Background: I have been away from gw2 for 2 years and came back a few weeks before HoT specifically because new borderlands were coming to WvW. I love WvW and I love gw2 and want to give some constructive feedback instead of complaining. A lack of variety in maps is what burned my guild out, so I am excited to play this new map extensively.

Here are my ideas to fix the problems I currently have with the map, primarily addressing navigating, especially as a solo roamer:

  • Rebrand Towers to Watchtowers, remove barricades and replace them with something that triggers the Marked buff instead.
  • Change all sentries to NPCs (Chronomancers?) that when claimed provide something (like a well) you can run through that gives nonstacking Superspeed(30s), so that controlling them allows for faster travel around the map.
  • Change autoupgrade, just make them free upgrades that a player has to select so that we can still participate and whole maps aren’t fully upgraded without any attention from the controlling team.
  • Tie upgrade times closer with Yaks, if no Yaks make it to the structure at all, the upgrade should never complete.
  • Make Waypoints one of the later upgrades for all the keeps and never a default thing.
  • Change the Earth Turrets that cripple, make them something that provides some limited Stability or Protection to the team that controls them instead.
  • Change the Wind Turrets that knockback, make them provide a large amount of Swiftness(60s) and some Fury to the team that controls them instead.
  • Make limited gliding available only over the oasis in the center of the map and from the cliffs surrounding the center of the map, make it an ability we can spend ability points on to increase the duration/speed we glide.
  • Make the lava deep enough to jump into from that hole in the desert area above the West Keep without dying to fall damage.
  • Change the reset time, resetting on Saturday night means that, most weeks, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be meaningless in terms of PPT. If you don’t want to revert reset back to Fridays, make it Thursday so that the most important days become Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • Change the middle event to only require 10 power cores to complete, or change the mobs we have to kill to something far less tedious.
  • Make it so we can use our skills while carrying a power core.
  • Remove the marked buff that is placed on enemies inside of a keep when it is captured, or at least make it last significantly less time than it currently does.

An easy “fix” is to make all classes run 25% faster on that map. Not just with a shrine buff but show up on the map, players move a lot faster. That would help immensely.

My second suggestion would be add gliders and glider masteries into the map.

Those two things would bring a lot more players into the map.

I mean gliding has to be limited or you could just bypass gates and walls, but, I agree, the main problems I have are with travel.

Just moving 25% faster doesn’t make barricades stop punishing roamers disproportionately compared to zergs though, or make autoupgrades more interactive. I think making sentries movespeed buffers gives roamers and scouts more ways to contribute to maps overall, and could allow for some more dynamic encounters where groups can outmaneuver other groups thanks to a small amount of area control. And removing the debuffs and making them buffs makes them more about rewards and less about frustration.

I don’t think speed and gliders will fix the map but they would make the maps more accessible.

As for gliders going into tower/keeps that is a relatively easy fix by having guards shoot them down before they get close. Sort of like the legendary automated defense system at map entry points.

I like the relation between yaks and upgrades suggestion.

Rework and remove some of the twisted switchbackery that plagues the map. Rethink aspects or all of the center map event. Reconsider the gimmicky features that shrines provide, especially the 3rd ones. And revamp the map to better communicate paths and traversable landscapes. Nothing worse than walking a lengthy route that looks legit on the map only to find it leads to an unresolvable obstacle.
