Give players a bonus for staying on a server.. have loyal tiers like t1 – t5 and give players an increased bonus for staying on a server. Every reset (2 months) bump thm up a level till they reach a max level of something like 5. When ppl transfer they go back to level 0.

Bonus can be WvW exp and MF.. special reward tracks.. access to certain WvW traits unless they have a certain level.

Having a certain loyal ranking can start giving XP towards a special reward track (like something unique for WvW.. skins: weapons/armor/legendary gear/title)

Something to stop bandwagoning or at least make ppl think twice before moving to another server is surely a healthy step forward.

IMHO i think WvWvW needs ppl to transfer alot, if ppl all stay on the servers they are on now, you will be killing the same ppl all the time. that will get boring very fast.

it might be frustrating to some if u wake up and find ur self on a suddenly empty server, but hey then u got enough enemies to kill and will soon see diffrent servers. and after a while out of nowhere ppl you have never seen before will come to your server.

A loyalty system would have been a good idea to implement years ago, unfortunately with free accounts around it would still be possible for players to move where they want anyways.

Mudse, if players didn’t move around so much and we actually had more evened out populations between servers, the glicko system could produce more random matches with higher variance to ratings. But with the way things turned out, it’s obviously bad to try and throw a t4 server even into t2, that’s why the variance was really low before and matches became stale.

The quality of fights is definitely different from t1 all the way to t4 though, I can see why fight guilds wanted to move up and usually settle in t2, and why havoc guilds wanted to move down to get away from the blobs.

i dont think the population would even out that way.
if every server had about equal population then ur right, you can have alot of random matches. but with such a system people will bandwagon at the beginning of it and then it will remain that way.

Hell they even bandwagoned before the game got released lol, titan alliance to HoD, ocx to SoS. Then free open transfers for months after, system was broken from the start.

whats it you get from the game by punishing ppl to leave you ? ofc u can then longer troll ppl on your own server before they leave if thats what you like about WvWvW.

or do u just want to be rewarded for being to loyal to a server? you can get a title for it or whatever thats ok, but in every post of yours you also seem to want a punishment for leaving you that part i really dont understand.. if people dont want to play with you, you shouldnt try forcing them.

Being loyal and recognizing other player names over time are things that makes pvp more interesting and engaging, and rewarding commitment even when it gets rough for a server is a great idea.

Would people who bandwagon even care?

I mean talking even a +100% bonus of little is still not +0% of zomg loot! One has players scratching for anything in wvw and the other is still getting so much loot their bags full requires a new “anet make green sigils trash items/allow us to label junk” thread every week.

This is all on the assumption that bandwagoning is so much a problem that it actually requires a hardline solution.

unfortunately bandwagoning is one of the most interesting thing that happens imo. it disrupts the balance, brings new matchups, adds variance to the same ol week in week out monotony.

Love this idea.

Attach server-specific armour and weapons and remain resolute that if you transfer no takebacks, start all over, and you have the hook.

Why? Because suddenLy jumping servers has consequences. In fact have a big screen warning about returning to scratch part of the purchase agreement at the transfer screen. Then nobody is unaware, or made a mistake, because it requires two click throughs.

Doesn’t even have to be stat gear, just skins. People lose their minds over skins.

Make progress to earn a full set take six months, minimum, and voila server stability. You don’t NEED the skins to play the game, but you’re going to want them. Added bonus: augmented server identity when linking happens. To add on to the OP, have seven levels, for each piece of gear as a reward upon completion. Transfer off at stage three and go back? Nope, back to stage one again, and duplicate piece of gear (good for an alt).

Cave to temper tantrums on the forums or make an exception for one or two (or 12) people? Boom. Back to square one and where we are now with wvw.

We have a system that can change that. If people don’t move as much, you actually use the linking server to shake up match ups.

I still say they need to introduce legendary armor for wvw, and make the entire progression tied to server loyalty. The moment you move, you lose all your progress. If you’ve completed the set and move, the set reverts back to your gifts and have to reacquire the components from loyalty. Make it a 2 or 3 month long journey.

if you are on the lower end populationwise of all the unliked servers, you have very low chance to face the ppl fighting on full servers or on the ‘fullest’ linked servers..

Bandwagoning is caused by the linkings. Instead of linking servers, Anet should have deleted 1-3 Servers and grant free transfers for a week.

With the 500gem transfers to low pop servers which are linked with T1 servers is just ridiculous. THIS is causing serverwh*ring.

Now theres barely a server community in lower servers, since their community is changing each new server relink. No community = no reason to stay. Its been completly ruined by Anet. I hope they think about moving towards the old server system, just less servers. The PvE-world is independed from those servers anyway. Its just affecting WvW. But since Anet seems to just move forward blindfolded, this wont get any better.

Anet needs the revenue, they won’t add something that prevents them from getting cash. GW2 won’t last forever and they’ll get what they can from it while it’s still alive.

People will always bandwagon because the majority of players aren’t interested in challenge, they’re interested in victory. Even if victory means winning against numbers a fraction of their size. As long as people can blob down their enemies, they’re going to sniff out the biggest blob for the most safety.

Bandwagoning is caused by the linkings.

Bandwagoning exists since launch. Linking only allows Anet to adjust server pop without forcing people to transfer.

The idea is good, but it’s too little and much too late.
This system should have been in place since start and with much more important features like “no repair costs” “better loot” “additional reward tracks” “ascended wvw armor” and " additional wvw skills". There would have been so many great ideas you could have put into this loyalty reward system (thinking of prestige from other games eg)
But it won’t work with the actual state of the game. The playerbase is so small, you had to get rid of f2p accounts in wvw and you should prohibit people having a second account on other servers – all these things could have done with start of the game but won’t work after 4 years into the game.

reward for being loyal is allways something you will miss out when transfering server so sort of a punishment if the reward is great enough to really have en effect.
and no im not a bandwagoner, i switch servers from time to time thats true but i move away from servers if they get too crowded as i solo roam mostly, the last few weeks we had too few enemies tho since we got 2 new guilds on our server.. hope that will change soon or i might leave again of ..this last week i was already 90% of the time in PvE wich i normaly avoid completely – only cause we had no enemies fighting server Nr 14 and 15.

i dont think the linking system will be enough to create even population if people stopped transfering, at least not in EU with all the national servers thats why i think you will still facing same servers all the time.

Stuff of this nature has been asked on since the beginning.

Incentives to remain on server, incentives to remain fighting while outnumbered, transfer limitations, etc. etc.

Instead we got incentives to transfer and blob up and things like ETOM resulting from the whining of overstacked servers.

The game has unfortunately gone in exact opposite direction then it needs to with regards to these issues and is still on that general path.

At this point nothing except strictly enforced server and transfer limits would help the situation.

My server (current link more precisely) has unfortunately been a recipient of a good portion of the latest bandwagon, and we are on our way out if the servers that used to be there continue to keep falling. Unfortunately we do not have anywhere near the population and coverage to be even remotely competetive there.

Many of us wish these bandwagoners and server hoppers would just leave, at this point we don’t even care if they disappear from the game entirely, it would be a good riddance to the game a whole.

Well then you have the make the choice that’s right for you: stay and earn the reward, or jump to the next fotm server.

And the choice is ultimately yours.

If you view it as a punishment, don’t transfer. Pretty simple.

There is a majority just looking for the winning server. When you encounter opposition that’s when fights occur on an actual server level.

As example the T2 “wars” that occurred when the YB bandwagon arrived. FA then also bandwagoned and even started winning for awhile. Also you saw some 2v1 based on ideology. Whatever the reasons the clashes were big and the fights plentiful. Many people played and activity was high.

To a lesser extent you saw it when the mag bandwagon arrived in T1. BG was also huge and the fights were good…while BG was still winning. Lots of people just want this action.

So in short transfers and server level fights are fun.
