Recently a lot of (especially German) servers used shield generators as offensive weapon as they assault higher tier towers and keeps. For example green keep in EB can easily be taken with just building superior rams on outer double gates (since nobody from ArenaNet bothered to fix this double gates in 4 years) and they also reach inner gates. So big blobs of attackers then build 2-3 shield generators to permanently bubble the numerous superior rams, making it impossible to either disable them or to damage them with either skills or siege. So defenders are again on the worse side of this situation, since bigger enemy groups not only outnumber you, but can also out-siege and making defending a keep or a tower impossible. Not to mention if you mix catapults (that can shield bubble) and shield generators. And as you are focused to either disable or destroy the shield generators, door are usually open and keep is lost.

My thought is that these kitten things shouldn’t have made it into the game as they are right now.

Shield Generators are great. And should be used for both offense and defense of towers and keeps. It is siege. And siege can be either.

Use a thief or easy get-away class to disable the generators. 10 supply, easy to use.

It isn’t new, that is how SG is used in offensive manner. All commanders with some brains who are leading a blob against a smaller group always do this. However, the problem with that is SG will barely cover itself so if you have good stealth users, you can still disable SG from behind. Once SG is disabled, try take out sg asap.

@OP: you’re complaining about something that can reasonably be used for both offense and defence. That just doesn’t make any sense.

But on the other hand a lot of what is currently part of the game makes even less sense.

My original thought was, that the defending team should have the advantage when defending their tower/keep even if outnumbered, so they stand a chance of repelling the bigger group. Would make only sense, since attacking a fortified installation has always been a hard military operation for the attacker.
Yet with shield generators ArenaNet made it even easier for the attacker to take any tower/keep, making defending an even harder job then it was before. Yes you can make shield generators for defence, but in the long run, the bigger group wins, thus negating any chance for outnumbered defenders to keep their forts.
Just sayin’ its kitten annoying.

it is impossible to siege a tower if you know how to defend it shield gen can negate all wall dmg arrow cart can negate all ram dmg. in true WvW only way to push something should be to treb it clear shield gen.

siege does not share internal CD with each shield gen only lose range based on there grade = you can have 2 shield gen active at once well manning arrow cart to stop ram dmg. that just assuming only 1 person defending.

I mean you can’t disable cats or golemns when they got thier shield skills on themselves……regardless of whether ur inside the dome and standing right next to it. I always found that to be dumb. ac shots go through those bubbles though…….which i also thought was stupid.

Shield gens though…..they filter ac fire which makes sense. They can’t be disabled while they are inside their shield domes though (correct me if im wrong on that i might be).

Also I was curious, can you have like 50 people use a shield gen’s shield in succession 1 after the other? Or does it have its cd tied to the generator?

I mean I always found/find it stupid you can spam ram skills in succession when people get on and off it 1-by-1, cooldowns should be tied to the siege piece in question not the player using it. I mean a player next to 5 cats should be able to man and fire all 5 in succession if they so choose, only wait time being the one it takes for the first cat to come off cd.

That literally had nothing to do with this conversation……we could easily flag that as advertising since u added nothing to this thread other than a link that leads to an ad.

OP is a description of one correct use of shield generators. They are a tool. It’s up to the players to decide how to use them.

As a defender, either a sneak attack or a push to disable or destroy gens is one of the fun things to do. If you can’t manage that then you weren’t going to save the tower/keep anyway.

I agree with you. But it all goes back to lopsided matches and coverage which rewards the stacked servers and the large “special friends guilds”…The rest of us are suppose to be cannon fodder for their amusement IMHO.
