Howdy,
When it comes to Keep/Tower sieges the profession I play lacks the options of many other professions to use a non-siege weapon from a range of 1200 or more.
While I would love to see one of our weapon sets’ range increase to 1200+, perhaps there is another option? I propose adding non-siege weapons that players can only use in WvW. You could purchase these weapons with gold, karma, badges or whatever is appropriate. The weapons would be accessible via your inventory. They would be reusable, so once you acquire it you have it forever.
What’s better is the weapons I have in mind already exist in the game as bundles! Namely the Sniper Rifle and the Charzooka. The Sniper Rifle would specialize in single target damage, while the Charzooka would specialize in AoE damage.
I think this would be a nice addition for players, even those with good range options but perhaps want a change.

This will be a horrible implementations for already shaky class balance.
No, Thief and Guardian are already very powerfull at other things. Filling up your weaknesses but not someone else’s would hurt balance even more.
I play an Engineer, i got good AoE and long-range for siege fights. Im not good at picking off people, im not good at keeping camps contested indefinitly, i cannot reflect projectiles and defend my team from siege attacks.
so maybe we can add a Shield that lets me put down projectile reflections and such with an AoE knockback that also absorbs projectile based attacks.
And a dagger that lets me stealth all over the place and let me take half of someones health off if i hit him with it. And twirl around crippling everyone with stability and reflect projectile.
I think you know where im going with this. Thieves are kitten annoying to fight in the field and guardians are, along with Mesmer, the two professions that already impact WvW waaaaay more then any other profession.

Err, you might want to take a serious re-look at your skills and abilities.
Engineers have access to reflect (multiple sources), stealth (multiple sources) and AoE knockbacks (multiple sources).
Granted, maybe not as good as guardians can reflect or absorb.
And not as good as thieves can stealth. But still, it’s there.

You’ve clearly never played a Scepter Guardian if you think that the 2 skill is in any way a viable ranged attack.

Quite aware of those abilities, but thank you for reminding me.
I don’t think that is enough, especially for game that is trying to push such a variety of options in each profession. Warriors effective at 180 range and 1500? Awesome! Can all professions have that option, please? I don’t think that is an outrageous request.
The weapon bundles I’m proposing would be isolated from profession traits, character stats etc, similar to siege weapons. So, balancing shouldn’t be an issue.
Anyway, please feel free to offer constructive feedback or your own suggestions. However, simply adding ‘Reroll another profession!’ is not a viable option.

You’re a thief. You won’t even render when you come out of stealth, and you’ve got some serious burst DPS potential. Guardians are tanky as- with so much heals they can be a nightmare when stacking toughness/vitality.
You can’t have everything. You sacrifice range to be a melee class. Deal with it bro, or re-roll.

So, because of game rendering bugs and general Thief/Guardian hate, that’s a constructive argument against the suggestion?
Look if you can’t offer a counter suggestion other than ‘re-roll’, then don’t bother replying. You aren’t adding to the discussion…

I agree with the fact that you cannot have it all although i think that using the sniper rifle as some kind of siege weapon would be a nice addition.
a bit like a ballista with no AOE capabilities and easier to destroy.
in the meantime, you can always build a ballista.
I kinda like the suggestion. Not as a range fix for guardians and thieves but as a general WvW idea. As sort of a different aproach why not make it so that a tower/keep lord does conjure ice bow every so often? While the ice bow in itself isn’t the greatest it does provide an aoe and a frozen attack.
that would help for defense. For attackers maybe make the guild supervisor do the same thing? Usually you take a supply camp before hitting a tower/keep and often you have to resupply during a siege. This could even add extra incentive to resupply instead of a small zerg standing around a bunch of incomplete rams.
What do you have against flying ponies?
But seriously, if you don’t think your character is rounded enough in battle, i.o.w can participate in all sorts of battles, then don’t try to do everything.
As thief, stick to what it does best. cloack and stay in a camp for hours and gank 1-4 people trying to cap it. Hell I’m surpirised anet didn’t give the thief lasers yet.
If you want to defend well, don’t play thief go for a ranger or something.
iow. If a character/profession gets more rounded and rounded, we might aswell all roll thief/mesmer and be done with professions entirely.

Your idea is bad. Give every class this ,, non-siege,, weapon and you can allready throw away whole ranger class, becouse this is the only thing that they excel at… defending keeps with longbow.
Althought i am up for adding couple of more SIEGE weapons into WvW
I play a Thief and a Guardian. There is no reason to modify Thief ranged at all. Short Bow is a very effective weapon when used correctly.
I believe all that should be done for the Guardian is to show a little love to Scepter to make it at least worth carrying around. I want to point out that by little, I literally mean very little love. I don’t want or expect the guardian to ever compete in ranged (again that is LOL). It used to be OP, now it’s a bit nerfed, if they simply did a little bit of stroking to the scepter for guardian both classes would be fine.
As for the rendering issues, don’t hate on thief’s because of the culling issues with the game. They are a fairly balanced class when culling isn’t a factor.
Hell, i think they should really show some love to Necro’s if anything.

As far as guardians I mean could they want? the sceptre is really good if not a 8k hitter and used to harass. I personally wouldnt mind if they were given the rifle though. Maybe w/o KS

Please don’t put words in my mouth. I never ever said that. Shortbow does only have one 1200 range attack. Fact. And sorry, no I don’t think that’s enough.
Thieves are great. Of course there’re many things they can do. But they can’t grab a six pack and some brats, sit a lawn chair up on the keep wall, and pew pew very well. I don’t want to reroll or have an alt just to do that.

I’m only trying to suggest an option that would give professions some more WvW options, that would be limited to that activity, and therefore not affect the balance in the rest of the game. Make them temporary! Make them only available through supply! All possibly good suggestions! Just don’t leave it as… ‘Reroll!’

Perhaps there is an elementalist who feels too squishy when trying to fight melee in light armor, let them wear heavy. Maybe there is an warrior who is tried of being visible, let them use stealth.
