Pretty basic, allow Commanders to send out server wide messages to rally troops. This could make a huge difference to servers that are struggling to hold keeps.

Obviously put a limit on the amount of messages sent per hour perhaps, or some other limitation to prevent spamming.

I’d also like the ability to actually message people in from WvW to get people to come. Hard to let people know about something when you can’t message your guild members when they are not reping to come help out..

I think it would be a bonus for the game if this were implemented, all those PVE commanders sat in queendale sending out server wide recruitment messages.

well, i hope you are not gonna spam server wide chat with your commander tag. 1 or 2 message/day might be enough, dnt u think?

Maybe put an alert button crystal on keeps that only commanders can hit with a reasonable cooldown that pops an alert message?

Just make it a commander “channel” that I can turn on or off easily.

If a commander abuses it people could use the block feature. But sure its still an inconvenience if many commanders start using it to server wide chat or something.

Guess what, ANet doesn’t care.

I don’t think too many PvE players will care to help in WvW tbh (tried asking before, got a lot of negative responses, some were outright… unrepeatable on this forum, only a few were sympathetic, but still unwilling). WvW players should already be in your server’s VOIP so you can ask there.

I think ANet needs to do more to get people into WvW to be honest. Perhaps removing badges from achievement chests and raising the requirement to get Gift of Battle to 5000 badges.

A server can be rallied especially if there’s a bit battle about to occur. I’ve seen it happen but it took a lot of players having to spam map chat in the most populated locations.

I’d like the option where you can whisper your whole guild list or friend list.

I currently have most of my server’s EU-early NA players on my friend list, and I have to mass whisper people one by one to rally.

Thats about 30-50+ pm’s everyday lol x.x

Why not also have any WvW commander linked by friend list to every other (serious) WvW commander. That way the whole thing can be relayed across the server..

Seems to me the tools are there if the server gets organised..

Cause some people represent other guilds and some guilds are there just for organisation’s purpose…

Guild commanders may not always be on but guild members might be.

A server wide rally call could reach everyone in one hit. The tool isn’t there yet.

I agree it would be usefull… if allowing a commander to write something to all server is complicated and trolls would love that… maybe at least allow us to have a chat tab to see wvw chat even when we are not inside it.

gold spammers dont have badges cuz badges are earned… pve commanders dont have badges to waste on this cuz they need all theirs for their legendaries… and it gives wvw players a way to get people from maps not named lions arch.

wouldnt be any worse than those silly scarlet notifications once people get over it and use all their badges in the first week its available.

Gold seller, for 100g announce your services to the entire server a few times before getting banned.

Other MMO games have gem store items to send messages accross the server. Usually used for guild recruiting or trolling. If its an own channel you can turn on and off its ok I guess.

I would like to see that /t worked across all borders instead of beeing a backup for /m when you become suppressed. That could help wvw communication alot.

One way to really cut back on abuse would be to only allow the chat to open up when you have outmanned buff in home BL or EB. It could even be an automated message: “You are greatly outnumbered in your home borderlands! Rally to defend!” Or something along those lines… Of course, it would only be available to natives of that server, not guesting friends.. and perhaps only in towns. I have the feeling people champ training in Queensdale don’t give two shakes of a lambs tail about the situation in home BL. We already get obnoxious yellow text- Scarlet’s Minons are attacking in Fireheart Rise! as if any of us WvWers care about that… so it’s not like they can’t live through some gray text in chat or something.

I rarely have over 500, but then again I buy most of my siege with badge, as well as liquid wxp (bought 110 levels with badges/laurels so far).

+ Hard to abuse
+ Tagging up and having a squad would mean something

- Some guild commander tag up only to show the guild’s position – especially at prime and on ennemies’ BL on my server.
- Does not give an indication of the purpose for tagging – in multi tagging setting (havoc, defense, offense, multi-map, etc.)
- Some commander’s formation are with a small group, which allows the learner to get used to manage supply, read the map, etc. with players that know that that commander is learning, so they are more understanding than the average pug. They do tag, sometimes, but don’t want to become “the main bus”.

Solution :
Maybe just have an option to manually add the squad to the lfg tool?
Would allow the commander to state its purpose and people to know what they join, without imposing to commanders to be on LFG…

i too have bought some 80-90 ranks… and geared up multiple alts in exotics, and bought hundreds of rams with badges, and 2 gifts of battle… and still i play wvw, and still i gain badges, and now i have like 5k. and as a commander who depends on working with whatever resources are available and not a regular raid leader, such a feature would be amazing!

the game really needs this kind of resource sink. hell, make it 200 or 300 badges. its infinitely reusable, highly desirable, and works to keep badge devaluation/accumulation in line.

i wish we could think of such a thing to sink gold. the tp tax isnt doing enough to burn off the extra gold we now generate in pve, but with all the tp moguls that exist… i dont really have any ideas that would be large enough scale.

If they were canned messages and each character had to enable to see them then Anet may allow this.

Maybe you could buy a one-time use “legendary warhorn” with badges that would only be able to be used through the commander squad UI.

Hey, I’m just stating my opinion on how easily abused such a feature would be. You’d have a lot more credibility if you were an actual Anet employee making a statement of fact about customer abuse handling rather than just guessing at what is done with reported messages. Rather evident from your response that you really have no idea what messaging abuse departments deal with, how stuff gets scripted due to volume and how false-positives are dealt with after the fact, usually on appeal.

Or from the other angle, how many spam messages get through due to being too lenient (yes, even with a throttle) with reports.

In another wvw game, only 4 persons from guilds with a high rank could do server wide broadcasts over pve and rvr areas. It worked extremely well for rvr field coordination through 3 maps. It also serve to alert people in PvE that a fortress was under attack.

Anet had a plan for something like this way back when in 2011. They called it a “megaphone”(iirc) and it was supposed to be able to send server wide messages, they even told us that it would have a long cooldown to avoid spam with the obvious cost of having to buy them. What actually happened to this idea i don’t know, but something along these lines would be very handy for things.
