So i just came back after a 3 month hiatus, my main reason for quitting was culling and how much it was ruining the game for me, so when i hear a rumour it was fixed i jumped back in.

Now culling seems a lot better, as good as it was before it got really bad, maybe even slightly better, it is not completely cured, a few zergs still ‘pop’ in. However the culling seems to have been replaced with an almost permanent lag, even when there is no one around me i have experienced lag on my skills of a few seconds.

I was just in a truel at Stonemist, which would have been fun if it weren’t for the 10 seconds of lag on every action, i had a 1v2 upstairs that boiled down to who was lagging less. Also since my break the performance has decreased to, i was just getting single figures FPS, which is unacceptable on a machine that cost over 1000 UK pounds, and is less than 6 months old.

So something has to give, whether it be lowering the amount of people in WvW, getting better servers, or at least letting us tone down the particle effects nightmare, i really enjoy this game and want to see it grow and prosper.

Sounds like a hardware issue. I have experienced significant wvw lag only once since the update where my frame rate dropped to like 10-12 fps. That was a three way fight in eb with the full maps worth of players from all three servers. They have given everyone the option of removing lag, but if your pc can’t handle it…. I do agree about the particle effects though.

Like i said the parts for this cost me nearly a grand, over including my monitor, it is not my hardware. Al;so this game is renown for being optimised for lower end machines. I am not the only person complaining about this lag, i see it in chat everywhere. Blind fanboism won’t improve the game.

It astounds me how many PC gamers out there so kitten clueless to lag/fps/hardware probs etc..

This is called Skill lag, its due to inferior servers in Anet (Texas/Frankfurt)
It has NOTHING to do with your own personal PC hardware.

It will be fixed when either;
A. Anet upgrade servers
B. You move to lower tier servers where the zergs are smaller
C. You only play outside prime-time or on a Borderland that isn’t popular that week(a.k.a never EB)

Culling didn’t effect lag in any way shape or form, Skill lag is around since February and will be for foreseeable future.

The only thing that changed with culling is you will get worse FPS in big fights, it didn’t effect performance as much as people assumed though so if you have any half way decent PC you will be fine on low quality/show everyone settings. It did not effect lag at all, cant stress that enough.

The lag is serverwide (PVE 2 only a bit less) and not just WvW. I would love to see this fixed and an increase @ wvw at the same time cause the ques are annoying as hell for WvW, taking an hour to get in. At the same time its a huge backstab for everyone at the medium servers that transfers to our servers are free now because the ques get huge.

You don’t have a clue what you are talking about. Everyone else here in this thread so far seems to know that skill lag and rendering fps are two different things, and everyone else seems to understand that skill lag is caused by server-side horsepower issues … some combination of a weak game engine, not enough server capacity, not enough network bandwidth. Don’t believe us? Read ANet’s own posts on the subject.

Fair enough, but to be fair you did start listing your PC components so I assumed you thought it was not server-side problems, cant blame me.

Skill lag, as many here have pointed out, is a server side issue. Your PC’s components will not have any impact on it.

My bad. I actually thought he was talking about the fps, not skill lag. I apologise.

Skill lag at 200+ is a server side issue, skill lag at <200 is your ISP throttling your bandwith. Most players can avoid this issue by forcing GW2 to use a different port, there is a fix posted on reddit for those still having issues.

This is so refreshing after playing LOTRO and having Turbine tell us the lag we all experienced at the exact same time (despite the population being from many countries) was the player’s internet service provider or player’s hardware issue.

So when is Anet going to give their servers an upgrade? (If they are of course)
