Viz and SFR are really only equipped to fight with each other. Any other third server in that matchup, including Piken, just winds up being a witness. The gold league wasn’t that bad, except for knowing from the get-go who would win it. The fights were good, the matchups challenging, and all the servers in the gold league gave a good fight — with a few nail biters too.

I think if SFR and Viz had to face off against each other more (they only saw each other at start and end of leagues), it might help a bit.

Exactly how i felt about EU silver league, I really enjoyed it, even against servers who nightcapped the hell out of us. I dont understand why people hated the leagues? So what you may have not come 1st in a matchup but 2nd place gave 3 points towards overall league structure, which still gives u something to fight for, even if 1st place wasn’t an option. People who deserve to complain are those that got stomped every week like UW, through no fault of their own may i add, but mainly from internal issues and guilds jumping ship etc, right before start of league with no time to rebuild for the league.

Piken, viz and deso should be in gold league alone.

Reasons: omg queues

Anet’s insistence introducing PVE only players to WvW succeeded wildly. The result was hour long queues throughout primetime while all the PVE junkies are getting their fix of APs. If you want to play WvW come back at 3am. If your get connection goes down and you get DC’ed from WvW you get to sit in queue again.

There’s nothing so demoralizing as when you’re losing by being outnumbered while your reinforcements wait in queue.

Although my server didn’t win a lot, we at least didn’t get wiped like before.

“why?” you may ask, because before the season started it was too casual that if you lost and fell behind on friday and saturday no since shown up for the rest of the week because people didn’t care. i think it adds fuel to a fire that has been dieing.

Are there problems with it that needs to be fix? no kitten! are they fixable to have back to back seasons? NO. Does that mean we should scrap it? GOD NO. let them work are fixing issues that are stated before me in which i will not dive into.

AlSO the guy from SoR who talked about how easy it was to beat the non t1 servers guess who’s server didn’t quit like babys last week and kept fighting for that second place finish. TC and now with this weeks match-up its our servers fight to lose for third.

That said, I think the next league should be involve four leagues:
Platinum – BG, JQ, SoR
Gold: TC, SoS, Mag, FA, SBI, YB
Silver: DB, BP, EB, CD, and two of NSP, IoJ, HoD depending on their rating post-season 1
Bronze: Everyone not listed above

This would probably lead to a more balanced experience for all parties involved.

Everyone else is relatively close in coverage, or close enough so as to prevent the kind of obscene blowouts that destroy morale and stop people from playing matchups.

While I agree there should be 4 leagues, I don’t agree (based both on experiences and overall matchup results for the season) that CD, NSP, or IoJ belong in the same league as the others you have listed for silver.

If I were going to do leagues it’d be more like:

Even that is not going to guarantee ideally balanced matchups, but it would certainly be a lot better than what’s occurred thus far in S1, IMO.

I understood what we were in for before seasons started. I appreciate in concept what they tried to achieve with the seasons, but the decision had significant impacts on the populations of a number of servers. My one hope now is that they will provide enough of a gap between seasons to allow servers to recover.

In my estimation, it seems to take as long as 2 – 3 months for a post-exodus server to begin to rebuild a wvw presence internally. Even then, the presence could be considered fairweather under certain circumstances. So, you have to allow some time for that presence to gain some experience, and hence understanding of the ups and downs of wvw.

If you believe what I wrote then that means under the current design, and wishing to avoid inducing repetitious population changes, having seasons a couple times a year would probably be appropriate. Without any other intervention into the system design, the process would just repeat if seasons were more frequent.

Also, it would be better to drop the RNG and move back to tiers with something like 1-up-1-down style progression (3rd place moves down a tier the following week, 1st place moves up a tier). That would avoid ridiculous match-ups, but would give more match variety than the pre-glicko days.

TL;DR – rebuilding wvw pops takes time. The choice of format moving forward and the timing of seasons needs to take that into account.

With some changes. Launch S2 with EOTM, make all S2 cheevos obtainable in there. This would make them accessible for the average PvE player who wants to dabble in WvW, without forcing them into the match itself. Work on achievements while in queue, kill some people, have fun. Work people in WvW, but go at a babysteps pace.

Things should go back to normal for a while, until the start of S2 is announced. Then, we’ll see even further server instability as a win is guaranteed to whichever server stacks the most. That’s an ugly thought. I know anet feels that all servers have ‘robust’ populations, nobody wants to show weakness when trying to sell games and consolidate servers, but the very game play they are promoting with these leagues is what’s going to contribute to servers becoming deserted. I mean, where do you think servers get people to fill up time zones? It’s not from new players, it’s from servers above or below them.

So, yeah, by all means have a S2, but put a little more thought in it in regards to your current WvW players, and server stability.

if there is a season 2 they should make it shorter and make the achievements harder so that WvW players get more PvE player filling the outnumbered borderlands most of the time….

here is an idea proposed in Alpha that should have been implemented but never made it because of ….monkeys….. Alliance wars! but yeah, never will happen .. like evenly matched servers/skill balance/team kick/report options/commander UI or generaly logic decisions.

Enjoyed Season 1: Begining was fun even if due to our low population we were able to do some good things but when a lof of people understood we were going to be top 3/3 during 7 weeks a lof of them stopped to play in WvW and a lot of other changed their server to get a better reward or to go to a silver/bronze server to get an easier fight…At the begining we were too strong for silver league but too weak for gold league and now because of the league idk what we are going to do the next season …

Should we have season 2: no because what happened to AR will probably happen to another server and the players that really love the WvW wont have all the fun they could have.
Also WvW isnt really about who have the best strategy its just about who can get a big zerg 24/24

No after all the damage WvW S1 did.

JPs for ach is a joke isnt it in WvW ?
Merc camps far to much and only in EB.
Repairing ach has done a lot of damage to all regular WvW players.

Constantly killing dollys was a nightmare to the escorters.No ach here for escorting guys which were the ones really important for a server advancing.And how to do the ruins one while escorting ?
What about the commanders? I would like to know how they have managed the ach points.
The players on low populated servers which are not able even to get close to the merc camps. Or to get a Bessie down. JPs are not the solution to that.

Enjoyed Season 1: Mixed feelings, at the start we could muster a nice force and do something. (i’m not talking about taking an entire map and defend it but we could afford to attack SM once a while) But towards the end of the season when our army started growing smaller, it was barely playable. If we could muster a 30 man zerg, the enemy would run us over with almost 100 guys. Making playing a nice game effectively impossible. Add to that the many people that leave after a zerg-wipe and we were totally reduced to farm-material. Barely holding on to a few towers and camps.
Should we have season 2?: Maybe; if the server could be balanced properly towards the effective number of players. Because, face it, who likes to play WvW when you can’t set a foot outside the safe-zone only to be hit like a truck by a zerg outnumbering you 5 to 1 or more (we were outnumbered the majority of the time)

Every sane person would anser this question with “no”. Getting farmed permanently or farming permanently without balanced matchups is not fun. The old matchup system was much much much better. And everyone knows it. Just need to wait for ArenaNet to accept their failure and come to post and declare that there never will be seasons again.

The main problem is that you get a lot of imbalanced matchups because bronze servers fight against gold servers – and that only because the gave cheap transfers before and did not lock the transfers while running league.

Of course the old ranking 1-9 = gold, 10-18 = silver is wrong then if the all players transfered.

ArenaNet did not think players would use a feature of the game ha ha. (= server transfers) … a bit fail huh

Reason: WvW use to be my favorite part of the game, now I almost never play. Seven weeks of getting almost continually stomped by servers with more population and better coverage isn’t fun.

If WvW isn’t suppose to be balanced or fair, let’s not dress it up like it is.

Chests and finishers (temporary versions) need to be weekly rewards. Actual rewards should be based relative to server rank score gained/loss against match up that way your server always has some incentive. The actual ‘winner’ of the season should not be a big deal since that is decided usually in the first match up (as we have seen in every league in NA or EU because winning is based on PPT coverage – the fundamental problem with a ‘season’ concept).

But 7-weeks is far too long. ‘Seasons’ need to be much shorter. 3-4 weeks should be the maximum. And then take a month off in-between.

The biggest issue with a 2nd season is it encourages server transfers (and with that costing gems, just an educated guess, season 2 IS going to happen even though it destroys what little server community there is for many lower population servers).

Overall, I enjoyed WvW season 1 since it added a slight competition element. But it is also plagued with player sabotage/trolling and that needs to be remedied prior to start of season 2 or it will leave the same bitter aftertaste. Player vote (24-hour timeout) on supply grab/use/commander flag/upgrade vendor/siege placement/siege use needs to happen if ANET support can’t handle the volume or does not have the coverage to handle. It’s time to empower the players.

As much fun it is to keep playing EB, BP, Kaineng and Maguuma all the time, this was a nice change in pace, I thought. More exposure to other worlds, and how they play.

Yes there should be season 2, if the league system was reworked more like the soccer World Cup: the same number of teams in each sub-group; everyone plays with each other once and there’s a better balance of repeat matches. Also, note how in the world cup, only citizens of that country are allowed to play, no transfers.

PS. I find it hilarious that I’m posting on a gaming forum with soccer references while being female. I think I’ll go home and watch Vampire Diaries or something to get myself in balance again.

See I think that is a brilliant idea. Only issue is top three NA and top two EU have reasonable 24 hour coverage. Everyone in EU would be fighting to avoid being that third EU server because nobody has comparable population. It’d be boring as heck for that last server.

Although after this week, and having faced both BG (was a while ago though) and Viz, I think it could be a more competitive match than I predicted in another thread a while back. I’d actually would love to see a Viz/BG/SFR or Viz/BG/JQ match. I think it would be something.

I have had some fun and some bad times. If SF was easily winning our numbers increased because of pve players looking for a profitable train but I found it boring. To counter that if it was the opposite and we were losing you would be lucky to not be outnumbered on 3 maps until our servers prime time.

It was 7 weeks of getting rolled. By week 5 we had lost most players and by week 6 we were outnumbered at reset.. It was so demoralizing nobody even showed up at reset. We didn’t even have our usual queue on EB. We were behind by like 40k points in the first night.

Anet needs to stop encouraging bandwagon server jumping and balance the game mode.

I wvw a couple hours a night to wrap up the day. Before leagues, queue was never an issue except for reset nights. My wvw playtime dropped 75% during league because of queues.

it was a good idea in theory, concerning variety of matches, but in practice it failed horribly due to population imbalances, leagues were just too big.
