Since Team Chat now works across your server maps, I would love it if we could have Map Chat work across servers for all 3 opponents. It’s so difficult to communicate with your enemy after a great 1 v 1 or GvG. The only option is to join the same party, or do the block/get account ID/whisper. With this, there could be an expanded chance for our different communities to be friendly with each other.

Examples:

• BG says in Map Chat to JQ “Jolly good game chaps!”
• Maguuma says to TC “Great defense on Garri! You sure had us on our toes!”

LMAO like this will happen, instead it will be accusations of hacking, you’ll hear things like gg ez when an opponent kills you etc. etc.

Mind you I would like to be able to message opponents just like in spvp but I’m under no illusions as to what would be said in the chat.

Wasn’t this originally a feature in wvw? But it was removed…for what should be obvious reasons lol. Why would you want opponents to see everything you are typing lol, and imagine the amount of chat you would have to go through yikes. The point of map chat now is to communicate with those on the same map, and team chat with the rest of your server mates on other maps.

The rage whisperers would embrace this idea. I won’t.

Unfortunately the practical effect of this would be a whole lot of trash talk.

I could see a point for “/say” but even that would mostly be abused for more trash talk.

what would be nice is seeing where the message came from something like
[Blue BL] 20-25 baddies on WK outer….
[EBG] map call – baddies on inner keep. Need everyone now

Yes indeed. I was on Maguuma for a longtime before transferring to TC a couple of years back. On my old server, we were the hardest working, most friendly community. There were times when we would have a 3-way in Garri, but then stopped to allow some server v server between the other two. We’d put ourselves on the roof and not interfere, and we’d /cheer for whoever won. Good sportsmanship like that is hard to find.

Emotes are area wide, and that’s our only way to show our love for other servers. If Map Chat would cross servers, then it would be like PvP were we can say “GG” to each other.

GG in the meaning of “Git Gud” is the best you’ll receive these days.

With great power comes great responsibility.

Given the community has no sense of responsibility, they should not have access to any sense of power.

You know those old school scales with the 2 platters? If power is one and responsibility is another, then anything that offsets one but not the other is gonna lead to a tipped scale. This is how trolls are born.

Actually, the idea is called “Map Chat”, as in the ability to chat to everyone on the map, regardless of what server you’re on.

You do realize that there are 3 servers on each map at all times, right?

Oh, you meant across all servers on said map, as a cross server chat…only allow it in OS, nowhere else. Easier to spy if you make it cross server.

Yeah, no. This never works. Trolling becomes the norm immediately, since there’s no sense of community between servers.
