Hey ANet WvW team.

It would be a really good quality of life change to be able to hide your WvW rank (Invader could be the default display just as it was before ranks were introduced)

Another suggestion would be to be able to change it to a rank you have already unlocked. I.e any rank below your current one

Anyway, just a quality of life change I think most would enjoy.

Heh, in my mind I see a bunch of Diamond Legends disguised as Recruits, abolutely stomping roamers.

What exactly would be the purpose of this feature anyway? I kind of get the idea that low-rank players would want to hide theirs in a more experienced group of players to avoid being seen as a newbie, but honestly no one even cares (and if they do, the problem is with them, not you). It’s not like WvW rank is anything to boast about; you pretty much learn everything there is about WvW by the time you hit rank 100, so it’s not really a skill measurement or define how “good” a player you are.

Then, selecting any rank below your actual one? What? Why?

Sound to me like another of these “Stop Pin Sniping me” threads.

Is a interesting idea. I got my pvp plat rank a day ago, after qualifying 10 games. I noticed that you can hide the pvp rank. If pvp can do it, I am sure wvw can do it.

Yes, this suggestion came about as a means to counter pin snipe.

Could people try to hide their rank so they can “stomp roamers”. Maybe. If people think low level ranks are easy picks than they are not doing it right, as alt accounts would also pose the same threat. I treat every duel/engage while roaming with the mindset that they are just as skilled as me.

While it would not be a priority high on the list of changes/balance WvW needs, I can see no real negative consequences to it either.

I posted 2 different ideas simply because they both came to mind. The second can be redundant and the first would be the one I recommend but I figured both could be possibilities hence posting them.

Better yet, give an option to be anonymous that cuts both ways. If you choose to disguise your rank and run as simply ____ Server Invader, all enemy players would be anonymous too and appear as _ Server Invader to you. Anyone who wants to advertise their rank would still have the option, but only to those who also want to advertise. It just makes sense, really. How can you tell someone’s rank just by looking at them. It’s not like we wear uniforms with ranks sewn on our collars.

As an added bonus, not showing rank should improve lag a little. I recall elder scrolls online did not feature enemy nameplates at launch as a way to improve lag. After all, its just another piece of information that needs to be processed.

It would barely address lag, if it did at all.

Can’t say, conceptually, why one should have a label indicating level of advancement in WvW. Why should enemies be able to tell at a glance?

Yeah? I really don’t remember… I know that everyone was labelled simply as invader before and no one really complained when the change came.

It’s Bad IDEA

When I’m roaming and come across another roamer (or group of roamers), I consider 3 things before initiating a fight:

• the class I’m playing
• the class(es) they are playing
• what their ranks are

If I have a class advantage I’ll always engage. If I have a class disadvantage but they’re sufficiently low rank I will engage for the practice or free kill.

Seeing people’s rank is helpful to me, I’m of mixed feelings whether or not that’s a good thing.

I have a high rank for being an almost full time roamer and sadly I typically have to avoid glassy builds. This is mainly because a lot of players are rank hunters and will target the highest rank regardless of other circumstance.

However, the visible rank makes the game more interesting. The added dimension of being a trophy for many is both an honor and a burden that in the end adds in extra fun for both sides… even when I am griping about getting sniped on Discord.

OMG, imagine the humiliation of attacking someone because you thought they would be an easy kill and then ending up LOSING!

I find this humorous.

Imagine going roaming and you run into an Invader aka “look at that level 1 newbie let’s gank him” and it turns out to be a highly experienced roamer…

Pin sniping and “kill the highest rank” are hurting our leaders who are now running tagless more and more – harming the WvW rank and file.

I welcome hiding rank in WvW. One small change would help us all.
