So, burning oil...
I whole heartily agree, as of right now 1 catapult behind a gate works magnitudes better than a burning oil pot. I think burning oil rigs should have a kittenpit where the user can fall into, away from damage while still being able to use the oil.
Either that or make it so the oil rig itself covers a larger area perpendicular to gate, so that the oil rig users aren’t in range of EVERY SINGLE AOE in the game, its quite near impossible to use the rigs if there’s even a small amount of focus on them right now.

I agree that oil is mostly useless in its current state.
I think I would actually just make the oil itself invulnerable, but make it do less damage to rams. That way the defenders can always risk running up to it to do a pour and you have to be on guard against this to bomb them off of it quick.
Or maybe just move the oil to the INNER side of the door — it’s something you don’t use until the door is busted open. Then you can drop it to put a serious hurting on people running in, and maybe tip the scales in your team’s favor if you have some defenders on hand.
As it is, the only real use of the oil is as a small additional buffer to door health. They have to kill the oil first. Unfortunately, in zerg conditions, this only takes a few seconds.

I and about 6 others had rams on the doors at Briar the other night. We had two aoe classes with us, the rest were guards, warriors, etc who didn’t seem to have or want to switch to range to take the oil out. One defender made effective use of that oil til his mates arrived. Probably only time I saw it in use.
I like to think of it as door HP.
Oil just delays the building of a RAM by a few moments. Nothing more, no less.
I can’t recall the last time I’ve actually seen it used as a weapon.
I took out ~8 golems attempting to rush the west BL keep the other day by finishing building the oil and torching them. It was beautiful.
In WAR the oil was overpowered. You’d kill hundreds of people all from a safe distance. Hard to balance I guess. As somebody else said, catapults basically do the job oil should be doing so it’s not a huge issue. Just kind of silly for it to exist at all at this point.
99% of the time burning oil is really useless, but that 1% of the time when you totally destroy an army of Omegas and Alphas because of a poorly designed golem rush is totally worth it.
