I have some single target spells, target a random zerger in the blob or the commander with it, hmmm decisions decisions.

The tendency is to find that great Norms or Chaars are commanders. As my main in WvW is a Char or a Norm, I tend to be mistaken with the commander and pin-sniped. The commander, in turn, is an asura and is probably happy with this.
If the commander is often being targeted, then it means that he is actually far ahead and his zerg disorganized so as to never follow him.

Mesmer or Thieves commanders are the worst at it, i have see some guys porting ahead and left they zerg behing.

I agree, its a problem, i am focused often and it is really annoying, people are sniping high ranks like me, then they jump on my body when i die…should be an option to hide rank so it is not visible to enemy.

Then why people die to these “weak groups”? I guess the ones that need to get good are the ones that die after the pin sniping, no?
So playing staff ele healing spamming 1 in water is a good healing tool but its very hard to hit ppl with it i wish there was a way to target your own team with effects and not just being able to target the other team. I think that would fix a lot with pin sniping and the counter play to it.
Gw2 is very much a single out a target and kill but not a good way of helping out that one target.

what? in any war in history or in game one of the the top targets is always the general for obvious reasons, why would you ever do otherwise?
Pin snipe is lame and the only posible way to counter it at the moment is stealth.
More armor /HP /boons will not help against : corrupt moa pull+imoblize by some decent snipers.
Any commander can be easy killed, if the sniper team have good coordination, however pin snipe ruin the open field fights, and commanders are forced to drag the fights in choke points, to minimize the leader focus.
most of the fights where commanders are hardly focussed end up in pirateship or in endless fights in choke points.
However i find amusing the reaction from kids that belive they are special or better players if they can focus 1 guy in a 70 vs 70 fight. Commander focus was never hard , however 95% of the decent players avoid to do it , to have funny and healthy fights.
Usualy bad players try to find easy mode to win fights, and end up ragequiting when they lose fights , even with pin snipe
