As only a few of you may know structural upgades for towers and keeps (especially SMC) can be expensive and often never even get completed.
I suggest that the current system of a 1 time buy be changed to split payment for partical progress and change the system into a instant consume system similar to how upgrading guards work.
Camps will remain the same.
For tower the upgrade would be split into 2 parts 50% for the first buy available when half of the required supply is present which would be instantly consumed and a second time for the completing progress, each upgrade will have half the upgrade time of the original as well.
For Keeps it would be a 5 part split with the same concept 20% completion with only 20% supplies used that is consumed immediately and takes 1/5 amount of time to complete compared to the original system if there was constant supply.
For Stonemist keep the upgrade would be split in 8 parts with the same mechanics as well 12.5% per upgrade.
Benefits:
1. More participation in upgrading
Most of the WvW community is reluctant to pay for upgrades because the costs are demoralizing and to constantly upgrade a tower or keep by themselves hurts the wallet. People would be more willing to pay for upgrades if it’s split across group of people and knowing that they aren’t alone when it comes to contributing.
2. Improved upgrade process.
Many pugs that are unfamiliar and new to WvW don’t think twice about taking supplies from a keep that is being upgraded. If you don’t know taking supplies from a keep while it’s upgrading severely hinders the upgrade process, sometimes even reinforced walls takes several hours to complete because of player drainage. Making a partial payment system dampers the problem because the supply that is present will be used for something useful and not something that a random player will just take while strolling by.
