Standard Enemy Models

Fairly sure this already exists…
But it’s called low settings

Incorrect.
Low settings does not standardize weapon skins. This feature will.
Low settings does not standardize armor by profession. This feature will. It does standardize armor by armor class (heavy, medium, light), though.
I’m have the feeling that this “competitive week update” will be just about sPVP and one or two minor WvW update.
I also thought low settings didn’t change the character model. I thought Char still looked like Char even though they were a “standard” Char.

If my memory serves me correctly, the low setting also standardizes animations to a certain extent.
Most people want standardized models in order to actually be able to see what asuras are doing.
Would love to have this feature in WvW.

You are correct Eugenides. The lowest settings have really simple animations. The tells for the skills at that level are not shown and very little can be gleamed from the animations.
It’s really only good for zerg combat.
I would like standardized models for WvW if there is an option to toggle for everyone, for performance reasons. If Anet has enough programing muscle to put into it they can make graphics cards not need to work as much because all the things it wants to render are similar and there for take less juice. Anything that can help FPS in zerg fights is good.

Command The Rainbow – Account bound commander tag + tag colours
Prepare to Fight – Probably the next WvW tournament… sigh
I would love this actually, I would turn it on in WvW the instant it comes out.
I suppose it would eat a bit of the immersion when everyone is standardized human, but so what? The casuals won’t be putting this setting on, it’s mostly the roamers and I suppose some of the GvG guilds will come up a good reason to turn it on (so that huge melee charrs don’t eat up so much screen space and you can see the small support ele asuran back there?).
This would be awesome for WvW as well. I hope Devon or some other representative will hop in and say “Yes, we will enable it in WvW as well”
Mouggari – Warrior – Candy cane Avenger
guess everyone would love this cause its a nice feature
but this would soooo kill the game
gw2 is all bout skins and shinies but who would care bout this when noone can see it?^^

You and your allies will still see the unique models.
This change only effects enemies.

Only people who are jelous of other peoples legendaries would use this lol
I would use it because seeing the animation moves of Asurans is very difficult. Those giant backpacks also make it hard to distinguish certain moves and some of the outfits players can wear can obscure their entire class unless they are selected.
Anyone who is engaging the enemy and wants to level the playing field a bit would probably like this feature. It is certainly possible.

I think this is a bad way to go to foster competitive high end PvP. Even high end PvP players want to look unique.
What they DESPERATELY NEED is cast bars, and target of target support. That is what high end pvp players need, not to make someone look x or y.
a lot of people will be disappointed they are not it.
+1 for cast bars. Either give me the option to standardize all enemy models in game like the proposed solution (except extended to include all sPvP modes and WvW) or give me the option to see cast bars.

A lot of the balance in this game is based around the way key skills telegraph, and that balance doesn’t exist with the smallest asura models using tiny weapons. It’s also much harder when the animations themselves are different race to race.
I guess this option not being available for WvW is a forgone conclusion since it’s not even available in all the PvP formats. Obviously everyone in WvW values enemy fashion over being able to play better…
Also, I doubt cast bars will ever be a thing in GW2 because of the cheating that became a huge pestilence in GW1, which I am guessing was made possible by the data being sent to clients for the cast bars. Anet never solved that problem. Also, the dynamic of the game changes a lot when interrupts based off hawking the cast bar and anti-interrupt measures such as cancel casting become a huge factor in high level play. Whether it was right or not, I think that’s why those two features (cast bar and cancel action) are not part of GW2.

Cancel action is part of gw2 though, both in a keybind to cancel and using stow weapon to cancel. It doesn’t work with every skill directly, but even skills that can’t be canceled via those key binds can be canceled by weapon swaps.
In addition, there already is faking out where viable. It’s not necessary until you meet good opponents but it’s also a good habit to be ready to cancel a skill if you think it won’t connect.
That’s true to some extent. I have never experienced high level PvP and can’t really comment on how much of a factor cancel casting is there. Shutdown mesmers are very, very rare, and even d/p + SoH thieves that can also be super annoying and dangerous with key shutdown are rare in WvW (players that actually play the build well). In GW1 you could expect rangers and mesmers that were loaded down with interrupts in all levels of play all the time, and the sub-game of interrupting and trying not to be interrupted was always a huge factor.
What I’m talking about though with the standard models is really basic defensive stuff. It’s almost impossible to read anything off tiny asura models besides the most incredibly obvious animations like earthshaker and mesmer greatsword skills, and that’s why many players choose asura. So…now that standard models are coded into the game, and anet probably won’t ever allow that option for lower level PvP and WvW, they are basically saying enemy fashion is more important than an equal playing field for one of the pillars of game balance.
