Sides - Red, green, blue- Not random anymore?

They have never been fully random. In fact, the highest glicko rated world in a matchup tends to be green, and the lowest will most likely be red.

It’s because of WvW Season 2. Matches are determined by the amounts of points your server has. Points are scored 5 for 1st 3 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd. So if your sever is losing constantly then your points are not accumulating high enough to move to the blue color. When Season 2 is over matches will go back to the system they put in place a few months ago, basing match on your overall Score (Can’t think what it’s actually called, but you can view it on mos.millenium.com), and it uses a formula to place with with other servers close to your score for more even matches.
Not fully random? That seems rather unfortunate. I always thought it would be. Still, no change at all for the last 4 weeks is very unfortunate.
Plus I’m pretty sure we’ve switched sides before, even if we were constantly losing. I think having 7 weeks of the same place meaning 7 weeks the same color is rather bad for those who want map completion and such. Since this was already like that, I recall they changed it to be completely random what color your server would get. I might be mistaken though.

Out of season it’s random. However during season the server with the most points is green, second is blue and third is red.
It has never been fully random. In out-of-tournament play, server ratings are tweaked by a small random amount, resulting in a slightly randomized ranking. Colors are assigned using those rankings.
So if there’s a big ratings gap between your server and its neighbors, there’s a big chance it stays the same color week after week.
Unfortunate that weakest is red. I’ve never understood the reasoning behind that. Anz/Mend are very difficult to hold when outnumbered. OW/Overlook will also be constantly treb’d from SM. And since red is the weakest server, they usually have no shot of capping SM.
On the flip side, green corner is probably the easiest to defend with trebs/mortars. Even WC can be defended by keep trebs. This forces enemy servers to cata green’s outer towers, making them that much easier to defend. And since green belongs to strongest server, it’s unlikely enemies will be attacking Lowlands anyway.
during seasonal tournament play, there is no randomness at all. matchups are determined purely on the basis of tournament points, with rating being used to break ties.
during the off-season, there is some randomness added. this is done to prevent stale matchups, but as a side effect it also affects colors. colors for servers that have exactly the same rating will be effectively random, but the farther apart the ratings are, the less likely the randomness is to change the color from the ‘expected’ one.

Green have so small and tight corner to def and easy towers to cap next to it dunno why winners get the easy corner all the time >.<

Red has the incredible bunker corner of overlook, ogrewatch, pangloss, and veloka. While the left side of the red area is definitely very weak, the right side is basically an impossible nut to crack as long as it’s defended properly.
Well, season is over. And we’re still red.
Personally, regardless of the strength of each side, the whole color distribution needs to be random. Like the flip of a coin at the start of a match at football (soccer for you americans). I don’t see why it’s needed to have the same color for over 2 months, just because you are a certain level.
WvW, to me, is as stale as it can get. I don’t care whether you win, or you lose, or you were second last match. There needs to be some change of the battle field, and a fresh match needs to be as such. It could be the map is slightly imbalanced to one side or that different tactics are needed. But surely that can be adapted to, so you would be able to show your server’s true strength.
So I’d like to make this into a suggestion that the color distribution is random. No half random, just fully random.

Erik: I doubt Underworld will ever be another colour than red, if you guys don’t suddenly get the core of a WvW server to transfer…
I know, I know…it sucks kitten .
But you know, ArenaNet screws up all the time when it comes to WvW. I’m getting used to it.

Jade Quarry was Blue for the last 4 weeks of the tournament, someone is feeding you bad info. It’s just bad RNG as far as i can tell.

I think that during those last 4 weeks, JQ was blue because :
-It had less tournament points than TC
-When they had the same amounts, TC had more ratings.
Yes, there is nothing mystical about the way this works. For each matchup the highest “rated” server is green, the 2nd blue, the 3rd red. It has always been this way.
During the tournament your “rating” for this purpose, was your points score or, if points were equal, your glicko rating. Now the tournament is over your rating is simply your glicko rating. Each week the glicko rating is randomised slightly to mix up the match ups and it is this randomised rating that is used to determine your color, so if you are close enough to your neighbours in rating that your relative position in each matchup changes, so will your color. If, for example, you are firmly rooted at the top or bottom of the table even after glicko has been randomised then you will always be green/red.
