T8 was counting on a shift in ranking. Fergies have left in droves to other servers because of the anger and bitterness with our enemies, and even more are no longer playing wvw. Without this reset, we stand less and less chance of ever rising in ranks, as people go to higher ranked servers or stop playing all together. Not doing anything isn’t a good choice. Everyone on our server that I’ve spoken with is angry about this. Please do something.

Transfer? Why would you count on a shift in rankings to get matched up against servers that would steam roll you? Thats what would have happened if they do the proposed reset. You would have to fight Maguuma or DB basically a server that might have just moved up but was a bit over matched or happen to have kain in their tier. So they would have moved down to roll you guys over. It would have been a few servers down there doing this until things got sorted out again.

Example my server would have went from 15th to 2nd NA if they did the reset you think my server would have been happy getting rolled by SoS and JQ? Your people should have transferred if they really were all about WvW to a more WvW centric server. If not then they should transfer now and just pay the fee.

Not resetting benefits more of the WvW population than hurts it you can’t make a decision in a game with this many players that pleases everyone. Anet isn’t going to hand out free transfers to people in T8 not gonna happen so your people will have to transfer or stop playing or just deal and raise up from T8.

No I think he means that with the reset his server had a chance to renew, with all ratings being an equal 1500. Without the reset, they’re stuck with a tougher uphill climb that likely will result in folks just not coming out. I really feel for the bottom tier servers.

But don’t give up. Just dig in and chip away at it.

Short answer, yes. We would like ANY variety as a group.

Long answer, our servers are matched against a tier 5 population server right now and stuck in a hole due to flawed math.

aye…my server woulda went down to 18th I believe. We would have been placed up against a few tough groups now and then…but eventually we woulda been back to T2 and those in T8 painfully back to T8. Its better this way….yer best bet is to either tough it out or transfer.

sorry…late on my post…yar, sucks when ya get put up against a “wagon” server or such. We just missed rollin against the Kain"wagon" and glad of it too.

Yea, that’s what the reset would have done. Chances are your server would have moved back down to T8 (or close to it) but instead now your server would have been demoralized by the constant and overwhelming beatings your forces were going to take. Trust me though unless you want to have massive culled (invisible) zergs making WvW more un-fun then you’re going to be happier where you are anyways. I’m in T7 myself and honestly WvW gameplay in the higher servers doesn’t look like something I want to be a part of.

If ANet ever makes Zerging impractical, which they said they wanted to do, then I will be envious of the higher tiers again. Until then I’m content to have a more enjoyable experience.

You guys would have had to face Magumma or Dragonbrand next week anyway which are both Tier 3 servers. Either server would have capped you out in a day and it wouldn’t have changed anything. If you want to WvW hardcore you need to join a server dedicated to it. You can call it bandwagoning or whatever but it’s just the simple truth. There is a world(no pun intended) of difference between almost every tier and the Tier 8 servers just don’t have the population to move up in the ranks. With free transfers gone no large guild is going to pull a Kain and push you guys up.

It sucks but thats the truth of the matter and the flaw in WvW.

Seven out of eight tiers being kept happy is a hell of a lot better than mixing things up for the special tier and making everyone unhappy.

what are you even talking about? so we don’t count? that’s an incredibly intelligent answer and how would it “ruin” anything for you

Yes, you don’t count. If you really cared that much about your perceived notion of how WvW is supposed to work, you should’ve joined the more “fun” servers where, again, there’s people complaining. Join the upper tier servers, where there’s too many zergs. Or one of the middle tiers, which occasionally get a higher tier server dropping down (or flying up, in Kain’s case) to give them a good trouncing.

You had all the time in the world to leave your oh so horrible tier but no, couldn’t be bothered, have to change the system so that you could very well likely get trounced and find your server back where it started.

why even respond if all you’re going to do is troll? go somewhere else be constructive or don’t post at all, and you obviously haven’t read the above thread… please go back to your zerg server

I guess you are saying that your server’s score does not reflect the quality of the WvW population. IE you do have the people and knowledge to move you up the tiers, but you are so far down the hole that people on your server do not care to try?

I guess it is a fair argument, though you need to understand that the other side of the story (and what many people post here) is the fact that if that is enough to bring you down and make people not join wvw you probably will not enjoy the higher tiers (and their population) because they will likely spawn camp you, which will cause your population to stop going to wvw once again.

My simple fix: Don’t allow large population discrepancies on maps, or make the reward for it more conducive to victory, more than just MF and Karma.
My more complex fix: Get rid of the linear advancement. Make it Pyramidal or something. If my server hadn’t lost half of its players (not best, but all) because they joined other servers the second it went out we’d be lined up with the same two for the third week, then we might actually stand a chance of performing well in the future and competing. One player trying hard doesn’t make up for 20 lazy jerks who would rather just ride the victory of others.

I’m at the point where I actually was welcoming facing a Maguuma or Dragonbrand just as a change of pace. One week of that and we’d be back down in better shape, with a different match up much closer to our level.

The problem is that with the way their dumb formula works, the two losing servers in t8 have their ratings drop, but there is no other place to fall to, so instead of a chance to win at a lower tier, the ratings keep dropping. Since the ratings in T8, it takes a server forever to drop down, and forever to go up. Since SF got a free transfer windfall, we’re stuck fighting a T6+ server that needs multiple weeks to pass a bunch of T7 servers that are fighting a stalemate.

We do fine against T7 servers, we won’t win but at least the match will be fun.

Seriously, it’s amazing fighting down in T8 when there is a more or less equal matchup on. The fights are excellent and back and forth. Its just sucks facing a vastly superior server for 4+ weeks because of a rating system designed for chess.

I’ve been on Ferguson’s Crossing since head start, the first servers we faced were Blackgate and Dragonbrand. After that it was a procession of T5 and 6 servers that would stomp us, then we’d go ahead and stomp tier 8 back. Even after that we’d be fighting a mixture of Tier 7 servers. The difference was that we were fighting different servers every week. Now with the ratings getting worse and worse we get to see the same matchup again and again and again, and with the current system that won’t change. Even when SF leaves the next winner still has to spend enough time winning to climb out of our hole.

That… is actually a brilliant suggestion. Well, maybe not a full pyramid seeing how there’s only 8 tiers, but if say tier 8 and 7 were able to randomly switch servers around or… something…

The thing is what your asking for in variety alot of servers want the same thing after a few rounds fighting the same people. At the very least you want competitive matchups if you are going to be stuck fighting the same servers. This will be week 3 fighting IOJ and Devona rest. While you say you would have looked forward to the variety and facing DB and Maguuma the reality is most people on your server would have hated it after 2 days. DB and Maguuma would have really just been fighting each other. If mags or db would have dropped to fight you and another t8 server they would have hated because it would have been boring.

My server was 12th recently we had a exodus of people and we fell to T7 19th overall we have rose back to 13th and will probably be back at 12th after this week our only hiccup in getting back to 12th was the Kaineng train. Really you should just transfer to a server that more suits your needs.

While I understand the point being made it is better for the WvW community as whole to not reset everything.

You only have the choice of transfer, deal with it, or quit playing. Thats not troll thats truth. You can post here on the forums but its just not going to happen they aren’t going to change anything for 1 tier when they can satisfy 7 tiers.

DR, Kain, now SF…I really don’t envy the servers permanently stuck in t8. o.O

T8 isn’t exactly the place to be for WvW

completely untrue vodka, you should come here and see how competitive we really are and how hard we fight, the situation we’re placed in right now makes it impossible for us to do much

the open field fights and roaming are some of the best in the game and I’ve been on plenty of servers… just because we can’t field 2-50 man zergs on each map with queues doesn’t make us worse than you it just means our population coverage / pve players aren’t packed into wvw, also from weeks and weeks of blow outs with the same server beating us by more than double the other servers combined, a lot have gone into hibernation… anet needs to wake up and at least acknowledge there is a problem with t8
