“Understanding is a three edged sword: your side, their side, and the truth.”
“The objective is to win. The goal is to have fun.”
TLDR: Make a “Title” with the name of your server, so you can wear to make people recognize where you from.
A way to help people organize themselves and find a server community (if they want to). By letting everyone pick a title with the name of their Server. It doesn’t fix everything, but at least it lets us find each others and make it easier to find guilds from the same server, and run together with people you’ll be with on every link.
Some notes:
Obviously if they just make 1 of each title and and let anyone pick whatever, there will be some trolls that is going to use this (nothing new).
If they make so that you gain a the title after some trivial matter like gain a WXP level on a server it will narrow down a little bit (and would be a good start for a server specific reward track down the road). It would at least help a bit toward that.
Better would be to have a specific custom title, named something like “server title” (Original huh?), that displays your current server as a title. But that would probably require some more development.
Optionals, ANet could also just hard lock so this title was always enabled for everyone not on your own server in WvW (enemies and linked servers). But I don’t like that route, as it would take away peoples freedom to choose to show the server name or not. Also, could create some more stupid elitism environments internally in a link.
This obviously doesn’t fix everything, like feeling that you contribute to the match, when you capture a camp and it says “another server campured a camp” on your screen, all too easy to go “naah, not OUR fight.”
Edit: For this, would also really love the option to have separate titles for WvW and other modes (If you want to).
This idea sounds great.
So something like:
Invader
Server Name
Yeah, me for example would be something like:
Tarnished Coast Bronze Commander [SIN]
Kaineng
right now. Or something, never remember what rank thingy I am, since I never see it.
We suggested having the server in the tag before the link system even went live (because the coming issue of identity was so blatantly obvious). It would be a miracle if they changed anything now.
I remember that Dawdler, my suggestion was about making it an ordinary Title, similar to the “Mist Threader”, “Yak Slapper”, “I’m Rich You Know” etc.
Largely because this would be much less work for ANet, and might be a reasonable “hot-fix”, to at least help us a bit with server identity crisis. It would also make it optional.
Titles are not even displayed in WvW. Except for your party (squad?) members.
I doubt being able to display server name is enough to restore identity/community/morale on guest servers. The leaderboard rating – the only thing servers were able to compete in WvW – was removed from guest servers with the linking feature. No matter how well guest server plays, the host server probably won’t even thank you.

I don’t follow. Lower-tier servers before the links never cared about the leaderboards, anyways. T6 servers knew they weren’t going to T1 unless they got mass transfers. All that mattered was winning the week. It’s no different now.
Allowing people to see which servers players are on, however, would be quite helpful in the sense that persistent allies/servermates would be able to identify each other and maintain sub-communities for their server’s WvW than just be integrated into the host’s endless ranks to then be dispersed at the end of the link.
A server-specific chat tab for WvW would also go a long way to get people to at least be able to communicate and set up communities if they went looking. As of now, you need to just ask every random person where they’re from, which gets more difficult to do on mid/lower-tier servers that have multiple links.
I spent 4 years on Aurora glade, the day they introduced server links server pride died for me, R.I.P nothing can bring it back now.
