I’m just taking an impromptu poll here on one of the meta forms of zerg (more so 10-20 player) combat, on a term I’m coining:
“bubble wars”

Do you like them….or do you not like them? SImple question that I seek you to answer in this thread.

Now….
What the kitten do I mean by bubble wars? Well you know how classes, particularly guardians, have giant aoe domes/wells/shields/spherical things/walls that they can place to block all incoming ranged fire? And you know how classes, particularly guardians, have giant aoe cc abilities?

And you know what happens when you combine the two of these techniques en masses in a group against another group of players?
Its basically: your group becomes immune to ranged fire, due to placing 1 or more bubbles infront of urselves. And when the enemy closes into cleaving/melee range you activate heavy aoe cc pushing them out of attack range and back outside ur bubble. The combination of this with aoe heals and aoe rezzing abilities, and basic downed state shenanigans creates a fortress of solitude of sorts. Not to be mistaken with the shield wall: a bunch of tank/boon/healer guardians piling ontop of eachother in manly fashion.

So going back to my original question: Do people like this? Do people not like this? What kind of player are you, and why do you think you hold the opinions that you do?

I don’t think anyone “likes” a reflection/bubble meta, but it was a natural reaction to the ranged zergfight/“pirate-ship” meta that came about around expansion time. It doesn’t actually fix the problem, and actually reinforces it by discouraging melee contact because you can’t rush the enemy bubble when you know friendly covering fire won’t work.

It’s not fun, but it’s just a symptom and reaction to the real problem: the power creep of ranged attacks/condi meta that developed with the expansion, where the best bet is to just blast down or bleed out the enemy from afar.

This has much more to do with the code than what we would ‘want’ or ‘like’.

It is far, far easier to check a circular area for contact/hits than a square, triangle or other shape. Bubble metas are a by-product of this as checking collisions on other shaped areas would be difficult, requiring many more calculations to be made, and therefore slowing down your game.

Bubble wars would be awesome if skills would work. For example if shelter would be real shelter that would bring totally new tactical aspect in fighting. No idea why they even add skill that is named shelter and enemy can just walk inside stability on.

When they made the HoT classes I don’t think they spent a minute to think about WvW.

If they did they would have made new and interesting combo fields that would have redefined the WvW experience. Instead they just increased the amount of condi, ccs, healing and damage spikes for Raids and let the kittenstorm fall on WvW.

There is no hope for WvW until the next expansion is release. Even the whole 2016 year that was supposed to be focused around WvW post HoT’s launch has barely has been a huge disappointment. Barely anything got done at all, they just made bunch of polls to distract the community and delay everything until the next xpac.

Domes/walls, dont work against AoE(ground) skils, only against projectiles, stack most classes with AoE damage output that will ignore those walls and domes..

stack 5-15(deppending group size mixtured with water eles and druids) hammer ReV spamming cors (cor animation will be invisible for most and that alot of aoe that only choice is be dodged).
IF any guard blocks., next impact will make more damage due the rev trait, where this lands everyone melts.

Gw2 is all about AoE spam.

They didnt even think in pvp, they design classes by “oh this would be fun as in broken so kewl”, heavy damage and AoE gimmicks/spam are the base fundation where gw2 was built on.

Most ranged damage is ground targeted anyways. The bubbles can help a bit with pressure, but once you start fighting say, Blackgate, you will have a MUCH larger issue with the being outmanned, and completely outgunned by their condi-showers. I’ve shelved my Guardian when playing Blackgate because the conditions are just too extreme. So I camp Mallyx as Rev.

There is no hope for WvW until the next game that features a wvw style mode. The tap is dry, the river has run to dust. After stab kitten up-ery over a year ago dealing a “player leaving the game” sized blow of disappointment and then HoT literally dealing the exact same blow the players have been turned down and off, the only way to refresh that spirit is a whole new game of noobs.

Bubbles are annoying but constantly being outnumbered by 3x to 5x is what really spoils the fights. The 5 shield gens just add insult to injury and mark a lazy blob.

Bubble as you put it lines etc.. are means of temp player made environment adding an deeper combat in wvw. Now they all need to have a cap of 10 players.

This is another factor of the mitigation creep of HoT, not the power creep. Also, this has nothing to do with pirate ship at all. Pirate ship does not even exist as a thing; it can only exist in the universe that created it, which was because of the way old stab worked preventing frontlines from because able to close distance.

Can probably blame the introduction of break bars with the expansion for the increase in CC, which they obviously gave no thought on how that would affect the competitive/pvp side of the game.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on the next expansion to fix wvw either, or class balance and the power creep. Wvw will head down eotm way soon enough.

Yep, which is fine in PvE, OK in PvP but a pain in the kitten in WvW. And no, OP, I don’t like zerg fights in WvW at all.

Gw2 needs to envolve to a more clever skill usage system, that is what makes pvp games interesting.
For pvp / wvw and even pve, alot of aoe should be cleaves, and autos atacks mostly need to be single targeted, instead of cleaves.

for example taking 10 rangers 10 thiefs 5 ele 5 warriors
vs
any guardian + w/e bullkitten will always win.
some classes are just beyond useless in the zerg mode and tactics are non sense cus certain classes cant just storm into the zerg to make them self usefull

if thiefs could jump into middle of a zerg and still diss out dmg like they do now + survive they would be wanted.
if rangers would actually just hit the target they have selected and not each kittenface infront of em it might help them also.
