Problem: Nightcapping gives huge point lead. Points should be awarded for tactical fighting. Holding and capturing should be equally viable.

Solution: Keep objective points as they are, but change how score is awarded. The server with most objective points get 100 score every tick, second place server gets 70 score every tick and last place server get 50 score per tick. Nightcapping servers would still probably win, but at least there wouldn’t be huge disparity in scores that couldn’t be overcome during day.

Problem: We’re playing on empty borderlands! Where is everybody?

Solution: There are probably individual roamers, but we don’t know about them. It’s much more fun to play with other players. See how sentries report about enemy players in their vision? Similarly ally positions should be automatically visible for friendly units so that we can coordinate our team playing better. This could even lead to more fights and that’s what makes WvW fun.

Problem: We are multiserver guild and want to do “claim wvw event”. We are going to WvW at opposing servers and trying to capture keep. Another our group at this time writing at map chat “-Don’t warry about contest – it’s just a roamer, we killed him”.
This week, I saw dozens of spies informing their guild about keeps/camps without protections. Even with commander tag – ’I’m scouting here with my guild, don’t warry and don’t take supply from here’.

I think, like ANET you are overstating the issue with nightcapping. They have said its one of the major issues with WvW atm. It’s not, we have had a healthy population for 3 years and it’s always been an ongoing issue but it’s not THE issue. It’s player created for the need to win. I’d rather they put that issue on the backburner while the more pertinent problems are resolved

I’ve probably logged more hours than most of the new Desert BL, because I have no lyfe.

I’ve learned that everyone hates the lazer event, you either do it EVERY 3 hours or spend an hour repairing all gates. So PvE or repair gates not engaging gameplay at all.
Yeah ok you get some skirmishes with people but you would get them anyway at camps, towers etc. Mostly blobs just turn up and there’s nothing you can do. Solution would to be disable event or instead of nuking all gates let a commander specify 1 objective to lazer. Would allow some misdirection and strategy to this event while not making it totally OP.

Also remove the shrines and tie its 3 bonuses into the 3 tiers of keep upgrades. So like a wooden air keep would give you just the jump pads automatically. I’ve found shrines to be the biggest problem. They funnel players from objectives that get contested to isolated areas of the map that nobody cares about.

Also some flat ground somewhere for GvG’s and blob fights would be much appreciated too.

While I agree that “night capping” is not as big of an issue as others may think, I disagree on the below:

So PvE or repair gates not engaging gameplay at all.

Problem: Want fair regulated fights? Want focus on players fighting other players?
Solution: PvP is that way ->

There are several suggestions made in the WvW forum that seem like they would better suit the PvP game mode.

Personally, I love the “PvE” stuff in WvW. When I roam EBG, I look for unguarded camps to flip, or flip the ogres/frogs/dredge, or attack sentries and guards outside towers. The last thing I want is to be jumped by an enemy roamer because I know I won’t get out of an encounter alive. In my years of solo-roaming WvW, I’ve only defeated two enemy players on my own, one of which was an uplevel, the other was a really close match which I was downed in the end but survived by getting my pet to heal me.

So why don’t I stick to PvE maps if I don’t want to fight? Because I like that “edge”, that extra feeling that I need to be on the lookout for danger, flee as soon as I see a red name. Gives a sense of urgency to what I’m doing and keeps things interesting, whereas PvE maps are generally very predictable. And I do wander around the PvE maps when I want to do something relaxing with less tension.

My point is, repairing gates is part of WvW gameplay, a small and not-as-important part maybe, but still a part of it. If you want to gut everything but PvP from WvW, then might as well just play PvP.

Except that well, the PPT design that enables heavy nightcapping to win matchups is still a major issue (especially in the EU). Its actually even worse now than pre-HoT due to the “hidden PPT” from dollys.

- Nightcapping makes the point system meaningless and it would be rather easy to fix it too. Nightcapping is literally 4 guys building a single catapult and capturing keeps with it, moving to next undefended objective afterwards. Been there, done that. Nobody captures them back, since they are sleeping or at work. 500 tick every 15 minutes brings one server to massive score lead by the morning and all the prime time fights don’t matter at all. I don’t see why this kind of thing should be rewarded.
