Some thoughts about WvW servers.
First, remove the server references from WvW. Draw upon history to utilize guild alliances. About a month before the beginning of a cycle (we’ll arbitrarily say three months), each guild leader declares allegiance, for their entire guild, to an alliance.
An alliance having numbers roughly equal to the average of the current linked server setup. So an alliance could be made up of a few very large guilds or many smaller ones, or any other combination, thereof.
Impossible.
Guilds are an integral part of the game that are cross-server and you are able to join 5 at a time, which enable things like community guilds in WvW.
Your change would remove that completely because its incompatible with current GW2 guild implementation. Change that and it impacts everything, not just a “simple” WvW alliance mechanic.
If these alliances are supposed to work with that guild setup, its so ripe for abuse its not even funny. Just band together and have a 500 man dummy guild sign up on the enemy side and enjoy the easy matchup while the enemy wonder why they never see that guild, lol.

It isn’t impossible at all, they would just have to implement it so a player can only play for one alliance per match up.
