My guess is a lot of you read my last post when I was angry about stealth thieves and how my steal recharge rate suddenly went from 21 seconds to 27.

So I was in the game with a buddy who I am showing how to play my condition build and how deadly it actually can be if played a certain way (If you don’t play it a specific way you get demolished, but played right….. bloody fun and deadly). I told my friend I was rather ticked off because my capabilities were diminished and I would need to re-think play style or going back to my old build while stealth thieves are still allowed their op’ness.

My friend made a comment and I discovered that apparently, while I was grabbing the new elite skills to own, I accidently changed to the “Bewildering Ambush” from the trait that grants me 20% reduction to steal recharge. So, I gave him crap because I had to come back to the forums and make an apology.

So I do apologize that a mistake on my part cause me to think I was stealthed nerfed and that everyone had to hear about it.

The rest of my post was still correct though. Blindness on stealth… healing while stealthed… removing condis while stealthed… being able to perform more dodges when revealed…. and being almost untouchable for almost a whole fight still is OP.

Since I never read any replies on the last post let me re-iterate that it is possible for a person playing a thief to close his eyes and win fights. I’ll even give hints.

1) Auto target of course has to be on.
2) Use dagger/pistol
3) Use withdraw as your heal skill.
4) Trait for MUG
5) Don’t fight where there are animals around to be targeted instead of your opponent.
6) Don’t fight a mesmer!!!

He’s right though. Whenever I roam on my thief in WvW I tie a blindfold around my head to make fights fair. After about a half hour I untie my blindfold to see what has happened. I’m always running into a wall somewhere close to spawn, so I can only assume that I have defeated at least 100 enemies at that point. And that’s with a d/d setup. I could probably get at least 200 kills using the same method if I used d/p.

You do realize I play a thief almost exclusively in wvw right? I spend most of my time roaming solo looking for solo roaming and dual roaming builds and kill them.

Yesterday I solo’d a necro/engi team, thief/engineer team, thief,ele,necro team, thief/necro team

and myself with a same thief build friend killed a team comprised of an engi/necro/ranger/warrior/ele and an upscale thief (which doesn’t count).

Edit “I did lose a fight to two shatter mesmers and a stun warrior”. That was definately a bad fight to get into.

What other profession has the capability to do such a thing? None.

I love to win, but going back to the character comment that one thief player made…. I am all for fair play, so compare me to someone like himself and others who want free wins. The lack of character is most assured not my problem.

D/P will continue to be broken as long as HS and BP are easily spammed. D/D took a significant hit with the Ferocity changes. Bursting is much more difficult.

I run a straight up power mesmer and there are very few thieves I will lose to. A well planned “moa” and they cannot stealth and melt easily under fire. When the wife roams with me with her condition mesmer we do not lose to thieves. As soon as one moa expires another is ready! Once we kill them a couple of times they run as soon as our two tags are spotted on the horizon!

HS and BP in the same weapon set, without CD, with almost infinite initiative for SPAMMEABLE INVISIBLITY?

Is pretty balanced!

Add to that a lot of evasions and blinds.

HELL YEAH!

And don’t forget this, shadow step, 1200 range instant teleport has stun breaker.

Weren’t you the one that complained about Shadow Refuge when I made an analogy about the Pigs, Wolves and Wooden Houses? Shadow Step isn’t a problem as it has a kitten cooldown, Anet seems happy that many rely on Stealth and Shadow Arts for survivability and Burst which is the case for many Basic D/P Builds.

There is nothing we can do as, maybe it’s intended for each Class to have certain builds and sets with a lower learning curve – it’s just that Thieves probably has one of the most annoying ones especially while Roaming.

The reason I posted this video up is because I wish more players would be willing to try out some Diversity themselves even though Anet may have nerfed some of our more difficult builds to master, they are still very much viable.

I started GW2 from beta, and I notice from the start the unbalancing between professions.

How can a company that was always worried with the balance between professions in GW1, produce this caricatures in GW2?

I’d like to see you try out d/p in arenas and report back on the "op"ness. Prior to the patch I’d say every sPvP arena had a thief or 2, but post patch that has dwindled dramatically. I know they didn’t decrease crit dmg in pvp, but there is something nerfy with the thief atm. I was using my thief in d/p mode (ala Caed) pre patch and I switched to a regen warrior post patch…no traction in pvp atm.

On the flipside, I don’t think I have been beaten by a solo thief in arenas post patch. 2 tagged teamed me yesterday and slaughtered me quickly, but apart from 2v1 they are a LOT easier post patch.

Remember there’s a lot of PvE players that are in WvW doing PvDoor and gathering bags. Destroying players there isn’t the same as being OP. Most players are used to NPCs, were doing these 11/28/4/7 or whatever builds that forced Anet to simplify it, and freak out when faced with a real player.

Not at all, spoken like a true Thief.

It takes lil to no skill to play a Thief profession well in WvW, even at a loss to a skilled player results in not a kill but an escape. A player that understands the strength and weakness of other professions playing a Thief is gg op.

This is nothing new though Rogue, Thief, blade, Stalker pick and choose any mmo w/an open world pvp environment and you will always see these kind of players play these kind of classes.

You are correct, Arena.Net was Passionate about Rules, implimenting a Fair, Just System, Balanced Design, Mechanics and especially Passionate and Attentive to their community needs and concerns.

The Arena.net we have are the complete opposite. Their Passion is implementing a Unfair, Unjust system which not only apposes all rules, design, mechanics and Balance of Arena.Net but intentionally ignoring their community concerns and attentiveness toward important critical matters..

One example: 2 Years later: same constant Crashes, System Freezes, Lags, hackers: the lists goes on….

Another example is the warrior class, oh my! i don’t know where to start. All i will say is this, the Warrior class is the substitute of all the classes,

Oh i almost forgot this part: this class can stun you for 8-30+ seconds using just a hammer..

Yes,you heard it right! just for using a hammer: you will be instantly near perma stun lock and it’s game over.

You already see what’s wrong this picture: no need to go on.

Yet another example, i bring you the Elementalist class: no need for a Guardian class: this class have it all. Talk about it, if you do not see this as problometic, try their 2 single shotted bursts with instant death aoe’s.

Oh! did you know they were given a Invincibility, Invulnerability Mechanic called Diamond Skin?

Yes that’s right! it makes them invincible, Invulnerable to everything.

A Invincibility, Invulnerability class mechanic in Guild Wars 2?

No way!!

Yes way!

Lastly, is the thief class; 2 years later, we the community implored to Arena.net to balance/redesign and redo this class due to their unfair, unjust advantage among the classes but once again, Arena.net looked the other way.

In return, we the community have lost yet still losing, more, many and many great wonderful players and guilds due to this.

Forget about learning and experiencing, it’s all about the easy way out.

But don’t call that cheating or abuse or else you will get Punished: Infracted, Banned

So there…

That’s the cross we the community must carry, for wanting a Fair, Just System and for asking for better communication with Arena.net.

Except…I main a warrior…
And have no problem playing against them as I understand my weaknesses and strengths vs them. Beating them IS a ltp issue. And yea, you won’t always get a kill due to their mobility as they escape, but so what.

I play a thief main. Have since launch. But for about a 5 month period I played necro. I 1vX’d with my necro just as effectively as my thief. I have warrior and guardian friends who can 1vX, and a ranger guildy who can 1vX. Thief isn’t the only class that can.
Revealed at 6 seconds is ridiculous. I’m sorry if you have troubles with stealth thieves, or dislike the stealth mechanic, but it isn’t as OP as you seem to think, and if you were at all decent with stealth, you would know this. Any good player can counter a thief. Doesn’t matter on the class. You seem to think that our main source of Condi clear, our only real defensive aspect other than high evades, and our primary class utility is broken because it makes us invisible. I garuntee is we were visible but invincible instead of regen in health, people like you would not irrationally complain so much.

Before making ridiculous suggestions I would recommend the OP join a fight club or come to obsidian sanctum to fight more skilled players. Or check in on sPvP where thief is one of the weaker classes now.

Lol, you know thief is weaker is sPvP right ? and thief the weaker class ? double lol.
Try to follow your suggestion and play a bit more of OS/PvP man and you will get better, you will also notice that most people play thief and mesmer in OS just because its easier to win.

Initiative regen needs to be nerfed. No reason a thief should be able to burst, and then be able to stealth for 2 seconds, and then appear 30 feet away from shadow shot, etc.

They can usually get away even if they step on a stealth trap. id be fine if they had a lot of mobility, id fine be fine if they had a lot of stealth, but having a lot of both at the same time is frustrating to play against. There’s literally no counterplay in most people’s builds against them. Not only does that makes it frustrating, but not having a way to counterplay is antifun.

I feel less threatened than ever against power thieves. The cumulative effect of the nerf to infusion ticks on stealth stacks, infiltrator’s return, and crit damage has added up to quite a lot.

Thieves really aren’t OP, the only thing they have going for them is good stealth which is almost matched by PU mesmers, there’s so many counters for thieves, it’s just getting horrendous. Pretty much every patch they’re getting nerfed.

At the beginning of the game, I went on spvp a lot and trolled around on my thief, when I went back to spvp 5 weeks ago and played on my thief, I was horrified at how much it had been nerfed, I was no longer an invincible sword thief but a rallybot >.< It appalled me so much that I now use a guardian for spvp since they’re unlikely to be nerfed anywhere near as much.

I’m tempted to create a thread just for thief weaknesses, there’s just so many.

It’s getting to the point where I literally farm thieves for kill stacks (yes you read that right, illusionary counter + 40% condition duration ftw)

and in case you’re wondering, no I do not play a thief in wvw, I main a guardian with a mesmer as my secondary.

Anyway, the thing you have to remember is that a thieves only defense is their stealth, it’s what keeps them viable just as regeneration of HP keeps Guardians viable. Going for condi cleanse and heal in stealth means they do less damage, sacrifices must be made in order for greater sustain. If they stealth and run away, you’ve won that fight.

The nerf to Infusion of Shadows was great and made the stupid D/P permastealth troll builds die out a bit since they’re now completely non-viable even against the worst players, they were never an issue of “these guys can kill me” more “I can’t kill this annoying thief”

I don’t play thief much so I don’t know a lot of the intricacies of the class but I feel they’re in a decent spot right now, not too weak and not overly strong. Sure, I get annoyed at stealth sometimes but you have to deal with it I suppose. I’m expecting someone to mention the “but omg 13k backstabs” post, but to me it’s largely irrelevant, as if I see one of these “1 hit KO” thieves in PvP i know we will win, as we’re basically one team member up since they contribute nothing as once they blow all their signets for might stacks for one kill only they have no escapes, stunbreaks etc. and will melt when anyone looks at them.

Power thieves aren’t really an issue anymore. They took a huge hit with the ferocity nerf, every power build did really. D/P thieves are just trolls now and no threat, so don’t let them bother you. It’s the P/D condition thieves that you really need to worry about. That is seriously overpowered BS right there. I mainly use S/P and D/D on my thief and pretty much have zero chance of taking one of those cheesy builds down unless i get lucky and they mess up. It somewhat easier to kill them on my necro or warrior and sometimes on my ele if im running s/d and manage to nail them with the full burst rotation if theyre stupid enough to stand still for more than a second. They have a ridiculous amount of sustain and even more ridiculous condition damage that no amount of cleansing will save you from because the can stack it all back on you in seconds. I’d gladly welcome back the instakill pre-ferocity nerf power thief builds to be rid of that cheese.

I have no problem vs condi thief, and if i lose, at least i can try to fight.

Power thief stealth spammer is still an issue. They still hit a lot and without risk because the stealth spamming capabilities, the HIGH amount of evasions and blinds.

IS STILL pretty annoying to fight it, and is STILL almost impossible to kill a well played D/P thief. You said “troll”? i said “try and try and try following you until one of these try he kill you” you can’t run, you can’t kill him, you only can wait for the BS and HS spamming and try to survive, because if you are winning, they just disappear to try it again.

Before making ridiculous suggestions I would recommend the OP join a fight club or come to obsidian sanctum to fight more skilled players. Or check in on sPvP where thief is one of the weaker classes now.

Lol, you know thief is weaker is sPvP right ? and thief the weaker class ? double lol.
Try to follow your suggestion and play a bit more of OS/PvP man and you will get better, you will also notice that most people play thief and mesmer in OS just because its easier to win.

I guess it depends on what class you play. Ele is my main so good mesmers are very difficult but only 1 thief build (20-30 trickery) gives me a lot of trouble with boon steal.

They don’t need any more nerfs at all and none of your difficulties change the fact that a 6 second reveal is a ridiculous suggestion because stealth is an offensive as well as defensive mechanic for thief. It’s part of everything they do.

Anet needs to experiment something : give more access to stealth/camouflage in utility for ranger and see how ranger will become!

Im taking a guess they will become on of the top class for 1vsX xD

(that idea is motivated behind the fact that ranger is suppose to be a skirmishing class, but when wielding a longbow you are ALMOST immobile xD).

It’s so sad for me, one GW1 player from the start to read this posts.

I started GW2 from beta, and I notice from the start the unbalancing between professions.

How can a company that was always worried with the balance between professions in GW1, produce this caricatures in GW2?

You are correct, Arena.Net was Passionate about Rules, implimenting a Fair, Just System, Balanced Design, Mechanics and especially Passionate and Attentive to their community needs and concerns.

The Arena.net we have are the complete opposite. Their Passion is implementing a Unfair, Unjust system which not only apposes all rules, design, mechanics and Balance of Arena.Net but intentionally ignoring their community concerns and attentiveness toward important critical matters..

One example: 2 Years later: same constant Crashes, System Freezes, Lags, hackers: the lists goes on….

Another example is the warrior class, oh my! i don’t know where to start. All i will say is this, the Warrior class is the substitute of all the classes,

Oh i almost forgot this part: this class can stun you for 8-30+ seconds using just a hammer..

Yes,you heard it right! just for using a hammer: you will be instantly near perma stun lock and it’s game over.

Yet another example, i bring you the Elementalist class: no need for a Guardian class: this class have it all. Talk about it, if you do not see this as problometic, try their 2 single shotted bursts with instant death aoe’s.

Oh! did you know they were given a Invincibility, Invulnerability Mechanic called Diamond Skin?

Yes that’s right! it makes them invincible, Invulnerable to everything.

A Invincibility, Invulnerability class mechanic in Guild Wars 2?

No way!!

Lastly, is the thief class; 2 years later, we the community implored to Arena.net to balance/redesign and redo this class due to their unfair, unjust advantage among the classes but once again, Arena.net looked the other way.

In return, we the community have lost yet still losing, more, many and many great wonderful players and guilds due to this.

Forget about learning and experiencing, it’s all about the easy way out.

But don’t call that cheating or abuse or else you will get Punished: Infracted, Banned

So there…

That’s the cross we the community must carry, for wanting a Fair, Just System and for asking for better communication with Arena.net.

Seriously though, stealth and evasion are the two core mechanics of thief gameplay so of course they are going to have access to it. Please leave your QQ elsewhere. This can go for pretty much everyone else that complain about thieves.

You do realize I play a thief almost exclusively in wvw right? I spend most of my time roaming solo looking for solo roaming and dual roaming builds and kill them.

Yesterday I solo’d a necro/engi team, thief/engineer team, thief,ele,necro team, thief/necro team

and myself with a same thief build friend killed a team comprised of an engi/necro/ranger/warrior/ele and an upscale thief (which doesn’t count).

Edit “I did lose a fight to two shatter mesmers and a stun warrior”. That was definately a bad fight to get into.

What other profession has the capability to do such a thing? None.

I love to win, but going back to the character comment that one thief player made…. I am all for fair play, so compare me to someone like himself and others who want free wins. The lack of character is most assured not my problem.

Reveal should be changed to 6 seconds.

A thief with some integrity… Who knew.

What you stated is partially correct. The part about people that want to, as you say, “disappear when things don’t go the way they want them to”, that you got right. Better stated though, would be, picked by people that prefer a class that can disengage and/or has high escape skills. The part that is total nonsense is the, “don’t feel confident in open field” crap you spouted.

You see, Warriors are class that many people pick to do high levels of damage while retaining inherently high survivability. It’s not a lack of confidence, it’s a preferred play style.

And Ranger’s are a class often picked by people that like having a side-kick to help keep some pressure off themselves and as a distraction to others. It’s not a lack of confidence, it’s a preferred play style.

And Guardians are a class often chosen by people that enjoy support roles, or just being tanky as hell and very hard to kill. It’s not a lack of confidence, it’s a preferred play style.

And Elementlists are a class ………… It’s not a lack of confidence, it’s a preferred play style ……… and so on.

Look, I get it, you find it particularly annoying fighting a class that can disengage well, and it frustrates you. Got it. And that’s okay, because they annoy me too – LOL. But the things that annoy or frustrate me personally, do not then by inference make the people that do them " insert negative adjective or pejorative remark".

So relax, enjoy the game, and have some fun. And when you feel annoyed, laugh it off, after all: its only a game.

Agreed with OP.

Perma stealth is a ridiculous mechanic to have in combination with the lack of objective orientation. I understand it’s a core mechanic of the thief class but in the context of the open world that is wvw this mechanic does not work. Everyone here, everyday, meets a thief that takes 10 minutes to kill simply because they can stealth and disengage for cooldowns.

Ofc people are going to defend their favourite class but these perma stealth builds in wvw need to be addressed for sure.

It’s not that P/D got any stronger in the last patch, it’s just that it now is the most viable thief build and thus it has to be nerfed toned down.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Stealth and high damage aren’t OP, line of sight abuse is. Mesmers and Thieves can port all over the kitten place and regardless of how good your reflexes are it’s incredibly difficult to get a clean shot on them. The only thing that really hard counters either of these professions is an immobilize, unfortunately a) not every profession has a viable means of access to this and b) most of the time they can just port right out of it.
Anyway, once upon a time when I was a wee scrubling… I hated Thieves and all their stealth and wah wah they’re OP plz nurf. But now that I’ve learned to play I understand these things aren’t at all OP. The line of sight thing is, however. Have you ever fought a d/p Thief? It’s like a game of who will trip over their own shoelaces first.

What i dislike is the shadow refuge skill. It gives them a way to reset fight with full health. I would be totally satisfied with this skill if they didnt had that regen going for 15 sec…

Also being able to regen ~300 health per sec in stealth is also VERY TOO STRONG since being in stealth is being invulnerable to single target skill. So its some free 300 health tick going every 3 sec giving them the power to outlast an enemy than can retaliate 3 sec per 5-7 sec. Combined with the huge amount of pressure, that class has everything to win any build when played right.

SO, i think a nerf of THEIR REGEN is better than a nerf TO THEIR STEALTH. That way they could hit you super hard and hide if things goes badly but maybe not come again full health ready to finish you. It would force them to make less errors.

Finally the D/P problem for me is the black powder initial gunshot that apply blind. It prevent you from doing counter play like an interrupt while they do their HEARTSEEKER.

As a thief pistol whipping them outside the BP makes d/p thieves cry.
I don’t think SR Is an issue unless traited into additional heal under stealth, I don’t but a lot of thieves do and come back in good health as much cluster bombs I try to spray.
