that a server can do against an exploit.
The server that has been exploited against are punished with a deficit in points and revenue while the other reaps in the harvest.
Anet’s game coding is far to accessible to exploit and has a nonexistent guard coding to boot, something Anet needs to look into putting in place without delay.

What about players who have access to accounts of individuals who no longer play and who also dislike opposing servers?

Sounds like a good opportunity to transfer this “dead” account to the opposing server and exploit. Opposing server is now punished for something they did not condone or participate in.

Exploiting needs to be addressed. However, your proposed solution is not the correct way to go about it. I can’t think of any situation where punishing the innocent is an ideal resolution.

Or just ban the country IP the exploiter is from, bam, soon no more xploiter problems.

The unfortunate reality is that the devs don’t act upon reports quick enough for it to make any difference. By the time a player is banned for exploiting the weeks match up is probably long over and their server has gained all the points that shouldn’t have been given to them.

I think an easy fix… at least for “fly hacking/jump hacking” would be to make all vets/guards within a tower/keep have a buff that stops them taking any damage unless a wall or gate has been breached. Once a gate or wall has been breached the buff vanishes and will only reappear once all gates/walls are at least at 10% hp so they are “up” again and have been at a stable up position for “X” amount of time to give any players still inside chance to take down a lord.

The other solution would be a “report exploiter/hacker” on the report section that would alert a dev to jump straight into the match and see it for themselves, this would need much more moderation though.

That’s the point yes these dead accounts could be used to harm a server but if those accounts are used in exploiting yes the server would be punished but those accounts would be banned, so over time those dead accounts you talk about would vanish from the system.

As of mid-September, there were over 2 million GW2 accounts/games sold. That number is likely much higher by now. Even if just 1% of those are dead accounts that current players have access to, that’s greater than 20,000 potential WvW-matchup-ruining accounts. It only takes a handful, or even one, to break a close match. This culling you are suggesting could take quite some time.

Even ignoring the statistics, the larger issue with your suggestion is still that it promotes punishing innocents. I’m not quite sure how that can be taken seriously.

.

I like this suggestion. But with some modification. Not all npc guards should have the buff. Just the main keep/tower lord and perhaps a few surrounding him. And leash them to their little area. If the npc guards just outside the door/wall are invulnerable until you breach the wall or door then you’ll never be able to legitimately breach a keep or tower. At least with a ram.

And I’ve also seen plenty of npc guards that are normally inside go outside and fight the attackers. Not to mention the npc archers, etc. up on the walls. I wouldn’t want them invulnerable during a legitimate attack.

The only way to prevent exploits and hacking in WvW is to have a moderator for each matchup. They need a “monitor program” that watches how things happen, in what order, etc. They need to actively monitor the matchups. Problem is, that costs money, and this game has no subscription fee, which means there are no funds for that. They could try to code in a better anti-cheat system, but that will take too much time. I gave up caring about the exploits effect on the matchups. Just report, move on, and hope that eventually they figure out how to stop it. Until then…. no orbs.

Not a bad idea. As long as “X” is, say, “45 minutes”. That gives hidden mesmers ample opportunity to take advantage of their position while still meaning that most forts have that buff most of the time.

Ultimately, though, everyone is correct that Arenanet will have to become more efficient at cracking down on hackers. We don’t want this game to turn into another APB (where the game was completely swarmed with 3rd party hacks/exploits and the original developer actually went out of business and laid off all the employees because not enough people were buying their game full of cheaters).

‘Easiest’ temporary fix. Make all lordsrooms have their own door. So even if you fly in anywhere, you still have to break down that last door.

Other than that, it can’t be easy to fix this. They need proof before they can ban. And that takes time and manpower!

Concerning speed/flyhacking. What ANet needs to implement is a program that scans for anomalies in the code. Programs that are latched onto the game alter code in order for character models to behave different than they should.

So a program could be embedded from server to client that scans a couple of entry points every time a character makes a transition. If it detects faulty code, it will terminate the game and send its report to ANet. Basically it would function like a form of Intrusion Detection System.
