Siege Grandmaster's Guide - TY ANET!!!
I know right? It’s kind of like posting the mini: zuzu cat of darkness for halloween for 20 candy corn cobblers. its really nice of them to add quality of life changes like this. I mean we could just buy it off the TP for 1 gold and save 25 gold….but anet is improving quality of life so its great.
TL:DR: its cheaper to buy superior siege off the Tp than it is to create them. Also factor in that you are wasting time. Also factor in you are wasting spirit shards that could instead be used to create a ton of lodestones and sell at a huge profit on the TP.
I mean i guess we should thank them for still allowing us to buy basic siege for so few laurels while were at it….
everything wonderful they do is flying under the radar! its so unjust and unfair!
There, i ruined everything.

It’s still “cheaper” to craft them although their price has fallen a lot (from ~28 to 15/16s) buying everything off TP is at around 13,5 silver (depending rams, didn’t look up the prices of other blueprints).
Lodestones are crafted with stuff bought with Laurels, not Spirit Shards. You can make T6 mats out of T5 with Spirit Shards though, yes.

And yes, this is a nice QoL change, even though it might not make much sense to craft siege anymore right now. But times may change.
What are you talking about Cerby … I dropped 1200 badges for 100 cata prints, bought 250 wood and ore, and bought 2 of those books. It cost me a total of about 5g for 50 sup rams? Pretty sure if I buy 50 on the TP flat out it’s around 10-12g depending on the day and price.
I’m just saying thank god I don’t have to make them one at a time. Because that was not very good design for a commodity that you go through very fast.
For the record, badges, useless currency can be used now. Spirit shards… are overflowing in abundance. No matter how many I spend, in a week I always seem to be floating around 150-200. Wasting my time… to make those 50 it cost me 2 mystic forge attempts, what’s that about 10 seconds? Sure going to miss those 10 seconds of my life.
I am really happy about this as well! Thank you Arenanet! It saves so much time!
Inb4 wood and ore prices rise until this is no longer good

I don’t know what u mean by spirit shards aren’t used to create lodestones….look at the wiki and tell me I’m wrong.

OKay maybe prices changed since I looked a month ago….and a month before that….and a month before that.
Badges can be converted into a monetary value though don’t forget.
Why don’t we go on a magical little math journey here and have a look again:
bear with my since im not using a calculator
Buy orders have always filled in a timely manner for this stuff so we’ll be using those when they lower the costs, and we’ll be using sell orders when they make us more money, and TP values from gw2 shinies.
OKAY LETS DO THISSS!!
OKay 1 superior catapult lets look at: 17.02 (silver) to buy
2 catapult blueprints: 4.28×2=8.56
elder wood: 1.90×5=9.5
mithril: 0.41×5= 2.05
20.11 silver to craft from TP buy orders +wasting 1 spirit shard. 17.02 to buy from a TP buy order.
OKAY LOOKS LIKE ITS CHEAPER TO BUY THEM THAN CRAFT.
Let’s look at using badges now to offset the cost (if it does):
24 badges of honour for 2 cats
badge of tribute 31.77 sold for…take off 15%….27silver basically. they cost 30 badges though
so 27divided by 30 = 0.9/badge
4.28 (catapult cost) divided by 12 = 0.36/badge
So what does that calculation mean? well its telling me that creating/selling badges of tribute nets 0.9 silver per badge. Whereas buying normal catapults nets me 0.36 silver per badge.
So you are losing money by crafting them normally.
And you are still losing money by crafting them with the offset cost of badges:
SINCE 0.9X24=21.6silver you could have made off of those 24 badges you instead spent on 2 basic catapults….lolol….2 catapults u could buy for 8.56silver
Are you saving money by using badges than crafting normally? WHO CARES! You are still losing money if you are. You can calculate the difference between badge and normal with a simply calculation urself and post it on ur fridge.
Its not my intention to be rude towards you Hexinx….just other people. Thankyou for allowing us to have this conversation so EVERYONE is 100% clear on things.

So actually….ya I think my original post was 100% correct. Making your post 100% wrong in the process.
How dare you imply that I was wrong without thinking this through.

badge of tributes are the best way to convert badges to gold

Yeah true, Mystic crystal.. If you have enough Laurels for the binding agent or enough gold for the Elonian wine.
I actually don’t really get what your mission is: “QoL change I’m gonna puke against it!!” Well, ok then
The funny thing about this post is that you just informed me and many other wvw guys with 40’000+ badges on how to make them into money. Let’s see how fast the price can drop and how long your calculations are true..
Yea catas are probably not the best thing to manually forge because even basic catas are so expensive regardless of badge or tp. Buying regular siege with badges is probably bad because of Badges of Tribute conversion.
But what if you buy those cheap flame ram or ballista blueprints off the tp and change them to superior ones?
Though for the most part I think Cerby is right. https://www.gw2shinies.com/alchemy means that it’s almost always more efficient to use your spirit shards to make something else and then use the profits to buy the siege and the same applies to getting badges of tribute and selling as such. However, if you use a TON of siege, it’s entirely possible that you don’t have enough provisioner tokens and need siege on the fly, without having the time to liquidate all your investments before all your server’s stuff gets lost. Then I suppose you could break out the mystic forge conduit and make more siege.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

I already took that as my example but have been called wrong, so I guess Cerby just wants to believe that this QoL change is all bad and a complete hoax.
ETA: Because the siege you buy off the TP just produces itself, no one has got to do anything for it, right? (at some points there might be too many proofs of heroics, yes).

I imagine a lot of people just monetize their heroics by selling superior siege, but yes people have to make it to sell it though the prices are still the prices.
It really depends on what you want.
Spirit shard conversion, much like karma, is tedious regardless of method used. And yes there’s some ways to get some really good value out of them but the methods can be very tedious and boring. So being able to do something faster while getting less value of it can be a good thing. Individually crafting them I just saw as a waste of time, but being about to bulk produce them on a dime has to be useful somewhere. It’s like the provisioner— a lot of the food is cheaper to get off the TP but maybe you just don’t want to fiddle around and get some food immediately.
And you definitely want to use buy orders on the TP and wait a bit so you get the lowest prices possible but a lot of people don’t want to wait like that. But then some will argue that you shouldn’t just outbid the highest buyer, but put it lower because you’ll inevitably get it anyways. I don’t do that due to a lack of patience, and this can go on forever.
It’s a good precedent nonetheless since convenience at a premium has always been part of this game.

Wouldn’t hold ur breath.
Also can I at least get a thankyou?
I post something pleasant and nice, and help some1 out of the ‘goodness’ of my heart. I’m called a fool and a liar. I go out of my way to educate in the face of persecution cause my heart is just so big and kind. And now I’m just called a troll and a fool. THANKS!
This is why nice people use so much sarcasm.
