K so this 30 minute timer applies no matter where the siege is or what siege weapon it is?

I don’t believe that mortars, cannons, and oil pots have timers (because players do not place them). But other than that, all other siege has an internal timer attached to it that can be refreshed by using it. So it’s a good idea to quickly use some siege on your keep when you respawn if you don’t have anything specific to be.

It’s supposed to be 30 minutes, and that seems to apply most of the time.
However.. some people have done tests that indicate otherwise. So there may be other variables that we don’t know about.

Golems and trebs will despawn faster than 30 minutes with the latest patch.
Golems have been reported to despawn as fast as 10 minutes of inactivity. I have not witnessed this, but we no longer leave golems unattended. We now have golem minders that “tend” to them like sheep. They hop into, punch them, and hop out in rotation. When you have 20-30 of them across four maps… they are simply too expensive of a shared investment to risk.
I’ve seen trebs despawn in 20 minutes of inactivity since the recent patch. At 100 supply they are as expensive as golems (in terms of supply), but oddly because they don’t cross that 1g psychological barrier people don’t seem to mind that they go poof as much <boggle>. Given that they have so very little stamina and fire rate… the abacus says, their bang for buck hurts all the more when they are lost.
Are there plans to change the timers on siege equipment? Changes just happened… the times were decreased.
[ed- now, I do like juicy rumor… and this one I thought was good: “there is discussion to make siege persistent across flips (change ownership)” I personally don’t think it will ever happen. I think it is/was a wishful thinking rumor. The concept cuts into the gold sink that is siege. But I thought it was flirtatiously amusing… so I share.]

I think there is no despawn timer on siege weapons except trebs and golems, that was changed since the wiki days and some Anet guys – that don’t even play WvW or GW2 it seems – continued saying that
Defensive siege stays indefinitely inside a keep, and I’m pretty sure the isn’t a wacko refreshing the timers every 30 minutes (and on the siege built in remote locations). Not to mention the allmighty flame rams

Siege DOES expire and yes, we are refreshing the siege every 30 minutes. If you see siege, refresh it! especially the sneakily located ones.
