Hey guys, I’m new to the forums but i had to say this. (If you don’t want to read the backstory just skip to the suggestion)
I’ve been playing GW2 since the beta and i can easily say it is one of the best MMOs to date. It is beautifully designed, the music is fantastic, and the combat is exceptional.
However, when i first started playing this game, the Obsidian Sanctum was possibly one of my favorite places of all time. An area where you can do a jumping puzzle and fight simultaneously?? There are even traps to sabotage your enemies that are trying to reach the end! Now when the game launched and the Obsidian Sanctum was new, everybody went there all the time. There were people duelling near the spawn (this was before the ingenious idea to add the arena for that purpose). The place was full of life(and death) and i could never get bored. I spent a vast majority of my time in this area once i hit 80.
Then something terrible happened. I’m not sure if i can correlate these two things together but around the release of the achievement point chests, people stopped coming to the sanctum! It was terrible. My once favorite past time was reduced to a barren wasteland. People still duel there and hold Guild vs Guild fights in the arena, but it just isn’t the same as it once was. The feeling of being ambushed mid jump or succesfully ganking someone from the shadows(#thieflife) was absolutely thrilling. It wasn’t just a cluster of zergs like in WvW but rather small and more interesting fights. You could use your surroundings to your advantage(it’s loaded with traps and cliffs) and feel a sense of accomplishment when you won.
Now I look back on those golden days of the Obsidian Sanctum and wish I could go back. I still keep in touch with old friends from the OS but everytime i visit the sanctum it’s just a reminder of what it once was.
Now my [Suggestion]:
I realized that whenever rewards or achievement points were placed in or towards the Obsidian Sanctum, more people started going there. I was excited while it lasted! But alas, once the achievement point was achieved people once again stopped returning.
There is only one chest at the end of this jumping puzzle, but perhaps a better reward(s) can be placed in or towards the end of the jumping puzzle. This way it is a nice reward for the players willing to put their lives on the line to reach it.
Or if this isn’t possible, maybe more maps of a similar sort could be created? Structured PvP is great but it doesn’t have the same feel. It is a game created to fit a very aggressive or very defensive play style to capture and hold points. I want to be able to fight at my leisure! WvW is fun when you roam in small havoc teams, but even then the only goal is to save your world by capturing areas, which is still far more successful by zerging and large numbers. Over time this, too, gets tiring.
I want a place to be able to enjoy with my friends, something like the old obsidian sanctum!
For the PVErs out there that i’m sure wouldn’t approve of this idea, keep in mind that the obsidian sanctum is structured around people who enjoy killing other players(hence the traps CLEARLY designed to kill people jumping the puzzle)!
