t4 servers have a high chance of being bumped up to t3 for a week and matched up with one of the 4 t2 servers which blob a lot, so t3/4 is kinda messy atm. You might want to consider a bronze server, there are a lot of havok/roaming groups and less blobs, not that it doesnt happen, just less then in the higher tiers, and usually no queues

I say what needs to be said, get used to it.

(Full disclosure, I currently play on Dragonbrand)

I highly recommend checking out T3/T4 servers like DB/DH/Mag/NSP/SBI. The whole “4 T2 servers” situation of the past two months has all but resolved itself. There’s a lot of fat to be trimmed from bandwagon servers like Dragonbrand and especially Maguuma, so I think your guild might have a great time playing on SBI.

AR has a ton of 3-5 man roaming groups and you can usually find some good small group action in the BL’s. EBG tends to be a bit zergy, especially during prime time but you can still get in some bag farming there.

A lot of the time we won’t have a tag up anywhere on the map but as soon as a zerg tries to push our tower a bunch of roaming groups converge on it picking them off from all sides. It’s kind of hilarious to watch guild groups try to push and not be able to hit anything but a roamer or 2, meanwhile their back line is getting ripped apart.

I’d recommend dh for your guild.

move to EU T1-4. Varied matchup, coverage.
Blobs during NA time – yes, sometimes
Roaming during NA time – most of the time

best servers to choose>
Far Shiverpeaks
Seafarers Rest
Desolation
Gandara

These are all international servers and have mostly, english speaking players. Good communities, varied class spread.

Pros of EU>
More varied in terms of classes, builds and strategies. Sure they still do run the meta, but people are less condescending towards unpopular builds and classes, IN GENERAL, then in NA. Ive spent a lot of time in NA and this goes for both T1 and T3 NA. T2 NA, i have not played there, but i cannot imagine it to be any better then the rest in terms of attitude.

You may learn a new language, or bits of one.

Player claim there will be lag, and that is a blunt lie. In the most cases there will not be any notable lag, however SERVER LAG WILL BE ENHANCED. So blobfests will be more laggy for a NA player then EU. But normal day to day latency is pretty much the same. I personally never had any real issues playing on NA while in EU, and on my recent trip to the US i had no probs logging in in the US and play at a EU server.
If you have bad ping, you may get latency issues, in that case, bad ping is bad no matter where you play, you should get a standalone network card rather then rely on the network connection on your motherboard. In most cases that will resolve the issue. Ping lag is more often then not, a hardware related issue, either on the players end, the players Router or the ISP.

Cons of EU>
Lots of players speaking a language you probably do not understand

NA coverage can be horrible at some servers leading to some really hard times during weekends. On the flip side, roaming gets better cuz you can flip things much faster.

I agree with this post.

In my personal opinion these EU kitten servers have the highest quality roamers:
Kodash (German)
Desolation (International )
Gandara (International)

Piken Square has been disappointing in roaming (old reputation is no longer deserved). I won’t go into details, but you can chat me in game as long as the conversation is friendly and polite. Enemies tend to misunderstand me in game, blaming me of blobbing even when I wasn’t at that time commanding. And yes, I do solo roam and I am rarely in any party, but if I see too many enemies I cannot handle, I will call for help (you can call this blobbing ).

Roamers on FSP/SFR are very often geared towards the opportunistic builds/compositions (easy win) e.g. running multiple thief ganking squads (P/D perplexity condi + D/P perma stealth) and the zerging is very much prevalent.

The higher the rank, the better coverage the server has = players outside prime time as well. High ranked servers have activity 24h7, especially on Desolation which tends to be double focused in most of the match ups. If you don’t want to be under constant pressure, consider other servers.

Stop. You’re making me cry. As an IoJ newbie to WvW (now going through my third match), I am a very sad and confused player. I don’t know if it has always been this way on IoJ or if everyone just deserted the Mists because they’re so demoralized by matches like the Maguuma roflstomp last week, but I rarely see any IoJ either. I really thought that this week would be a good, tight match: neck and neck and neck. Instead I see neck and neck and crickets, with an occasional lonely voice calling out “Hello? Is there anyone in this map?” Most of the time I feel like a wintery Robinson Crusoe, hoping to find a footprint in the snow somewhere.

Really appreciate the thoughtful responses. Going to mull this over with the group.

I’ve always wanted to try EU but that might have to wait for another 75% off sale. And sPVP is a no go; capture the point is crazy boring (imo of course).

Thanks!

Haha, I find it funny that you say this since I think (I play 75% PvP and 25% WvW Roaming) that endlessly running round and getting ganked/zerged is less fun. IMO there are just more frequent fight in PvP, but yes, the points also play a role.

While I am on t2. From my experience. If you do go t3, take a hard look at sbi. Man that server is not afraid to fight the t2 blobs in open field, and I am not kidding, this sever has some great fighters. They owned us more than once. (I am on FA).

They put up a much better fight than some of the t2 severs and can really hold there own. If they had the numbers, they would own t2 no problem.

I would either say t3/4 or t7/8. All the ive small grouped in every tier, al be it some of them were long ago, and I can firmly say that t4/5 offers some of the highest skill, but low tier is SO much fun. Other than the few hours no one is on, being a good small group on low tiers is a blast because the 15 man Zergs are easy to pick on, and the top roamer a are pretty skilled
You transferred off of FC, which is a surprise as they have good roaming groups, maybe you would like fighting them better than with them as they are very fun to fight against.
If you are looking to improve and you don’t like low tier or t2+, go t4/5. The roaming there is fun and builds some strategy with dealing with zerg branch-offs and defending as well as there are a lot of people

Player claim there will be lag, and that is a blunt lie.

Nonsense, for players too bad to notice there is no difference, for a decent player it is noticeable that you have less time to react to dodge / interrupt opponents skills, etc.

Or do you think games have regional data centres for the joy of the extra expense?

In my personal opinion these EU kitten servers have the highest quality roamers:
Kodash (German)
Desolation (International )
Gandara (International)

LOL, Kodash used to be good, but these days they are in a pretty sad state, players from BUKA and the like hanging at spawn ganking people in zerg builds 3+ v 1.

Deso used to be the most fun server to roam against, long, long ago when lots of PvP guys like TP used to roam, but for a very long time it has been like SFR, groups that like to 5v1 guy across the map and run as soon as they start losing, also Deso is generally pretty poor for adding, again exactly like SFR

For Gandara, TCHU (or however you spell it) are still decent and generally behave properly, but that is offset by possibly the scrubbiest roaming guilds in the EU like EDGE and CROW who are often perma locked to people’s spawns, & loads of thieves, yawn.

Frankly roaming is much better lower down, there is less 5v1 ganking, better etiquette (not just from roamers but from other players), etc.

But then I guess really roaming is pretty bad full stop in GW2, other than the small maps, this is not a good game for small scale / roaming, it was great the first 10 months or so, but that was it.

I don’t really understand why you would transfer to the T2 server that has the most roamers. You should have transferred to SoS or YB.

I agree with the guy that said low tiers are a lot of fun. If you play during prime-time that is and don’t really care about where your server fits in the rankings. Off hours can be torture though in the low tiers so keep that in mind.

T4/5 have very skilled players and a good mix of solo roaming havoc, zerging, and guild groups. I personally play on Ehmry Bay and we have 4-5 havoc guilds that run 3-6 people during NA prime-time. The downside to Ehmry Bay for sure though is our EU coverage. A 3 man havoc or roaming squad during EU hours (or any addition for that matter) would do way more for us than it would for some others.

Henge of Denravi are some classy folks so I would also recommend them as a destination. Those I have talked to there are great individuals and I have had some great fights from them during EU hours.

Crystal Desert has a singular massive blob that runs during the EU timezone which is fun to fight but only if you can get 10 of them away from the 40+ group. The EU presence in T5 NA at least is lacking.

During NA primetime all 3 of these servers are very similar.

The current T4 servers of IoJ, SBI, and NSP I can’t talk about much as we haven’t fought them in awhile.

Personally I would recommend one of the following 3 servers, Anvil Rock, Henge of Denravi, or Ehmry Bay.

When Josh asks Tyler about what there is for small groups in WvW, Tyler looks at him and you can see it, Tyler had no idea at first what he meant; “Small scale in WvW?!”, that’s what I got from that reaction.
