So. Stealth Trap.
A good lesson to learn early in life is that other people will always make mistakes and have big oversights in their designs The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.
Remember: N.A.S.A. forgot toilets on their first space craft. Hundreds of scientists and engineers all working on the project, using a toilet roughly twice a day, never stopped and thought “You know, this might be important on a spacecraft”.
I have never ever seen a stealth trap used and supply traps I see now and then with about a weeks time between each sighting.
So meh who cares.
I was feeling sleepy last night in WvW, so I ask my group ‘serious’ questions about stealth placement, as I had one from chest reward.
We all decided placing it on the arrow cart we had facing the tower was ideal.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

nice!
Oh thanks for the info. The next time i see someone use that I’ll just use signet of shadows and laugh.

they need to change them so they’re deployed instantaneously rather than taking 4 seconds to set up. there should also be no animation when deploying it. just a sneaky thing you drop and then it gets activated.

If you’re using it to fight Thieves one on one you’re misusing it.

With the latest patch you get badges so fast that it should really not be a problem at all. The more strategic ways to use it would be against perma-stealthing zergs and on a rare occasion, a thief.

Indeed, so easy for a PvE player to get a gift of battle now, but a WvW player still needs to do dungeons for Gifts. I would have loved the choice to get dungeon tokens for Gift of the Noble instead of more Badges of Honor.
Stealth traps are better used to counter mesmers veiling a zerg, it’s not ideal to use it against a roaming Thief. Drop them at walls that regularly get sieged (NE bay) or inside tower/keep gates.
I actually have only used stealth traps on rare occassions when a thief is running around perma stealth in a keep and there’s still a dead mesmer in the lord’s room.
I have, on occassion, surprised a doly ganking thief by dropping it at the entrance to vale at the choke though

That is actually a useful spot. I have dropped them at the door way to the north BL camps, so that when a thief tries to stealth by, boom. Aggro.
I try to make sure that the thieves will be knee deep in NPCs unexpectedly when they decloak. I am sad that I don’t ever get to see the results of this… but it is fun none the less.
