So, let's talk about "tagging" and "rewards".
I agree, and many people are going to come in here and say just because you’re support doesn’t mean you can’t dps or give in depth explanations why building as a support ele is not needed etc.
I’m often playing as a cc water bot too, the amount of time I can spend in fire attunement is very low especially when we’re outnumbered as a guild group, if lucky and movement dictates it I can get a Meteor Shower off, usually only one AA and Lava Font before switching.
Similarly on my support guardian, I get to tag but don’t apply large amounts of dps yet none of the healing and condition clearing I bring to my party helps me to earn much.

Unfortunately in many MMOs healing is an unsung hero. I don’t think pure healing builds are necessary in this game, but understand the problem and would certainly support a modification to include better rewards for these roles.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
If you’re in water attunement, then you can drop a water 2 and water 4 for quite a high amount of damage (my staff water 2 does between 2k-4k damage). If you’re in earth attunement, staff earth 2 also does a ton of damage.
I play a support staff ele and I get “tags” just fine. Position yourself better and you can let your hammer train do the initial stuns while you let off your fire attunement spells before switching to water to drop water fields.

Listen we understand how to work around the situation, it doesn’t mean the situation is perfect.
When I compare the amount of loot bags I get on my Necro and Warrior compared to my Ele and a lesser degree support guardian (mostly due to offensive greatsword and the ludicrous tagging on staff #1) the difference is night and day.
I agree you don’t need to be dropping water fields on Keep Lords unless contested but support should be compensated for supporting.

Well, I don’t really see it. I still get more bags on my ele than my warrior because of all the AoE damage I unleash on top of zerg stacks.

While you dropping water fields, your friends are getting additional bags. That is the whole point.
Boons ,healing, non aoe damage, all need better calculations for wvw loot.
Wvw lootbags should auto loot (no f key at all).
Wvw should have massively less grind.
Defending and scouting should have reward structures.
Rewards should be split by number of attackers vs number of defenders.
There are may valuable activities that give little or no tangible reward. Go ask someone who will siege up and scout a keep for hours how much loot and credit they get. The person who’s most responsible for saving your T3 garrison might not get a single kill.
Having switched my main from a guard to an ele I can attest to a dropoff in the bags, at least at first. Once I actually got rolling with my rotations and AoE it became really easy to tag and bag. For instance, I drop a static and then switch to fire to drop a lava font on the same location. By that time the melee ball has hit and I’m in water dropping my water field. Then after that I’m basically free-casting like a fiend and dropping AoE everywhere.
There should be no such thing as a purely healing elementalist. Your cooldowns are long enough to where if that is ALL you are spamming, you’re wasting 1/2 your time if not more.
As a Heal, Bond, and Smite Monk in GW1, I feel your pain. A-net has attempted to fix the problem in GW2. Other replys in this thread have addressed it. But as a “tagger” and scout, I suprised an avowed zerger with the fact I had more badges. When I sit on a “treb” or AC and kill off a zerg thats come knockin, I have bags littered at my feet. All I see is a badge farm when a zerg comes. So ya ’ll come back, yah hear!
Agree 100%. Anet needs to figure out how to do it.
As an Ele, actually I get more bags in contested situations. Lol if its an uncontested cap the weak kitten NPC’s are all dead from being wacked by the heavies before I can get a spell off. Best thing I can do is 111 on the Lord in Air and get credit for that kill.

OP says he plays a healing Ele, but this problem affects everyone who plays a support build, you throw in all your heals/cleanse/retaliation etc and dont get as much in return as those people doing damage receiving all your heals/cleanses/retaliations

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
