Not that I want to stop the salt that this whole your blob is bigger than my blob generates each and every night in WVW. But since no one seems to be able to count anyone that is not in squad, I propose that we show the reds on the mini map when we are engaged in fighting. Just on the mini map so that we have both sides of the picture when the hate whispers come and for the videos that we all know and love watching.

I wouldn’t think this would be a difficult change you have to show that information on each of the different servers maps anyways and since everyone says it is because red name plates look like more people it would give a more accruate perspective. Or make it a command that give a count in 2000-2500 range but the distance should not be anymore than you can see.

Personally, I would love it if you made local outmanned buff (not necessarily bonus to your skills – maybe magic find and kills bonus) since the fun of fighting outmanned for the challenge not to get special bonuses to offset your numbers.

If you’re alive and can directly see enemy players, those enemies are marked on the map for your team same way as sentry marks them.

…is how I would do it to make the scouting game actually rewarding.

Then perhaps I don’t have settings correct but the enemy groups on my mini map don’t show unless they are down or perhaps marked by a sentry. I will check my settings.

Not sure I get your point on the scouting thing since it would be in your viewing area so if you can see them they have already been scouted.

Your settings are correct. Only downed and sentry-marked enemies are shown.

In scouting situation you can see enemies, but your team won’t. You have to type what you see on chat every time like “5 enemies running up the slope next to Woodhaven” instead of having the game report their positions automatically.

This kind of change would dramatically increase value of scouting and make it actually rewarding.

I still fail to see the point with all the automation. Sentries, scouting blimps, emergency waypoints, hell even the blimp barrage in SM, etc and so on… its all pointless fluff that has taken away the involvement of playing the game, seeing things with your own eyes and doing stuff with your own hands.

Well to me the biggest problem in WvW is that I have absolutely no idea where my own team and enemy teams are going. I could load into borderland and capture a few camps without seeing anybody on the way. Am I playing alone?

When I’m playing alone I tend to become bored pretty fast.

I am not looking for more gimmicks like scouting blimps, etc. It would be more interesting to be able to compare the number of red dots to blue/green dots in a fight. So many times you hear we are out numbered or they are so fat because the name tags make it look like more on the opposing side. this would provide a more apples to apples view. I am not looking for the entire map just within sight line.

Sort of exploitable like that. People have alt accounts they can leave in towers that they can just use a macro to not be afk booted. Free scouts! Not saying you cannot do that now with more monitors/computers, but auto marking would promote this exploit more.

At best, you could just get a ‘buff’ on groups larger than 24 who are withint 2400 range (e.g. use part of whatever the orange swords code is)

So at least smaller groups will be promoted by being more nimble compared to omni-blobs. Plus the immediate feed back that your group is greater/less than 25. Since it requires an enemy to be within range too, the effect of players adding in randomly is reduced.

The main advantage is that the people who do see enemy positions, at present, either don’t say anything or can’t count. So, dots would be helpful in that regard, but there is a problem: why should enemies be marked by line-of-sight to people who are AFK, not paying attention, and so on?

My view is that if scouting was important, people would be doing it properly. Now I can see merit in adding a trick, that you actually have to target enemies with, to light them up for a few seconds like a sentry, because 1) it requires you to be actively involved, and 2) it also tells them someone is watching.

Gw1 had this and anet said in gw2 they didn’t want that because you were constantly looking at the mini map.

I would not have an ally mark enemies for all to see as there is a high chance they are a random person running around who wouldn’t call it in map. And there are alot of “random” people in wvw.

I am not suggesting that it be marked for all players. Just the ones with in line of sight. Similar to how you can see your servermates in the area show with a green dot the enemies in your immediate area would be red dots.

It would really trivialize a lot of the tactics and emphasis on communication, while also enabling the trivialization of scouting by parking characters in towers and the likes rather than using the guild buff.

I’ll pass. Not paying attention to the world space should get you killed, rather than just needing to look at a minimap.

There’s afk check and macros/automation is against the rules. Just because it’s theoretically possible that someone goes out of their way to show bad sportmanship Anet shouldn’t deliver anything that would be positive for social playing?

My view is that if scouting was important, people would be doing it properly.

Scouting is essential, but the game doesn’t support it in any way. It’s a player-created concept. We have all this technology and scouting boils down to typing messages in chat to compete with all the automatically created clutter.

  • Where?
  • How many?
  • Did they build siege?
  • What’s wall %?
  • Are they still there or did we kill them already?

There’s so much useful information the game could share, if developers even played it.
