Stagnated matchups
what is monte carlo and how will it help matchups
that matchup is rigged though, so of course it will stay the same.
Changing matchups just for the sake of changing, and having incredible unbalanced matches is just as bad as matchups that are stale. Actually, is even worse.
But yes, this actual glicko system doesn’t follow quick changes in the game, and this have been discussed to death.
The staleness is, at this point, more of a problem than fairness of matchups. Most active world vs worlders quit our server because they feel like their efforts aren’t affecting the matchups (and I guess many left the other two servers since nothing changed…?). As Imperdigao mentioned – it may be because of wild variations from week to week when people are leaving wvw and guilds are transferring servers. What is often done in engineering optimizations where the system gets stuck in a local minimum (Monte Carlo is sort of like this) is to add a small random term to the balancing. a) It is more likely to give more even matchups in the long run and b) this will make for more variable and potentially more fun matchups.
This game is about grind.
Players grind for material, grind for armor and weapons, grind for gold and grind through stale matchups for the possibility of something refreshing returning to WvW.
If a game grinds long enough, players’ real money might be squeezed out of their pockets into developer’s coffer.

Actually, playing Eotm could provide relief from the stale matchups because one often faces different opponents.

There is already randomization. The problem is that the variance for match-making is set too low for NA servers.

Some good fight guilds there but the “pugs” (Mag and CD included) on those servers are very unskilled in zvz fights. Playing the same thing every week is not exactly how you improve….
You folks should really be more vocal about the situation and push Anet for variety as you are going to be in for a rude awakening if/when you come against servers where the randoms are trained.
Same tier in EU is a whole other story btw:

That’s what happens when guilds move to three servers and try to keep it as balanced as possible. That matchup is the way it is because of players not because of Anet, fitestier. Maybe once guild arenas are available there won’t be a need for fight guilds to migrate to a specific 3 servers.
that matchup is rigged though, so of course it will stay the same.
Actually from what I understand the GvG guilds are moving back to T2.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

That is also what I heard, but for the past x months, it stayed the same mainly because it was rigged.
Matchups are stagnated due to the problem of server population/coverage. They haven’t fixed this and have taken virtually no steps to fix it over 3 years. Sure, they reworked the population calculations. However, considering you could put two servers together in some tiers and they still would not be able to compete with the top server in that tier (yet all have the same population, IE…“medium” does anyone think they put much effort into it?
You are better off with stagnant matchups, because the alternative is even more horrible blowouts which lead to even more people leaving WvW at a faster rate.
