If two or three full queue zergs causes 15-20 seconds of skill lag, and crashes 10 people’s computers, maybe Anet should reconsider their queue numbers.

Besides, 70 vs 70 isn’t nearly as fun as 40 vs 40.

I greatly, greatly disagree with this for two reasons. (And your numbers are way off – skill lag I’ve found caps out at around 10 seconds for me in tier 1 action and if you lower your graphics settings, I have found it prevents the crashes and others have done this with similar results)

For my first reason, the queues are already long enough in the tier 1 servers during NA prime and if they were going to reduce the number of people per map, then they’d definitely need to add more maps to avoid a mass exodus. To give a perspective for Sanctum of Rall, there are currently 387 people online in our server’s teamspeak, I don’t even want to imagine how long the queue would be if the maps were shrunk to this size.

Secondly, a well trained group of 30 with a solid class composition is really the most you need to run around with on a map to really be successful. This group of 30 will be more than capable of wiping an uncoordinated 70 man zerg while another group of 30 is off performing somewhere else. Simply put, if a group is running around in a group of 70, they’re not performing as well as they could be.

As a person that’s been queued for 4+ hours I disagree.
What I would like to see is an option to que for any rather than queuing for specific BLs..

We generally try to avoid changing the limits as it greatly impacts the game, but it is one of the things we can manually adjust to help us evaluate our changes when they go live. After the last patch we tried reducing the limit quite a bit more than what has been typical for the last few months to see if we could ease some of the lag issues players experience during some of the larger fights around Stonemist, but changed it back after a few days because we didn’t see a major improvement and it was just too detrimental to the game.

The majority of the WvW population is concentrated in the top 2 tiers, therefore the majority of the WvW population will oppose this idea.

As someone queuing for T2: No. Oh gawd, please, no. I’ll never see the inside of a borderland again if they lower population any further than it is.

Possibly a tad over dramatic, but it’s about a 10% chance during the week that I don’t have to wait for a queue during prime time as is. Very low odds. Don’t even ask about Fridays. I give up after about two hours in queue.

I think this describes exactly why I agree with the OP.

There is no need to run in large groups of 70+ and it is when those two big groups hit that you get skill lag across the entire map. I think this situation has been triggered by ANET’s lack of vision as it pertains to coverage wars, but ultimately it is player driven because we 1) insisting on cramming ourselves into the top 6 severs in an ongoing game of coverage wars and 2) insisting on running in groups that large

I am in T2 like Zoja above, and my guild basically takes reset night off because it is so bad, but I still think the OP’s suggestion is for the best.

Here’s the issue with that. I love my server. It would take some astronomical incentives to make me move. I’d deal with outrageous queue times before ever thinking of leaving TC. The vast majority of players that I’ve run with on TC are likely feel the same way. I’m sure I am not alone in this sentiment. FA and KN in our tier also comes across as loyal to their server. We’ve all worked kitten hard to get to T2, why penalize us for having servers full of WvW fanatics?

I am fully aware that with the recent changes in WvW zerg balls have definitely taken over, and without culling it’s a bit of a disaster. With the reduction in culling I expected some hindrances to crop up, the lag is not shocking. There is also the possibility that not all lag is server side, some of it may be personal equipment. I just updated my system and the issues I used to have completely disappeared. I still get occasional lag, but the last time I noticed any was the 100 man KN/FA zerg on our BL both trying to take Bay. That’s what it took to see skill lag again, and at worst it was about 7 sec on my system. There is no easy way to create a game for every single type of pc out there like there is with consoles, and old equipment gets old. I think we should at least give Anet a little more time to come up with alternatives on their end for the server lag other than killer queue times or breaking up servers for the sake of reducing lag. I’d hate to watch WvW’rs alienated.

I’m a defensive player at heart. So my 2c? Find some way to make sentry/scout a viable way of increasing WXP and you’ll start to see a reduction in zerg size and more defensive types of play increase. Right now defense is barely scratching half of what offensive zergs are in regards to WXP, new and shiny wins out.

if there were some sort of indicator as to which borderland had the fewest people queued for it, what my position in the queue is, or just an average wait time for each individual map.. they could possibly get away with lowering the map caps.

This suggestion imo is rather silly. So You want less people in the wvw maps. Stop going there then and ask all Your friends/allies to do the same. Done – You have a smaller zerg.

Ohh, maybe You wanted less other people to come so You can have fun on Your own? Well tough luck it will not work like that. I’m in not one of the high tier servers – and I think this idea is super silly – becuase people didn’t pay for this game so they can stand in the queues for hours. If it’s always 70 vs 70 where You are then just move to a lover tier server.
