Let’s face it, upleveled characters are prime targets for classes like thieves that try to pick off squishy targets. This mechanic is fine, but it would be nice if enemies weren’t shown who was upleveled, so they wouldn’t be able to spot and pick on newer players. Just removing the green arrow would be enough to remove certainty. While gear can make an uplevel noticeable (based on skins) it is far from a sure bet and would make it trickier for roamers to spot and aim uplevels, removing some frustration for these uplevels who are consistently targeted.

If an uplevel is smart they’ll know this and purposefully try to make their characters as tough or annoying to kill as possible. I leveled 5 characters predominately through WvW this way and was often picked out of the group with my green arrow but I offered no free meals.

In certain circumstances, like being upleveled, we need to play smarter.

Green arrows needs to go and we need a WvW player rank tracker for allies. So remove the arrow and replace character level number for WvW player rank in WvW.

I target whoever is the most out of position, doesn’t matter if they are up-leveled or not, they will go down just as quick.

Uplevels can just as easily use this to their advantage as bait. Many people see an upleveled person and get tunnel vision and don’t notice the friends that were hiding on the other side of the hill.

I hate it when I’m leveling my alt and I run across an 80. I’m dead meat, then they /laugh on me

In group fights though, people still tend to target the upleveled, which I don’t understand. They do little damage. I always go for the ones that do the most damage(biggest threat) and save the tankies/low dps for last.

Pretty much this. Experienced players will use their own green arrow to their advantage, especially in group fights. Enemies tend to get tunnel-vision when they see a green arrow, so it makes for such a sweet trap when they find out that the green arrow is actually tanky and has tons of cc’s to lock them down while the teammates get easy kills.

Or you’re in a solo/small group fight and manage to down the other players, but then up-leveled players on your team run in and get themselves killed giving out free rallies to the enemies and allowing them to kill you. This has happened to me so much at this point that when up-leveled run into small group fights I just stay back and let them all get slaughtered first before engaging.

If that goes out, the first thing I will do is get my toughest character and transmute him into Level 1-looking gear. Everyone will think I am an upleveled newbie and everyone will take me as a prime target. Then good luck punching through my 3.5k armor and 28k HP. Then I will transmute my lvl 80 Thief in L1 gear, and finally, my Warrior.

I think things are ok as they are. In the end, WvWvW is a place for high-level toons, once they can make a difference. I personally admire people who show up upleveled, I have done it plenty of times, as those people care about the server and don’t mind being killed. Or, well, just wish a lot of quick levels. Either way they help.

People who brag about that just hurt the community. Everyone knows that killing a lowbie isn’t that big of a feat. They own ego is their undoing, so… Why care what such a player has to say? It is already obvious what he/she represents.

You don’t make a good story if you say you’ve killed 200 upleved characters in one day… There are better stories around, just read through the server battle topics.

If you see 2 and one had green arrow, down the 80 first. The upleveled would usually stick around in hope of free xp, and sometime try to rez the 80 when realized he was kittened.

The upscaled arrow is a good thing, most of the time it makes an easy kill for the predator.. you can’t say you’ve never focused a ‘green arrow’ player OP.
Also it gives the upscaled guy a little baptism by fire of WvW, making them a better player in the end.

Due to silly stat scaling these upleveld chars can be quite hard to kill. I remember when my Ranger was lv6 or something. Went in WvW and the few stats on my gear got me upleveld to 25k health. Sure my damage was rubish, 500crits on autoattack. But my health and armor were pretty high.

Also it gives the upscaled guy a little baptism by fire of WvW, making them a better player in the end.

Actually I can say I haven’t, I only have one lvl 80 and rarely play them, I have pretty much always played WvW upleveled

You get targeted because you’re a free rally. Besides factors such as: positioning and geographic advantages rallies are a significant part of team fights. You being on a lowbie skews the rally factor out of your team’s favor.

This is an interesting idea. Had never considered the rationale behind showing enemies whether or not a character is uplevelled. I guess there’s no reason they SHOULD know, and it could make people generally more wary of just charging in if you’re not sure how many 80s you’re up against. Would be interested to see an experiment with this turned off to see what effect it has!

I’m not targeting thieves specifically, I know they receive a lot of hate in WvW because of their burst, I’m saying that roamers in general tend to target uplevels (I used thief as an example because they tend to roam), as roamers tend to see smaller fights where the level of each character makes more difference.

Oh… well whenever I see someone on their own I try to duel them, don’t look at thier arrow. If I can down them in 10-30 secs is when I realize it was an up leveled char. I don’t think it would change anything if the arrow got removed.

In 1vs2, 2vs3 or something like that, you wanna get rid of people fast and you go for the upleveled first, why? Because they can provide boons to their allies, CC you, apply conditions and most important, res their allies.
So maybe their dps isn’t great, but if you can’t get stomps you can’t win the fight, simple as that.

Another important factor is their downed state. Not every class is as easy/hard to stomp and if you wanna win a fight against bigger numbers that’s a big deal to take into account.

Don’t talk to me about toughness and vitality, damage avoidance is all in this game
